  1. I shifted my dearly-loved Walkabout because I wanted a little more headroom and clearer mids - the Handbox R-400 is, IMO, a Walkabout Plus. The WB-100 adds a different dimension. The Walkabout / R-400 is close, but there's nothing like a valve power stage.
  2. The Handbox WB-100 sounds right up your alley. You're welcome.
  3. If you're reading this, Paul... don't give up the day job.
  4. It's not really a P thing, I don't think. Basses just have a natural variance.
  5. ..and tell Mark to get on Facebook.
  6. Be my guest, @knicknack.
  7. ...it’s worth noting that all flats sound completely different new, compared to when broken in.
  8. I've never tried the Fenders, but I find them to be very different to Chromes.
  9. Trick is a wonderful record. The 5.1 mix is marvellous.. Of course the quality of 70s recordings varies, but some of the greatest, most organic-sounding records were made during that time. I'm not sure I would put 'today's standards' up on a pedestal.
  10. NP's lyrics have never been great...
  11. FWIW, here's my oval USA UL's..
  12. Ah, I see. Not quite: https://www.bestbassgear.com/ebass/gear/hardware/tuner/a-38-or-12-tuner.html
  13. Usually this Eurofest - Handbox WB-100 tube head, TKS 212 cab, Limelight '67 relic, Maruszczyk Jake PH custom. ..and sometimes the Handbox R-400. And sometimes the TKS 112. Love it all...
  14. Hmm.. they look like Ultralites, but as far as I'm aware, they've always had the logo embossed on the housing.. even the licensed version...? Unless they didn't back in the day?
  15. You can do some OK 'on the fly and on the cheap' recordings with a couple of well-placed Zoom recorders, and some edits to face more cameras. The effect can be kinda grungy, but it gets the job done. Here's a couple I made: ..of course these are no replacement for a good pro shoot.
  16. Fair point. Anderson / Howe / Squire / White / Wakeman for me. That's not to belittle the contributions of the others in any way. (Hey, I even like Drama.)
  17. They're lovely. They're what Lakland flats used to be. How much are you paying?
  18. It is, but it only has three years to cover in two hours. EC's done poos that took longer then three years.
  19. As a very recent Yes convert, I really wish I'd seen the classic line-up*. *Irrelevant comment I know, but I just feel like I had to say it
  20. He's not done anything decent since 'Take My Breath Away'.
  21. No subs. Just very good tops.
  22. Did a dep last night with a power trio - the drummer was also a dep, who I'd never met before. I was slightly nervous 'cos it was a big-ish room, the band are loud, and everything but the bass was through the PA. I only had a 120w valve head, so I turned it up and hoped for the best. It was fine. Lots of dodgy moments, but we carried it off...
  23. I've finally found the upper limits of the WB-100 😄 I depped with a power trio last night (the drummer was a dep too - never met him before). It was post-match in a fairly big pub room. The bandleader likes it LOUD. Like, really loud. Everything goes through the PA... apart from the bass. Gulp. So, I threw caution to the wind, maxxed out the output as usual, drove the input much harder than I normally would, Clean? Not quite. Playing lightly on the quite bits.. yes. As soon as I dug in, I was rewarded with a responsive, creamy grind. Great fun for that kind of stuff. I can't imagine playing at that volume without a PA too often, mind. Glad I had my earplugs... Here's a clip - roundwounds, tone off completely, and can still hear those mids.. I'll post a clip later of a tune with a pick, and the bright switch on. It's hilarious in its clarity.
  24. Np problem! This is just a recording from the room with a Zoom Q4n.
  25. I've no experience with the Ashdown, so I can't comment. I can say the HB isn't inherently drivey, unless you want it to be. Of course it would be unavoidable at very high volumes, but I always seem to have the headroom to keep it clean.
