  1. Cool, great story behind it… would love to have an instrument that old 👍
  2. And if you tell them you play banjo with your sister and wife, they ask if it’s a duo or trio?
  3. I got my banjo down form the loft after over a year. Gonna finally get round to learning a few tunes on it. The action was virtually zero at the 12th fret. almost every note buzzed or was dead. It was OK last time i looked! So I looked at a few websites and there are various ways to raise the action: Via the Truss rod Via the threaded rod at the back tighten the drum head get a higher bridge. All a bit complicated for me. So I kept looking and found someone who advised putting a lolly stick under the bridge. Seemed simple so I went for that. Found a Ice-lolly in the freezer, ate it and cleaned the stick. See pics: Seems to work OK - but should I go for one of the pukka solutions instead? Any tips appreciated. 4. OK, here's a soundclip I recorded this afternoon. It's first take, with one rehearsal so a bit rusty. Recorded straight to Zoom recorder with no post processing (except trimming). And it features a Ukulele!
  5. Wow, that was really good! Any clips with the drummer using the whole kit?
  6. Good idea… just tried it and the uke case fits inside the suitcase (along with the pedal and space to spare!).
  7. Some LP tributes on 6Music last night, available on BBC sounds: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/b011wdm3 https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/b011wg0p https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/b011wh3d https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/b011wh9m I think there'll be more, but they put those up at short notice.
  8. Probably going to use it while playing an acoustic. Plus I've been acquiring some other bits e.g. a snare/floor tom over the last few years, and will use then to record a drum track to some songs into the DAW. So only for solo projects at the moment, but maybe collaborations some day.....
  9. Made a suitcase bass drum- well attached a bass drum pedal to a suitcase. Will be part of a ‘busking’ kit. Not that I have any drumming skills or anyone to busk with !
  10. Just popped into the reggae thread to pay respects to Scratch. Probably my number one Reggae ‘person’ (I won’t narrow him to artist or producer). RIP
  11. I think Ken/Craig got the last laugh though..... didn't he become very successful behind the scenes of music?
  12. Hhhmm - pretty thoughtless move by the school there. And unfortunately it was ever thus.
  13. The beige ones just look wrong against the colour of the bass. Go chrome!
  14. Here are some other case of cover stars suing (with varying degrees of legitasamy) A Brief History of Musicians Being Sued by Their Album Cover Subjects | Pitchfork
  15. The Ramones were certainly not amongst the punk bands who included reggae songs or reggae-inluenced bass-lines😃.
  16. Thanks.... I saw the post in time and set the recorder. Looking forward to finding some 'me' time to watch it!
  17. Fair enough if he does a few recreations and dines out on it for life, but suing is totally out of order. Typical of the litigious culture in the States..... which reminds me of this by The Yeastie Girls (recorded even longer ago than Nevermind):
  18. And if the old mix becomes unavailable, most of have a reverb pedal or plug-in we can set to “max”👍
  19. I don’t watch many films - What’s the reference here?
  20. Indeed. When I saw it I thought ‘this is going straight to off topic’😃
  21. From around 2006 - CSS - Let's Make Love And Listen To Death From Above: I used to love this album at the time..... about time for a re-listen!
  22. Thanks! “The First Time” is a good show, but I have not heard the Charlie Watts episode - but will put that right soon. Same for DID…. I took a look at the track list though, and was not too surprised to see there was nothing in the Stones-ish genre in there.
  23. And another: !!! (as any fule kno, "!!!" is popularly pronounced "chk chk chk", although any three repetitive sounds is legit)
  24. Another one is The Rapture:
  25. Around the end of the last century there was a bunch of bands doing a sort of post-punk/funk-punk kind of thing. One of them was Radio 4: I'll follow with at least one more.
