Just done a great deal with Howard. The perfect deal is when both parties leave the deal feeling satisfied. Thats just what's happened. Nice bloke, good company and didn't leave ANY coffee !!! A delight to deal with and would do so again in a moment. Stewart

LOST YOUR CHANCE (TRADED) Overwater Perception Deluxe Plus 5
bassbluestew replied to thepurpleblob's topic in Basses For Sale
Why oh Why oh Why don't you like natural Rays !!!!!! Mines is a corker although it nat, its a high gloss finish - and the red tort scratchplate is dynamiteeeeeeeeeeeeeee, and it's local ( still have the black scratchplate too of course ). Would be tempted to throw in a wee sweetener too if you fancied ?? S -
Many years back I played in a band called Big Vern 'n' the Shootahs who made a lot of effort and paid a lot of dosh to have cool suits handmade - as there was 9 of us at the time having suits made was a considerable outlay. So we got two each, as you do. Home strip, and away kit !! Anyway, I no longer play with them, but still have the suits - one of which I wear on stage to this day !! It's black with oversized white pinstripes with black and white tartan sleeves. I wear a black shirt with either a red, white or black tie ( I often look at the gig and see if theres a colour theme and try to match a tie to it - always goes down really well with the client ! ) and have a pair of black and white Zebra skin brothel creepers. Oh and shades and a hat. Sometimes I feel a little overdressed but I ALWAYS get complements and very, very often people ask to have their photo taken with me which is kinda cool too !! I'm 6ft 1 and 18 stone so I'm hard to miss !! The rest of the band tend to wear variations on a black theme, so it works well. ! There you go, I guess what I'm saying is it's worth making the effort. Trace Elliot V-Type 600 Valve/MOSFET Rig
bassbluestew replied to jonnyfastfingers's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
Why is this thread being allowed. Unless I'm missing something here, Bankai made a legitimate offer to purchase at the OPs asking price which has been ignored by the OP as he wants more on ebay??? Not a good way to do business. I'd be really ticked off if I made an offer to buy at asking price and it was ignored. Glad I didnt want this rig. FWIW also you cant compare this head to the Ampeg SVT3 pro, its a different animal. Have also found flightcases don't always add value. Some folks just don't want them and you never get what they are worth. Better sold sepreately, and I don't think the sellers prices would be affected. S -

I've just read this and actually laughed out loud many many times. I did my first gig so long ago I can't remember..............I was 12 ( 47 now ), played guitar for a couple of gigs then the band decided it needed a bass player. As I was the youngest by a long way, I was told either learn bass or we replace you with a bass player. I had no idea what a bass was, but got one and gigged with it that night. I knew where C was so could work out the triads, but played with a capo on 2nd fret when we played a song in D ..............I WAS only 12, give me break here, and had owned a bass for less than 10 hours before I stepped on stage. This was a well payed cllub band btw..............well, well payed for a 12 year old anyway. £20 a gig back in 1974. A fortune. Sorry I'm rambling. Jolly well done to HT, for doing the gig and potentially bagging a dep job too. I love playing bass...... Stewart

I've owned both and still own two Ray's - no G&L's. I loved the G&L and only parted with it to fund my dream 77 Ray. Description of a Pbass on steriods is EXTREMELY accurate. Not a Ray on steriods as some folks would have you believe. As has been said, it depends what you're after. If you love the Ray sound, then that's it. Problem solved. However if you are looking for something else ( I had TI Jazz flats on my USA L2500 and it was the comfiest bass I have played and nailed the Motown Pbass sound ) then go for the G&L. Never had a quality issue, maybe I was lucky. If you'll forgive the analogy it's like the VW Golf advert on telly just now. If you want a golf buy a golf, not something that kinda looks, sounds, feels like a golf. Good luck, take your time, follow your heart ( and your ears - don't just buy a Ray because everyone so far, me included, loves them ) S

I think everyone should own a USA G&L at one point, even just to try it. Very, very underestimated basses. Tonal range, playability, and what owners call the OMG switch........it's like a turbo button. These were Leo's last basses after all, and all that knowledge didn't go to waste. Unfortunately I had to sell mine a while back to get get my ultimate dream bass ( a 77 Ray funnily enough ), but it was a TOUGH call and I have been keepign a beady eye open for the right one at the right price. In a straight choice between MM and Warwick...................sorry to our German chums who make some stunning basses like the deluxe custome shop model for sale on here, but ifor work-a-day its MM every time. Gets the job done !! S

I gotta give a HUGE +1 to the SKB Bass Safe mentioned at the beginning. I've done 200 plus flights - mostly Ryan Air and Sleazy Jet within Europe but have also flown into and out of Moscow a few times, the SKB was/is the mutts !!! What they also offer is a lifetime insurance that if your instrument is damaged whilst in transit in one of these they will either replace or give you $1500 towards repairs. There are probably all sorts of horrible legal loopholes that they can employ to never actually pay out, but its a hell of a claim !!! S

Hmmmm! am I just suspicious by nature?
bassbluestew replied to loudandclear's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
On the subject of the neck.............from what can be seen of it, it looks VERY like the neck on my 77 Ray . If the pick up is original, could the control panel / pots be original ?? If so, well worth £200, in fact a positive steal, and wacking into a nice Warmoth body !!! S
