1. I've never played a musicman that hasn't had a dead spot on the neck somewhere - I've owned a sterling and a stingray and they were OK but nothing to shout about, I don't like the playability, the two screws in the pickup don't allow you to anchor your thumb!! I prefer the musicman tone to a jazz, even when fretless but I love a p bass with a 60's style neck HOWEVER although aesthetically unpleasing it does need a j pickup if you can't afford two basses for versatility. G&L's are great but the neck is too chunky for me, both wide and deep and I can never decide on the tone - a P or J pickup just nails what you want. ...sack all 3 off and get a Marleaux, flawless basses
2. Hmm an Alembic I can afford built in the year of my birth...
3. That is beautiful indeed, it's kinda scary i'm working, when i was a student I just used to snoop... now I end up checking my account
4. You shoulda have played the piece on a borrowed Sandberg 5 string. I think the Yamaha sounds nicer too! +1
5. I'll wrestle you for it
6.
this thread needs
Nothing in this picture is nice
7. I played one locally, twas heavy but 24 frets on a 34" scale made for easy playing. It's more articulate than a stingray for sure and the neck finish is fine but your main issues are - that it's not that comfortable when sitting down and (again!) it's heavy but so are all six strings - i've played heavier.
8.
Looks like a lady pleasure station.
Exactly, look at the back of it!! ultra modern piece o shoite!! A zimmer frame covered in angel delight
9. This is worse... 10. I think i've missed the story behind this thread
11.
apparently he's pretty nearly deaf
Perfect setup for me to knock Hartke Amplification but I shant lol
12. Ahh that's a shame, he had a back up bass player who was playing circles around him on a fender jazz - i just assumed he had arthritis or something?? His singing was on the money but not a lot else, even the backup band was mediocre apart from the drummer who was the most entertaining part of it!! I only paid £25 for the actual gig, £30 for the handsigned painting and £20 for the T shirt. Still my favourite player but obviously past it
13. ...And I wasn't impressed. It took 3 songs into the gig before they got the sound check corrected, the opening artist was boring and Jack looked like he was just going through the motions - not to mention his 3 minute long solo - it was a repetitive ramble that went nowhere and was like me doing a warm up exercise (mis-fingered chord shapes on a fretless is a massive no no. I'm a massive Jack Bruce fan, his songs were the first I learnt on bass and his recorded improvisation is second to none (except maybe Jaco). I purchased one of 5 handsigned paintings and a T shirt but couldn't help leaving the gig feeling disappointed and a lil depressed, I haven't been that let down since I saw Whitesnake. As rule I always assume the more experienced artists to put on a better show but I guess not... Anyone else been to see him on this tour???
14.
Probably not listening loud enough.
This ^^
15. I'm sure Steve Harris of Iron Maiden played one too - remember looking for one as my first bass lol - white and maple it was too, I wanted a black newcastle utd pickguard for it...ah to be 15 again
16. Ha! I was staring at the pic for about 5 mins thinking - why has it only got one pickup?? Only been half a year since I played a bass and i'm beginning to forget what they look like
17. Ah I'd be kitted out for life with the dirty blonde & bleached blonde - would just want a genz benz or TC electronic rig to compliment them
18.
Nope. Usually end up thinking 'I can't believe you lot are stupid enough to pay us to come and play songs you already heard 10000000000000000 times before, that are piss easy to play and let us come back every other month and pay us to play the same set again!'
THIS!!! ^^^
19. What would you prefer? 2 high quality guitars/basses and a good quality low wattage amp OR 1 high quality guitar/bass, a good quality low wattage amp and a custom high wattage amp ???
20. Further to this!! All the guitar techs I know who fix up 100's of guitars a year always seem to have a Tele as their own personal guitar...coincidence??
21. Yeah these are lovely, I'm the same and prefer the old reissues but the modifications/upgrades Fender have added over the years make the things a damn sight easier to play!! Haha. I reckon this one will grow on you, i've always been a strat/ES 335 fan and near hated the tele for both looks and sound but after you own one for a couple o months you get attached to it and can't put it down...it's surreal mine's beckoning me now...
22. Love that guitar with the naughts and crosses on the back, just looks cushy
