1. I would recommend trying before buying. I know that I was totally struck by how good this is put together and sounds but I'm no Fender connoisseur. Alan reckons it's the best P he's heard and others say that 08/09 Fenders are as good as any made, ever. I've just done my 1st gig (ever) with it through a LMII, 2 x Aggire DB112's and an MXR M-80 D.I. and several bass players commented on how good the tone was. Peter
2. I'm hopefully going and will say hello. Peter
3. You know when the thought of building a bass comes to mind it's always the neck that I wonder about, how to achieve a perfect profile lengthwise? Must be quite a skill methinks to get it right.
4.
I'm there. And you know what they say about Northern birds......
Jeez, a couple of bits of that were pretty grim. That eye bit in particular (where's the vomit smiley when you need one) Just in case you Southerners are wondering - that's a load of bollocks Essex boy gone bad.
5. If a 4 string will do you Al you have a pick of mine Peter
6.
Chippin' in here as that beauty was built for me. I miss looking at it, for sure. I asked Jon to built a bass that had that "solo bass Marcus Miller sparkly highs and piano sound bass strings" type sound to compliment and contrast with the 5 string passive Precision he built for me before. Well he really achieved that but I found I'd not really thought about my needs and abilities enough. I too was knob twiddling endlessly during the few gigs I played it on simply trying to make it sound like my other Shuker. That's really why I decided not to keep it. I just don't play the kind of gigs where it would be able to shine. It just needed to get out there and get some exercise and get infused with some gig vibes. It will improve with age and playing, I am sure. As it is it can do a million tones and sounds great if your band leaves you sonic space to work in. I am sure Jon can help achieve a more punchy tone as it's basically the tone woods of a JJB Shuker P bass so a different pickup set will probably make a large difference. Stick with it Al.
I'm sure Alan that the tone you want is in there and that Jon will be able to extract it whatever it takes
7. Does a LMII float your boat? I just checked and realise that it's 600W into 2 ohms. Sadly no good to me at the moment. Peter
8. A very enjoyable night last night guys. Two lovely basses the Shuker and the Kinal. I'm glad it wasn't just me with loving the retro passive AV 62 RI and the Maruszczck Elwood, I thought I was going bonkers
9. I dragged the guys down the pub to the jam night last night and we did 3 numbers. It went down well and the audience were all under 20 Addictive stuff Saturday now holds fewer fears which was the idea.
10. That looks very nice indeed. Is it a neck thru or a bolt on? Peter
11. Nice set, I'm particularly liking the vintage white 62 RI
12. EBS Microbass II is a perfect tool for this.
13. I saw a Lace Helix in the Bass Merchant.
14. I've never heard of a truss rod 'slipping' like this. You could try a thin card shim between the neck and the bass in the neck pocket, tucked towards the bridge end of the pocket. It might give the trussrod a hand? It's what I'd do anyway and may be worth a try before more drastic repair action is taken. Peter
15. Nice mellow understated fretless going on there, I enjoyed it. Can't you get that bass a bit higher up, like a violin?
16. 5 days to go, practice Mon, Tue, Thur and Fri, the rhythm guitarist's wrist is out of plaster following his bike crash, set list sorted: Black Magic Woman - Santana version Come up and see me The Passenger Behind Blue Eyes Apache Moving On Old Habits Die Hard Smoke on the Water Sunshine of Your Love Despite mucking about with a bass for about 13 years I should be losing my virginity about 2pm on Saturday, anyone free near Penrith it's at Motherby in someone's garden - The Motherby Fest, 2pm 3 bands for a fiver Oh and we have a name: 'Vanarchy' Peter
17.
Hi all, Just back from a wet and windy week-long sailing regatta, and feeling my age. BassBunny is absolutely right. It was Greene-Mann not Greenking who posted the "Beginners bass wanted" ad to which I responded a few weeks ago. My apologies to everybody for the unintended confusion. Doooh.
By way of a bump! Not a problem, I kinda half guessed it was the other Green Do you sail Solo's too? Peter - ex Enterprise racer
18. Have a look on Thomann, they have a wide variety at a range of prices. http://www.thomann.de/gb/index.html
19. Texas is a long way to do a pick up
20.
I really must learn how to embed video...
+1
21. I've only one thing to say: F'kinal' Absolutely stunning.
22.
TI flats should cope with through body stringing due to the slight gap between the windings.
Agreed they are supposed to but the only string failure I've ever had has been flats thru body and if I remember correctly (not guaranteed ) they were TI's.
23.
Second set I've had that have snapped, and not even when I was attacking them bigtime. Off to buy some D'Addarios tomorrow, will try flats and see if they tame my Ibanez. On the subject of my Ibanez SRX400 I am finding that although the bridge looks rock solid where the strings go through the metal is getting quite gnarled up. Strings can pop out if tuner slackened. Oh and while I'm at it anyone noticed the tuner collars loosen over the months? Found a loose one on my Ibanez and a couple slack on my Spear (whose R has fallen off as predicted). Annoying night for my two basses...
Are we talking flats here? Through body stringing?
24.
Then I shall defend myself If someone says "will you post to Spain" and the seller says "yes" and that person does not buy it then what is the point of asking? "Do you post to Spain" "Yes, I do" "Then I refuse to buy your product"
Well, I must be different then. I might be considering buying something, have a question which is answered in the positive which makes me think some more, can I afford it? No? The wife doesn't approve or oops the car needs a service..... It happens on BC sales all the time too, in fact some people even say 'I'll have it' and then change their mind. Including me once
25.
Nope. They're waiting for more information, photos of the neck pockets, etc. I know this, because I'm one of those 'idiots'.
I did think that statement about the 'Idiots' was pretty over the top. All the questions and answers served to illustrate the honesty of the seller too imo.
