I'll be going down to Manchester for bass day again, leaving Edinburgh around 7am on the sunday and coming back late.(I don't usuall leave until the Jannie throws us out). I could take another 2 in my car for a share in the petrol if anyone is interested. All you have to do is be interesting company or sleep all the way http://basschat.co.uk/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif First come first served - if you're interested reply here or drop me a text /call on 07717 700149 or mail me at graeme_jackson 'at' bankofscotland.co.uk If you've not been before it's a really good day out. Just make sure you get your ticket in advance.

I'll be coming down from edinburgh as usual. Look out for a 'slightly' fat bloke and a tall blind american. could bring a couple more edinburgh layers too as I have spare seats. Will start a new thread though.
I have been in bands for many years but never done backing vocals , but now i want to have a stab at it Has anyone any tips on playing and singing at the same time Help would be appreciated
learn the bassline seperately to learning the lyrics. Make sure you a very comfortable playing the line without needing to look at your fingers all the time. The less you have to think while playing, the easier singing will become. Also, try to start off on songs where the bass isn't too busy in the chorus.

Who on Basschat has the most expensive bass?
jacko replied to Jonny Walker's topic in General Discussion
the combned purchase price of my 3 alembics was over £11000, the MK costing around 6. The custom I have in mind for my 50th birthday would cost around £15 but that needs senior management approval -
Ashsown is a bit like marmite. Lots of people like them, lots of people don't. I fall into the latter camp too fr pretty much the same reasons you've given.

I've played Alembics exclusively for the last 12 years and I've not yet found another bass that comes close to the versatility mine have. I suspect, if the spoiler sounded lifeless, the strings were dead (happens even with new ones). With a decent set of strings, they come alive in the right hands.
La Bella Deep Talkin Flats are about as stiff a string as you'l ever play.
i don't agree with this statement at all. I have deep talking flats on my kelly and they're like butter. They even make the DR roundwounds on my normal basses seem tight (and they're not). Rotosound flats on the other hand felt like cheesewire in comparison.

I almost forgot the one 70's bass player that had me glued to the telly whenever top of the pops was on. Drove the music along at a thumping pace and ROCKED!!! Looked fantastic in her leather jumpsuit too. - Suzi Quattro of course (and still rocking).

Number one has to be Chris Squire without whom I'd probably still be playing the clarinet. Second is Dennis Dunaway - superbly melodic player and it's good to see he's been mentioned on several earlier posts. Number three - John Entwistle. i spent many lonely nights in my room learning his lines. Four - Jaco - I was blown away by his playing, especially his fretless work - inspired me to build my first fretless. Fifth is Stanley clark. i absolutely love his playing . A very subjective list and I've had to leave out a great many of my favourite bassists - 5 is not enough. I mean, how can I leave out the likes of Percy Jones, John Giblin, John paul Jones, Phil lynott, Roger Glover, Tom Hamilton, kasim Sultan and even Micheal Anthony. Seems like all my favourite bands of the 70's had superb bass players, alot of them concentrating on holding down the bottom end but an equal number pushing the boundaries.

Guitar shows are always the same. i was at the London Guitar show last year and it was pretty crap for Bassists - a room had been set aside but they only had a markbass rig that nigel clutterbuck was hogging. I'd have given it a miss if I hadn't been down there for Stanley's gig anyway. Go to bass day in manchester instead. It's a brilliant day out (and they're not paying me to say that).
The Bass Love is in Manchester on the 9th of November 2008... this is when we're doing another Bass Day UK. It's all still early days, so I can't say much about it so far, other than the date and location. Will we see you there then?
You'll certainly see me there. Nov 9th now etched in blood.
Hi Jacko, the cabs are 8 ohms, each so that gives the amp a 4 ohm load to power.I've tried running the amp in stereo, so that each cab gets 500w each but to my ears it sounds more distorted and makes the amp go into clipping a lot sooner. If anyone has a more effective way I can hook it all up then get in touch but I know Kev(6stringbassist)run the amp and cabs like this when they used to belong to him and I don't think he had any problems. Cheers Steve.
Just had a look at the crown manual. The Menu option to set bridge mode looks alot easier than flicking dipswitches on the back of the qsc. Wiring is the same though - either a 1+ 2+ speakon or +/_ banana plugs from the centre binding posts.
I run mine out of channel one into my first cab, then daisy chained into the second cab, this is in bridge mode at 4 ohms and gives me 1400w, ie loads of headroom.
Are you sure that's bridged? Sounds more like you're running 2 cabs in parallel presenting the amp with a 2 ohm load. With the QSC, you need a 'special' 1+/2+ speakon cable (and a switch thrown)
+1 for QSC. I ran a QSC PLX1602 bridged into a UL310 for a year without problem. It was excellent.
and another. I'm running a plx 2402. 700watts/channel into 4 ohms. 2400 into a 4ohm bridged load. just about enough to keep up with my rhythm guitarists 15w orange tiny terror
Hi guys, This is my first post on here, but wondered if anyone could give me some advice/info... I have a couple of week tour coming up soon and am trying to throw together a decent rig on a (real) tight budget! I have managed to grab a Warwick Profet 5.1 for 199 ex-demo. Going for a Warwick 611 and was looking at chucking a Behringer rack tuner in for good measure (my current tuner isn't brilliant). I play an Ibanex SRX505 5 string mainly, so need the 5th string tuning ability. What I wanted to know about the Behringer tuner is that a lot of people have said they have problems with lag/delay tuning the low B - is this just when using the tuner in "standard mode"? As far as I can see, it has a bass mode and transpose (we tune to dropped C) - do these make any difference, and is the delay really that bad? Also, anyone have any tips on the best way to connect this to the amp? Is it best to run the signal direct into the tuner and run that signal to the amp, or run the bass input into the amp and use the tuner output to the tuner for muted tuning? Thanks. Rhymes
My experience of the behringer is that it didn't tune the low B at all, even playing a 12th fret harmonic. This was on 2 seperate units. If you're building a rack based rig (and your behringer comments suggest you are), then most preamps have a tuner out jack. The majority are now being built with a mute facility that leaves the tuner out facility active. this is infinitely better than running your input signal through any other device.

p.s. he got them sent over from bass central in florida much quicker and cheaper than trying to get them in the UK
