Great song, great Trevor Horn production, probably the worst bass miming ever! Missed Lemmy (distracted by the lady) - I'll have to watch it again...... He did pop up everywhere in those days mind, usually on Tiswas

That is the biggest pain, right there. I generally "accidentally" tw@t them with the corner of a cab......

Thanks for the OP Hobbayne, I don't think I've heard that for 40 years! The Stranglers were always rooted in 60's psychedelia. I saw them live on the "Black & White" tour (Cambridge Corn Exchange) - like many other BC-ers I'm sure, it was JJB who totally inspired me to take up bass. Apart from the stand-out "Hanging around" this one was always my favourite from the "Rattus" album:

I'd beat that with a violin made in the 1790's.......(NB: cooincidentally also happen to have a '57 P bass!) in terms of the OP criteria; the oldest I have is a beat-up Victorian concertina I bought on Cambridge market for 50p when I was about 10 - never learned to play it, but it inspired me musically and started a life-long interest in musical instruments as beautiful and fascinating things. Oldest thing I actually still use is a hand-tooled leather guitar strap I bought in 1979.

OK......don't have a cow, man this is the cream of BC punning
-
Wonder if he's got any udder basses like that.........

Nope - I'd have loved one, but I used it with an old H/H 2x15 which was bulletproof and had any amount of low end, but weighed an absolute ton. Hope to have a full vintage Bassman rig one day

Yup, it's EvilLordJuju of this forum - I've done a few trades with him, really nice guy and knows more about vintage Gibsons & Epiphones than anyone I know. Price reflects rarity I think; although there's little love of Gibson basses on BC there's still quite a bit elsewhere - especially for some of the '80's rarities like this and Flying V basses. Personally not my thing at all, but if this was at Andy Baxters it'd be going for considerably more the eBay price.

Have to say, that looks really nice, especially given asking price i was even stupider a few years ago, and after years of playing only 4's, on impulse bought a Listerud Totem 7 on BC. Fabulous bass, I but very soon realised it was beyond me, and apart from a brief dialliance with a Paulman 5 stuck to 4's ever since.

Aw; there's another thread in the making there - White horses, Singing ringing tree, Robinson Crusoe, Banana Splits........
-
With his more than passing resemblance to Fred; mystery-solving pal of Scooby-doo, I'd imagine him driving one of these.....
-
Jeez, I'm come over all nostalgic - and the first EVER time that I've it seen it in colour! Thanks for sharing, Ricky

When I was about 7 I had a pair of Stingray swim fins - basically little plastic fins that clipped onto your wrists; they didn't work, but you looked cooler whilst you were drowning..... Just thought I'd share that Anyone remember Marine Boy and his Oxygum? (enabled him to breathe underwater)
-
Good advice re the wristbands, reckon I'll try those too I carry a little clip-on mains powered fan in my gig-bag for those really sweaty gigs - there's usually something handy to clip it onto - and also tend to use coated strings these days (DR Black Beauties)

1967 Gibson EB-2 Cherry Red - Near Mint / Epiphone Rivoli
Shaggy replied to christoff_reid's topic in Basses For Sale
Beautiful - I have a 1969 EB-2DC, they are sooooooo classy in the cherry finish The baritone switch is (I believe) a capacitor "choke" that filters out most of the upper frequencies but leaves the bass and midrange thick and punchy. Instant blues rock machine. Must have been a pretty special P bass to let this go - bump for vintage Gibbo goodness. -
Jeez, you missed out one of the main brilliant bonuses - the funky blue LED's on the front....... Good score!

would you really let someone called "Globewang" near your nuts?

I used to have a late '70's Bassman 135 silverface - like thodrik says; a bit underpowered for these days and as a gigging all-valve amp I prefer the Mesa D-180 I use now, but it does get my vote as the best looking amp ever made...... Simple, dependable, great clean tone; only really breaks into overdrive when pushed to the very limit

Another - pretty much vocals over a very simple bass riff -

Lol, I just thought it fitted the OP criteria - agreed it can be a bit dirge-y unless covered by a really good singer (and likewise I used to nod off when playing it years ago in a covers band - same with "with or without you") but the original is a great and powerful song. Some really good examples in posts above, although some I wouldn't call all that simple
