I've worked with kids for several years and find them great once you make the connection and get under the veneer to the person beneath. Once the point is explained to them in a way that isn't 'adult looking down on child' then I believe most will respond well.

I was in Promenade Music in Morecambe again today and to be honest the guys in there couldn't be more helpful. I do fully understand where you're coming from Pete and sympathise. It gives me two distinct positions that I like rather than having to think about a broader range of tonal possibilities The pickguard is drilled for a finger rest in accordance with 62 spec and I'm going to fit an ebony one if only to cover up the holes.

Does the LH1000 still have jack outputs only, like the LH500?
