1. Hi Matt. Is the 2x10 still available and if so could you give me an idea how much carriage to edinburgh would be?
2. Vic also plays a five string Joe Compito fretless.
3. Depending on the date I'd be interested. I'd probably only be able to get down on the sunday although with plenty forward planning I might be allowed a whole weekend.
4. Haven't missed one yet but I'm humming and ha'ing about this year's show. Trouble is it's moved to October and I have a wedding gig in Blair Atholl the night before so I'll not get back to Edinburgh till after 3am. We usually leave here around 7 to get to manchester and my mate's blind so I have to do all the driving. Still it would be a shame to miss it, I really like catching up with folks.
5. We've played PJ's loads. Always a great gig - The place is empty when you load in - plenty of time for a good soundcheck then enough time left over to go up the road for a band pizza. We've never used their backline though. I like to know exactly what I'm going to sound like and the sound guy appreciates that - you quite often run into sound guys that want evryone to sound like they're playing a fender with 40 year old flats
6. In amongst all the wedding gigs we'll be playing at PJ Molloy's on Friday 16th April. The Music kicks off around 10pm.
7. I've just (25 minutes ago) put chromes on my fretless after years of playing with DR red devils and I must say I'm really liking the change. For whatever reason I've also been able to drop the action a fair bit with no buzz.
8. Anyone mentioned Suzi Quattro yet? She had my generation stomping. Another vote for jim lea of slade too. Bring back the 70's
9. I'd like to see the bass reviewers given some basic O level maths tuition. Twice in the Luna Paz review, Petra jones says the bass has 18 fret where I can count 20 quite easily and I'm blind as a bat
10. Big Tuna at PJ Molloys in dunfermline http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzNmNAIzmGI...feature=related and a couple from the royal highland show.. 11. Bought an Ampeg SVP preamp from Krispn in october - excellent condition and sounds perfect. A pleasure to do business and I'd recommend him to anyone
12. Had a great day too. Made it back to Edinburgh about 7.30 after getting stuck behind som really sloooooooooooww drivers on the A68. Going to read the instructions on my new pedal now. Will post some pics when I get them downloaded.
13. Still coming down (provided I can get past Morpeth) and I'm looking forward to trying out the Hellborg. TM stevens went through a full hellborg rig at last years Bss Day and he sounded amazing. I'll be bringing the latest incarnation of my rig so folks will get the chance to try out an SVP-pro preamp and a Fender TBP reamp if they want.
14. They need to do something about the noise as even though they have double doors, the racket from outsid ethe auditorium was very noticeable up until the vendors started to dismantle their stands. It didn't help to have Yolanda right next to the theatre door with Matamp and yamaha right next to her. There were several stands on the lower floor not making any noise that could have been swapped with the amplified vendors. Just turning the bloody things down would have helped.
15.
, but it was cool hearing Yolanda play through a GT200 and 2 8x10's,
It wasn't cool hearing Yolanda playng while the acts were on in the main auditorium. There were several instances when her bass was coming through louder than the layers on the stage. Perhas in future, the sales people will have the manners to give it a rest while the performers are doing their thng. (or is that just wishful thinking?)
16. Wow! there's alot of hatred in this thread! Are we sure one or two guitarists haven't sneaked in to cause trouble?
17. Still planning to be there with my rig and potentially 5 Alembic basses for folks to try, plus my kelly dragonfly and my customised precision. Oh, ..... and a partially sighted American.
18.
but noone is going to say Jeffery Archer is a better novelist or Victoria Wood a better playwrite.
Why not? Just because you think isherwood and mailer are better doesn't mean anyone else will neccessarilly agree with you. What one person thinks is good another person will think is pish as sure as eggs are eggs. like I said, music is not a competetive sport so there can be no winners or losers, only participants. Ok... I may have a preference for a certain player but it certainly doesn't mean that person is any better than someone who's music I don't like.. If the thread had been entitled 'favourite british bassist' then I think the discussion would be a whole lot more valid (although I have to say my favourite changes from day to day depending on mood and what I've been listening to).
19. Can you provide some info on the speaker? i.e. impedance and power handling? Could be interested if you were willing to meet halfway (say glenrothes) depending on the specs.
20. Music is an art form, not a competition. We're all going to have our own preferences so there's no real way we can say one player is better than the other.
21. Alembic ship their instruments from california fully set up. Who am I to argue with people who know?
22.
I was in Glasgow city centre on monday and in WH Smith`s there was 21 copies of last months BGM and in Breahead (a major shopping venue in the West) there was 13 copies. Don`t think it`s selling too well over this side of the country. Jez
Can you read over your side of the country ?
23. Just checking we're bringing basses and amps? I'm pretty sure my american mate is cming to this too. He also has a couple of interesting Alembics.
