1. Talking of playing like a sequencer this by the great Derek Forbes is outstanding. Clearly written in early 80s trying to mimic sequenced Giorgio Moroder stuff like ‘I feel love’, yer man nails *this* on a Precision while “a bit pished”
2. Don’t underestimate a good standard USA Precision. I moved to a 2008 Standard (same as the post 2012s, graphite neck, rolled edges, through body stringing but minus the Custom Shop pickup) from a Limelight. Mainly because it was slightly lighter and had low mass tuners which made is easier for my 10yo son to learn on. The tonal variation isn’t as wide as the Limelight, but the fundamental tone is superb. Was minded to try out the Custom Shop pickup but tbh it sounds great as it is. I paid a decent price for it used and won’t lose out should I move it on. Oh and my son loves it...
3. I’ve had a couple in my time and have only moved them on for financial reasons. Great basses, very substantial despite compact dimensions, deep J width necks also J type VVT controls (latter XL2A has Hazlab centre-detented active controls) Great unique tone with amazing fundamental note and sustain that goes on forever - think I managed almost 30 seconds once on a fretted C. If finances allowed, I’d have another in a heartbeat.
4. Lovely. Well aged Olympic White, looks so cool. Great price also.
5. They’re hand wound by Mark the owner and are fabulous - amazing tonal range.
6. This is a lovely, lovely bass. Only sold it on as I had an option on an ultra lightweight USA P which I figured would be easier for my young son to learn on. The Limelight has got a great range of sound, and as Derek says a slim (for a P)) neck width - similar to the B widths that were around in late 60s/early 70s like Nate Mendel's P is modelled on but quite deep. Found it a wee bit different moving to the shallow modern C profile on my USA P but getting used to it.
7. A late 80s 2EQ Stingray, Honeyburst, maple neck with a light flame. Still miss my 88 Black/Maple Ray (Paul - if you ever want to sell let me know?) but love Honeyburst. Just ahead of a heavily beaten up early 60s Sunburst P bass (Martyn Casey from the Bad Seeds owns my dream P)
8. Only if you’re North of the border and drink has been taken... http://youtu.be/vkpOfHW75ck
9. PM Marc S - I know he was gutted at missing out on mine. Amazing basses, GLWTS
10. Re lefty XL2, its possibly an XL2A which are the latter active variants. Volume, pickup pan and bass treble boost/cut latter two of which have centre dentents. The bog standard XL2 would have no detents and a standard Jazz typ VVT.
11. With a 2EQ I always do the same, max the bass, bring on the treble just a touch until you get the bite you need (or all the way off for dubby stuff), keep amp controls flats. Job done.
12. My sons just started getting guitar lessons but he's free to use any of my bass, acoustic or electric if he wants. For me, he wants to learns stuff from songs he likes, and he's inherited my own eclectic tastes so would probably go with Rappers Delight - Sugarhill Gang (He's more into rap than Chic, but loves the bass line "That's the one you always play Daddy") The Chain - Fleetwood Mac - GoTG2 has a lot to answer for but he loves it, one of the first lines I learnt Another One Bites the Dust - various TV game shows have a lot to answer for, but have told him the story of John Deacon trying to emulate Good Times Smells Like Teen Spririt - obvs Smoke in the Water - but only if I nail the guitar solo - no pressure...
13. Now sold to a fellow Scottish BCer and on its way along M8. Thanks for the huge amount of interest, the most I've ever had in a BC sale
14. Smooth deal with Derek for my Limelight P, great comms, nice guy, no issues. Deal with confidence
15. Thanks for all the comments guys. The neck is probably closer to a B profile as also seen on Nate Mendel P, wee bit thicker than a Jazz (= A profile historically) and slightly deeper but narrower than a 42-44mm C profile P (which I've also played recently) It's a brilliant neck and with the rolled edges and worn back plays amazingly
16. Approx 9lbs using bathroom scales. It's an alder body, nice and resonant, not too much of a boat anchor. Cheers
17. For sale, owing to me restricting collection to one only, and a hankering for sunburst, is this amazing Limelight P, the bass that finally convinced me of the virtues of a decent P. Fiesta red medium relic, slightly less reliced on back than a custom shop Pino, with sexy aged tort, slab rosewood board, clay dots, ultra comfy neck with nut a nadge under 40mm (see pic), rolled fingerboard edges, reverse tuners, late 60s/early 70s TV logo. Hand wound pickup with CTS pots, switchcraft jack and, as a result, the best tone control I've had on a P bass, anything from Motown finger thump through to middly punk-era picking. Comes with good quality gig bag, price is £735 plus UK shipping, bass in situated in Central Scotland handy for all major travel networks if anyone wants to do F2F/pickup. Please feel free to check my feedback built up over a few years on BC. Cheers
18. Great deal with Callum for his Precision. Friendly, good comms,, fast shipping and ultra well-packed. Bass as described and great. Deal with confidence!
19. Lovely, lovely, lovely. This is the MusicMan bass equivalent of rocking horse droppings, SLO necks on 'Rays are ultra rare in the used marketplace.
20. Roadrunner - Jonathan Richman. Simple, catchy, improvisable, extendable, doesn't matter if your timing drifts a nadge *and* a bona fide Noo Wave classic. Blank Generation - Richard Hell. The audience will think its Stray Cat Strut initially, and your guitarist will love the ultra gnarly Robert Quine solo.
21. Looks,like a 38mm Jazz width nut, light relic.
22. The preamp is the latter A-designated preamp e.g. an XL2 with this fitted would be an XL2A. Original preamps were powered VVT identical to a Jazz, the A preamp had the centre-detented boost and cut control which is active. This bass is a rare as rocking horse droppings and, as such, is very well priced. Good luck with the sale.
23. Oddly enough, love this on a guitar but prefer my 62 Precisions sunburst with a tad of mojo.
24.
Fantastic. Wouls you consider selling it ?
PMd
25. I've probably got your ideal bass in my Limelight. Pino colour scheme, hand-wound pickup which sounds outstanding, and a 40mm B width nut. No 181 if you want to reference it with Mark at any point
