Shelia E and Levi Seacer, Jr. who played drum and bass respectively for Prince on his Sign 'o' the Times and Lovesexy tours were a brilliant rhythm section.... She was quite good looking IIRC..... Am now seriously in danger of straying (or have strayed) way off topic
Quick, pass the kleenex
  2.
Aye I joined a bit late too. Never managed to catch any shows this year I am going through to see Ross Noble at the playhouse tonight though Should be fun
me too (seeing ross noble that is). To answer Luke, i think there are a fair few edinburgh players on here. (I'm out in west lothian). My band Big Tuna play in the city fairly often, the next gig being at Walkabout on the 19th October. If you can make it,say hello.
  3.
You could walk out of Bass Day UK with a free one http://www.bassday.co.uk/news.html
I fully intend to. Just need to borrow the good lady's stocking
  4.
MB1. Mark King and Phil Gould/Gary Husband.
Which one though? I've got to say i've always preferred Gary husband - he always seems to have put more into being a drummer than gould.
  5. Alembic Mark King signature. Hang on! i've already got one ;-)
  6. Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart and Billy Kreutzman are currently my favourites I'd also have to give an honourable mention to Chris squire and bill bruford Hutch hutchinson and ricky Fataar (bonnie raitt) Graeme Jackson and Bill Shaw ;-)
  7.
Dear All An update on Bass day UK 2007 We are pleased to announce 2 more artists that have confirmed a performance at Bass Day UK 2007 Jeff Berlin & Hadrien Feraud Also in the lecture theatre we currently have clinics from the Bass Institute, Guitar-X and the Academy of Contemporary Music
Excellent! I last saw berlin when he played with the John mclaughlin trio in Leeds 1987 and he was phenomenal

Can't understand why anyone would pay a premium for an instrument that looks like someone has knocked the sh*t out of it. pristine and shiny for me I'm afraid.
  10. I went through this 6 or 7 months ago. after shopping around alot, I ended up ordering a Micheal Kelly Dragonfly fretless 5 from the states. natural quilt maple finish. Less than £500 to my door. The strings it came with were crap so i switched to a set of LaBella deep talkin flats. The bass sounds fantastic now. As near as I can get to an upright sound without getting an upright.
  11. How's about getting it advertised in Bass Guitar magazine and some of the other muso mags this time.
  12.
Spoke to my tutor about Flea.....he reckons he's a one trick pony and if he had to play Jazz or something he wouldn't have a scooby.
Perhaps you should point your tutor towards the Stanley Clarke 'Night school' DVD then. Flea more than holds his own playing with stanley, stewart copeland and other jazzers (who i can't name off the top of my head). From what i saw tonight of the coverage, the chili's were easily the best of a pretty poor line up.
  13. Bollocks!!! by Monday afternoon I'd come down very suddenly with a flu/cold so didn't make it. Still feeling crap and now even worse when I realise I missed a decent show.
  14.
Off to see Mr Pratt tonight - they've just released a load of extra tickets for tonight's show as well, only £6 a head! <geek> Going to try and get my book signed as well </geek>
Say hello if you spot me, I'll have a cream suede jacket on and will be with a very tall partially sighted american.
  15.
The only 10 string manufacturers that I know of, although there are bound to be others, are Godlyke & Dean. ...... Scoop
Alembic will make anything you ask for. Here's a ten string they've just finished.. http://alembic.com/club/messages/631/21834.html?1182300784 They're also busy with a 12 string for someone else... http://alembic.com/club/messages/631/14858.html?1181154908 John paul Jones played an Alembic 8 string on Achilles last stand.
  16.
Just heard a half hour interview which might be available on Listen Again (4-4.30 Friday). Top stuff, including an amusing call from ex-Yes guitarist Pete Banks asking to be on the 40th anniversary tour! Apparently Fish out of Water has been reissued.
Fish out of water has just been delivered to my house. It has a couple of extra takes and a dvd of the original promotional videos (featuring bill bruford and patrick moraz) plus an interview. Can't wait to get home to watch/listen.
  17. Alembic. Basses, Strings and amps. They don't make speakers but Ron Wickersham had a hand building the Grateful Dead's Wall of sound.
  18. Nice pics. The weather looks a bit suspect though. It's been a while since I saw the priory too. Used to sneak down there from school at lunchtimes.
  19.
Hi folks I'm doing a two-hour set with my 'other' gig, The Billy Mitchell Band, on the big stage at Tynemouth Priory this Sunday (15th) as part of the Mouth of the Tyne festival. It's free entry, and there's stuff in the set for everyone...
Wish i could have made it down, It looks like a very good line up; Courtney pine and the Blockheads as well as your good selves! unfortunately i'm playing saturday night and my folks are coming up from Blyth Sunday.

  21.
but my ABM500 definatly is not giving me the stuff I need!!!!
That's cos it's an Ashdown. From what I've heard and played through, an SVT and an 8x10 would be the ideal. mind you, I'm ecstatically happy every time I play through my own rig.
  22.
4) It seems odd that with concert DVDs they don't have an extra feature where you can focus on one player for the show - wouldn't cost much to slap a feature like that on,
Get the Who's 'The Kids are alright' The extras have a very good section just of the OXcam. Only entwistle (plus a little bleed through from his mike). It's astounding to see just how much he puts into a song.
  23.
I'm not doing the fest this year, guys - really sorry. However, I may well be playing in Glasgow in August, and will try to hook up a show in Edinburgh at the same time, if I can... cheers! Steve www.stevelawson.net
Drop us a line when you're sorted.
  24. I'm a little late jumping in on this but if you have the money, the best reproduction of a low B string I've ever heard came from an Eden 210XST. Saying that, I'm using EBS neo 212 and 410 cabs - they have the same footprint as each other but the 410 is a couple of inches taller.
