1. All the best with the sale. Watching with interest. Beautiful basses.
2. Nice one Alan looking forward to seeing that in the Fleish. Is it the one from up North? Peter
3.
That is simply stunning! But I'm not sure I can justify another striped ebony singlecut . You'll regret it if you sell it!!
+1, you can always get another Ray but the ACG is unique. I'm playing my Fender the most at the moment mainly because it's new and a bit of a novelty. I'll come back to the Harlot eventually
4. I loved my rack. Sold it yesterday and bought a RH450 Rebelhead

Gadge

I had the pleasure of meeting Gadge today and as usual where did the time go ? Good to see another guitarist straying to the dark side! It may be the start of a whole new life. I hope that the LMII does all that you need Roger, it's served me well. Thanks for the coffee and I hope to meet up agin some time. GAS is of course incurable Peter
6.
I've been on the receiving end of your parcels. Took an eight hour shift to open the last one... If Carlsberg packed basses they'd be called GreenKing.
7.
I had the same colour flea bass as that till last week Damn you Rowbee for buying it off me! I havent read the thread sorry. But has anyone mentioned Jaco yet?
He would be my 1st choice, dusting the stage with baby talc to get his moves working
8.
I just took delivery of a Precision today from someone on the forum, who just stuck a shipping label to the case rather than bother himself to wrap or box it. It arrived split, and since there seems to be no way to lock it whatever mechanism was there to do so has presumably broken off, so perhaps the cases are not so sturdy as they first appear. I'm pretty sure a hiscox would have survived the journey.
Personally I'd never send ANY hard case through any postal system unless it was protected in some way, usually in a cardboard box of some sort.
9. It's probably only me, but being ex-Navy and such probably helps. To 'anchor or not to anchor' shortly after a thread asking 'to port or not to port' kinda tickled me no end. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=57799&hl= Think of the morale, port every time Seriously though, I'd say anchor and float down the strings, a good technique to learn early on methinks.
10. My lovely 09 Fender is an 09 American Vintage P (62 RI) and as such has the 'low mass' bent tin bridge (as well as vintage reverse tuners and a nitro cellulose finish). It sounds unbelievably good and has been rated 'best P ever' by none less than our Homer. I'm in no hurry to change to a higher mass bridge So it's not just the high mass bridge that makes them such an improvement. Mind at over £1700 MRP it should be good.
11. I did the re-wire with my previous one and as you say it really does work. It's nice to have the passive tone control of the VTC when switched to the passive mode though. I also prefer the blend to two volumes.
12. I've said before that the one bass that I miss more than just about any other is the Fender MM IV that I sold to a lad at school about 3 or 4 years ago. Having recently acquired a mint example at a good price and having bought a Sadowsky onboard pre with VTC from Chris (Beedster) the way ahead became clear. The MM pre isn't noted for it's desirability and common upgrades are the Marcus Retro in the UK and across the pond, the Sadowsky pre. I did the swap yesterday and despite a fair bit of soldering it worked straight away sounded great. The only minor issue was that the blend worked in reverse. I decided to sort this, an easy swap of two wires on a pot. I brought the bass to the soldering table and plugged the lead in while it was still disassembled to check it out. Sadly I had a really bad buzzing coming from the bass that changed when I touched the pots. I then spent nearly two hours taking it apart, putting it together, checking all my connections, double checking them, continuity testing, putting in extra ground wires etc. The in desperation I turned off my Maplin adjustable temperature soldering iron. Problem solved Bass sounds great too, very pleased with the upgrade.
13. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Alembic-Bass-Triple-...id=p3286.c0.m14 Nice but I've seen Alembics I preferred. SC for example.
14. Bump with price dropped to £650. New this lot would cost over £1k and it's pretty mint. Sounds good too, you can come and try it, might even throw in a Yorkshire Curd Tart and a cup of coffee.
15.
there's that one nasty thing there...
Nothing is good or bad only thinking that makes it so
16. If the wood is suitable for a fretless bass as either ebony or wenge should be there's two ways of looking at it. It's either a flaw or a feature, personally I'd go for the latter. Peter
17. My advice would be to phone him. 100% better than an email especially when emails aren't doing the job for you in terms of communicating with the guy.
18. Carol Kaye told me she was the best!
19. And I'm open to offers. I've already declined a banana skin and two slightly used pontefract cakes
20. He's a good bass player no doubt but arguing about something so subjective seems like a short cut to a headache for me
21.
But you had it on here at £350 and sold it on ebay for £290, perhaps that's not why you are hitting the buyers on here. Just a thought.
Maybe it sold on eBay for a very low price. Doesn't mean to say that NottsWarwick was trying to rip BCers off.
22. On the subject of some LaBella flats and not using them through body it's because the sharper break angles the string is subject to can cause the outer winding to crimp and the huge leverage produced can break the string. I'd not bother with thru body stringing personally, having tried it in the past. I no longer have the option on any of mine anyway and don't miss it.
