1. p.s. macca is a bloody good bass player. it's pretty hard playing his lines with conviction AND singing over them!
 2.
Not true. In fact, it was Carol Kaye. She´s just too modest to admit it.
Bollocks. if CK had done any of that she'd have been the first to lie about it.
 3. Well, it's pretty much all been said. All I want to say is Thank you stevie, Another bloody good day (and thanks for having a band format too!) p.s. Hadrien Feraud was the best performer of the day. What a f'ckin' unbelievable player!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( and a realy nice guy to chat with too)
 4.
Sorry about that, Jacko. I only just found out about the event myself! Hey. maybe see you there. Look for the Budgie t-shirt!
Just got back you jammy get. Won the strings and a bass!!! I was going to say hi when i knew who you were but you must have run off as soon as you won. For the record, I was the other one who said I'd come down from scotland. Guess stevie didn't see me
 5.
Anyone stop around til the end of the night to watch Hadrien Feraud? I'm liucky that I live in Manchester, so it was no problem staying til the end. And well worth waiting around for. To be honest, I'd never heard of him before (have I been sleeping under a rock?), but he blew me away. Definitely one to watch out for in the future if he's touring the UK. Bagged a set of Elites strings for freebies, so good point. Bad point....my mate's number was one out for the Overwater Bass prize draw! He's a drummer, so I'm sure he'd have handed it onto me. Oh well, that's life.
Oh Yes! I was staying overnight so I got to stay till well after the music finished. hadrien was absolutely astounding and a really nice guy to chat with. he told me he'd be in the Uk with John Mclaughlin sometime in May. Because of language differences, i don't think he understood that I wanted them to come to scotland. hats off to Stgevie for yet another fantastic day. every year it gets better. This was a much better venue than previously and having a band format for every performer was so much better than having looping (sorry guys). The only thing I'd add would be for them to maybe have a couple of rock players. I love jazz but it did seem a little one sided- especially when jeff berlin cracked his (oh so old) rock bassists can't tune joke. looking forward to next time.
 6.
For any of you out who know me. I'll be on the Overwater stand again this year. I'll be the tall chap with the camera called Stu. Head over to the Overwater stand where we will have a good range of Basses, EA Amps (Including The Micro 300) EA Cabs, Acoustic Image, Hendriksen Jazz Amp, Strings, Straps and Gig Bags. We're giving away a 50% gift certificate to one lucky winner this year (details to be confirmed on the day) as well as giving away an Overwater Canvas and Leather Gig Bag! Just pop over to the stand to enter the free prize draw. PM me for further details.
I'll be over for a chat. i've spoke with Chris the last 2 BDs and found him to be a thoroughly nice guy.
 7. So how are we going to recognise each other? I'll be the darK haired one with the Alembic sweatshirt (until I take it off).
 8.
I will be driving down and back from Stirling if anyone is interested in sharing a lift. Please ring or text me on 07941 772795!
Wish I'd known earlier - i'll be on the train.
 9.
Despite the fact that it says 'stocked by the Bass Centre' on the site, it isn't. In
Why doesn't that surprise me
 10.
I've just won the self titled "Back Door" CD on Ebay for two quid any other listening reccommendations?
You should be able to pick up the other back door album 'the human bed' on 'tinterwebthingummy
 11. Well, I saw him last night at London's Jazz Cafe and he is indeed using SWR. Looks like they've made him a signature M2 preamp which he was putting through a pair of goliath 4x10s by way of a goliath 750 power amp. I was about 8 feet from his rig and it pretty much blew me away, both in tone and power.
 12.
Miller's website still says he uses EBS though.. http://www.marcusmiller.com/faq.html?categ...=28&color=8
Artists are notoriously lax at keeping their websites up to date.
 13. Marcus no longer appears on the EBS website as an 'EBS Artist'. I'd been wondering about his status.
 14.
Hi All Only a couple of weeks to go now, remember to roder your ticket if you havn't done so already. See you there
I've ordered my tickets but I'm buggered if I know how to roder them
 15.
Doing our first lesbian wedding a week on Saturday, any volunteer roadies?
We're doing one in March for our drummers friends. They're very nice but not glamourous enough to make it onto one of 'those' videos

 17.
bannermans has one too, last time i was in there last week the idiot on PA had the whole PA too loud, hurt my ears for no good reason and couldn't hear and definition on anything but the kick and snare.
Bannermans is a pretty crap room for live music too. Everything reflects in all directions and like binkies, the sound guy hasn't got a clue.
 18. For a really deep thump, go for eden's D210xst instead of a 410. if you're dead set on a 410, then I auditioned the markbass against EBS and chose EBS. better response, power handling weight etc (and it just sounded better to my ears.)
 19.
i totally agree I have a 5 string Alembic signature series and playing through several ashdowns I struggled to make it sound anywhere near as good as it can (its an awesome instrument) I think they are totally overated Jake
Snap. The house rig in whistlebinkies in Edinburgh is Ashdown and I've never heard it sound decent.
 20.
i have a 6 string bass , its hard to slap because there is no gap to slap ive heard alembic , music man and warwick are good , any suggestions?
Seeing as you've mentioned Alembic I'm going to assume you can afford one If you have one custom built, they'll give you any string spacing you ask for. If you're buying 2nd hand, try to get their 'comfort spacing'. it's a bit wider at the bridge and a bit narrower at the nut than the standard spacing and makes slapping very easy. I have no problems on my 5s and can switch to my mates 6 string europa pretty easily. interestingly (or maybe not) this isn't the same spacing as mark King has on his alembics - his are wider at the nut and narrower at the bridge.
 21.
Not true. The folk stuff is there when you walk in. Have you been in the basement? That's where it all happens, man. It sells lots and lots all sorts, from obscure to chart stuff, and is cheaper than most. GREAT selection of DVDs, too.
I know. My reply was tongue in cheek.
 22. Last time I went looking at gear in Newcastle, we used to hang out at rock city. this moved to moseley street and I belive it's now a sound control. we also used to go to Chris and andy's on High bridge but they split and chris now runs Overwater from carlisle. windows is only good for finding obscure folk CDs. Coincidentally I'm visiting the folks this coming week so I might have a wander round the guitar shops myself.

 24.
I agree, the amount of bands I have seen that do originals are 99% of time, dull as dishwater. Listen to the legions of 'no tune' wonders on myspace working under the illusion they are the next big thing. I'm afraid i'd much rather listen to some one doing a balls out led zep or lizzy song then some dirge.
I'm having more fun and getting far more gigs doing covers than I ever did in originals bands. (apart from the original wessex chucklecopters which was just a laugh a minute anyway)
 25. Despite amp and/or cable problems and delayed flights, Linley played a storming set at bass day 2005. I'd be mightily impressed if he was invited back again. Always been a weather report fan so I was pretty upset to hear about Zawinul's passing. The programme was a repeat but watched anyway - I'd have loved to have seen the syndicate play.
