1. My old spare bass - whoever gets this won't be disappointed, punches *way* above its price
2. You can spec Limelights with a very light relic I understand. Although mine is a medium relic, it is late 60s/early 70s spec with a B 40mm nut which is sweet spot for me, plus the TV Fender logo which is my fave. It is by far the best P I've ever played and sounds spectacular with the stock, pickup which I understand they wind themselves: Limelight can do with their own logo if required. A Fender Nate Mendel, as others have said, would be your best Fender option. 70s logo, B width neck, light relic nitro finish. It does have a Seymour Duncan SPB3 fitted along with a Badass-type bridge which may or may not be a showstopper. Other Fender Ps may have full fat C 44mm necks as you know.
3. Try using plexi or plexiglass as search term. Pretty sure that as well as the Dan Armstrong one which was bespoke and probably the best known, there have been acrylic/plexi Precision variants also,
4. Contact Overdriver by PM if not already done so, he is the resident forum 'Berger dude and may be interested. Great bass btw.
5. Check out Basses For Sale section, Gareth, he of the garden table of bass lust, has just listed one...
6. My 88 'Ray (now owned by a Mr Keeves of this parish) remains the finest wooden bass I've ever owned
7. 'Nard, Good Times, 2EQ 'Ray, well aged flats. Doesn't get any better IMHO http://youtu.be/M1APFyc_QtQ
8. Yup, this is a heavy relic Limelight 69 and they do lower levels of relic if required. Best P I've ever played...
9. Must admit, having had my first really decent Precision in my Limelight strung with flats, it has swayed me a bit, but if push came to shove I'd still choose a 2EQ Ray if it was only one bass. Ideally though, I'd like both - a 2EQ 'Ray in natural ash is a fine, fine, iconic thing.
10. Lovely, very Paul Simonon / Dee Dee Ramone. I also have a (nearly) birth year Limelight which is late 60s/early 70s and it's by far the best P I've ever played or owned. Enjoy.
11. Yup, sold off forum. Title edited to,reflect few days back.
12. ...and final bump before eBay close on Saturday. Had a few trade offers, however cash is king on this one owing to me having already bought its replacement. Happy to pull it off the Bay for the right Basschatter. Cheers
13. This is number 0179, I've recently purchased 0181 another Limelight Precision and I'd agree on weight. Mines is around 8.5 pounds with alder body, light resonant and plays superbly. Whoever gets this wont be disappointed,
14. Midweek bump. Now on the Bay but would prefer to deal with a fellow bass enthusiast via here. Just to answer a couple of queries this is the XL2 not the XL2A so it's controls are VVT, identical to a Jazz bass. Neck width also similar to jazz but deeper - Deep D as opposed to C type section - I'm normally a 40mm+ kinda guy but have no issues with this owing to depth.
15. Bump for the weekend and now reduced to £1300 shipped in UK. Few new pics showing original Steinberger gigbag, plus back of bass with boomerang pivot in good nick : And original, listing corrected - rechecking Steinbergerworld.com, I actually made a typo when I did the listing and bass dates to April 1985. Finally, just for interest, link to interesting article with Tim Commerford of RATM who's now using Steinbergers exclusively for his side project - most famous for being Mr 2EQ Ray then Jazz then back to Ray recently in RATM http://www.bassguitarmagazine.com/interviews/tim-commerford-future-shock/
16.
Thats great! What year/model is it based on? I know you said 1962 but I assumed it was a typo.
It was listed as a 60s and it does have a slab rosewood board and tort, however to me it's probably nearer a late 60s/early 70s with the TV logo (my personal fave P logo) and 40mm B neck nut, the latter being reminiscent of Nate Mendels P. Oh, and it's notably lightweight and resonant, around the 8.5 pounds mark. It's a great bass.
17. New 62 in Fiesta Red just landed. Downsizing collection to one wooden bass only from my XL2, couldn't find a decent 2EQ Ray, and have really enjoyed a Matt Freeman Precision as my 2nd residence bass for past couple,of years following a bad MIM Precision experience years ago. My first relic bass also (wife and son: "it needs a new paint job" - sheesh!). Very impressed so far, nice comfy neck - rolled edges, 40mm B type nut, and sounds great with flats on. I can do anything from Motown (tone off)to 70s/80s punk and indie with a pick. Chuffed. 18. Purple Ray, Purple Ray... (I'll get my coat)
19. Smooth deal with Paul for his Limelight - great comms, fast shipping, very well packed and most importantly a great bass. Deal with confidence.
20. After much deliberation and a recent career change, have came to the conclusion that I cant justify having 4 figures worth of bass sitting in a rack only getting played on occaisionally. Therefore for reluctant sale is my 1985 serial number 2669 (which dates to April 1985 according to steinberger world.com) Steinberger XL2 bass made in the Newburgh facility. I would describe condition as 'good' with the following plus points:

Electronics, neck, frets all in excellent working condition, very little fret wear, zero neck issues as you'd expect.
Legrest (one of first few models with flip rest) attached and fully functional
Original battery cover present and correct (these normally go missing)
Original pivot plate attached and working.
Front plate/logo in very good condition - only a wee nibble out of bottom corner (pictured)
Original Steinberger gigbag - bit tatty but still functional.
Non-good points:

Some buckle rash/scratches on back (pictured)
Thumb-sized scratch on back of neck at 15th fret - very rarely venture up dusty end so has never really bothered me.
Small chip out of gel coat near serial number on back of bass
General small light scratches/marks
The gel coat chip and the scratch could be repaired using standard polyester gel coat repair kits for fibreglass boats - Steinberger made these basses using the gel coat to line the moulds with carbon composite then applied to form the main body and neck. The gel coat could then be buffed to a gloss finish. Places like www.headlessusa.com show some of these repairs on their site. Owing the the relatively minor nature, I've never bothered. Price is £1300 which is hopefully fair - have seen recent better condition transitional examples listed on here for £1700, poorer condition US ones are listing on eBay for about £1700ish also, Japan is just stupid-o-clock. Can post in UK - will be well packaged - please check my feedback. Bass is located in Central Scotland handy for all major motorway networks. Pics below. Cheers. 21. JJ Burnell - love it in the context of the Stranglers but would never work for anything I've ever done. Oh, and the bridge pickup on a jazz, period. Like a goose farting in the fog as Billy Connoly once said
22. Just missed out on a shell pink MIJ Precision in Glasgow earlier this week for £450 on Gumtree. Was gutted until I was lucky enough to snag a Fiesta Red 62 Limelight a couple of days later.
23. Probably about 400-500 ish in an old covers outfit at a Greenpeace festival just outside Brighton in late 90s using my beloved old Westone 1A. In terms of ratio of cost of gear to headcount of audience, that has to be doing well I guess.
