Brand X are worth a listen for some more challenging fretless - particularly the Product and Unorthodox Behaviour albums.
Good call. I'd recommend having a go at 'April' from the product album. Level 42's 'Dune Tune' is a good fretless work out. takes a bit more effort than doing it on fretted. The slapped finale sounds really cool on fretless. i tend to switch to fretless on most of the softer rock numbers in our set such as.... You stole the sun - manics dakota - stereophonics gravity - embrace, but it it also works well for harder numbers like Vertigo or 7 nation army with a bit of attack switched in.
(puts tin hat on) I personally think the Who were overated....don't get me wrong...I love the singles...."Won't get fooled again", "Who are you?" , "My Generation", "I can see for miles" are all amazing tracks. It's just that beyond the singles I can't find much to float my boat i'm afraid. Still they were still better than The Beatles (ducks for cover)
This could be construed as a suicide attempt so you'd better steer clear of the cops for a while.
He got his first Alembic basse but not that model at about 1974 n started getting explorer shaped ones between 75-76 i think
With an Epic and a rick turner, you'd be made very welcome on the alembic forum. No-one should ever try to cover any of the chili peppers numbers. It just doesn't work. I've also never heard a decent cover of Sweet Home Alabama.

You're putting on a show. Be a showman, that's what it's all about. if the judges really are professional, they won't care how many strings you're using, they just want to be entertained.
Adam Duce, Jon Miller, Jeanne Sagan, Paul Pomanko, William Murderface, Chris Wolstenholme... they get my vote.
Wolstenholme is good but he's hardly 'underrated'.
I wouldn't recommend Behringer in a thread where the OP wants something reliable
Or that works in the first place To the OP, the EBS wah one covers most of your requirements http://www.ebs.bass.se/2007/wahone.htm I didn't like the Morley pedal at all.

Jimmy Johnson when he's playing with james taylor - there's usually alot going on - couple of guitars, keys, drums, percussion, horns and god knows how many backing vocals. Phil Lesh - grateful dead, 2 guitars, 2 drummers keys and vocals and h still manages to make his pesence felt.

If you have the money and don't mind waiting a few months, Alembic will custom build any neck dimensions and string spacings you ask for.

Back on topic, I have Labella deep talking flats on my kelly dragonfly for a nice near-upright sound. However, on the fretless alembic I'm using DR red devil roundwounds to get that nice Mwah sound. Avoid Rotosound jazz flats at all costs. I tried them and found them to be rougher than barbed wire.
Another Edinburgh player here - just out of interest, what's it like playing in Walkabout? My covers band gig around Edinburgh here and there and someone mentioned there as a venue, is it any good? Sorry for the thread hijack...!
It's a good gig usually. Pretty full till about 11:45 when all the ladies head off to the night clubs. They have a reasonable PA and we've always had a very good sound guy/gal. The pay's not bad but you need to go throug an agent - the manager will point you in the right direction.

At this year's European Bass Day they're holding the World Championship Air Bass competition. Surely a good idea for Manchester...... Who can stand still looking bored the best
Shelia E and Levi Seacer, Jr. who played drum and bass respectively for Prince on his Sign 'o' the Times and Lovesexy tours were a brilliant rhythm section.... She was quite good looking IIRC..... Am now seriously in danger of straying (or have strayed) way off topic
Quick, pass the kleenex
Aye I joined a bit late too. Never managed to catch any shows this year I am going through to see Ross Noble at the playhouse tonight though Should be fun
me too (seeing ross noble that is). To answer Luke, i think there are a fair few edinburgh players on here. (I'm out in west lothian). My band Big Tuna play in the city fairly often, the next gig being at Walkabout on the 19th October. If you can make it,say hello.
