  1. For those not familiar with much Hip Hop there is a four part BBC Radio 2 (yes Rap is Radio 2 now!) series by Romesh Ranganathan (yes the comedian!) where he gives a pretty good intro... the first one has expired and the second only has three days left Romesh Ranganathan: For The Love of Hip Hop https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m000yvxd
  2. Amazing how someone can write an ad that will contain at least one red flag for each reader.
  3. Actually, I think that even massive Smiths/Morrissey fans don't want to hear another singer like Morrisey. It only worked once.
  4. I was surprised to see that the 10-piece live band for the shows was put together by the keyboard player from Klaxons:
  5. I think of rap as just the vocal style, and hip hop covers the instrumental music and other cultural elements. and yes not all rap is hip hop. For example you could think of Johnny Rotten as rapping, but not the Pistols as hip hop.
  6. I can’t stand that either. But as you found out there I’d loads of rap not like that.
  7. I purchased the new album by "Sault" yesterday... here's London Gangs. I think it counts as rap.....: They are one of those 'anonymous' outfits, but I think one of the people behind Sault produced the Little Simz album.
  8. Ha Ha, when I saw the thread resurrection I thought to myself that I could post Little Simz 😃... you're ahead of me! I think everything I've heard by her has been great.
  9. Sounds like you were just being honest and trying to manage expectations. But then maybe that made them think you’re not the right fit….. which may or may not be correct. The opposite approach brings to mind a phrase which has entered the lexicon recently “fake it till you make it”!
  10. Yep, still in working in working condition! Now one of my kids has left home I’ve got room to keep it permanently out of the lost, do hopefully I can not get rusty again.
  11. You're giving me GAS for G-clamps now!
  12. Looking forward to the pics and maybe a soundclip......
  13. Good idea! I could add something to the title maybe?
  14. I'm willing to hold my head high with the banjo, but draw the line at clip-on tuners while performing (it's OK while you're actually tuning... then unclip it!)
  15. That can make it easier to get a rehearsal room too. It’s not just band members who can be unavailable.
  16. Never played banjo in a band but at home I tune to a clip-on or my phone app.
  17. Does anyone know of an example on YT or whatever of the same group of musicians perform the same piece twice.... once in ET and once in Just intonation?
  18. It came up on my FB feed. I thought it was surprisingly good, had a definite Stranglers feel and thought the video was great. Didn’t realise it was a cover.
  19. If the images were of the current age rather than the 1970s then they could be holograns
  20. You never saw David Crosby and Jimmy Greaves together - coincidence?
  21. Recorded a quick demo on the zoom recorder... bit rough bit gives an idea where I'm headed:
  22. Wasn't too bad after some reassurance and tips form the BC'ers!
  23. Not keen on sunburst or natural wood finishes. I don't have a default preference, but the most of the last few basses I have fancied have been orange. See this example from the bassist of The Orielles: (Impact of bass is lessened somewhat by the brighter orange jumper, but what do I know about colour co-ordination!)
  24. Had first rehearsal after lockdown and was dreading the worst. We went through a bunch of the more well known song and went surprisingly well. Then the drummer said he wanted leave for personal reasons ( and guitarist will take this opportunity to drop out too) so currently the band is in limbo.🙁
