I too would fell a bit cheated if the band didn't make some kind of effort. For example if I saw a (random band) Bauhaus trib and they came on wearing tracksuits trainers etc. In fact not just tributes....Applies to covers bands too. On holiday abroad a couple of years ago we found a beach bar which had a live band each night. One night it was "classic rock"... Smoke on the Water and so on. The drummer looked like he always had a decent image and was a good 20 years younger than the other two. So far so good. The other two turned up in their 'day clothes' and set up. The bass player disappeared for a few mins and came back wearing a pair of faded Jeans and a tie-dye shirt. Good stuff - fitted the image. The singer/guitarist however was wearing a pair of those modern long shorts with loads of pockets and strings, and sports-casual t-shirt. i.e clothes not invented at the time of the music. He said into the mike that it wasn't worth changing. Bad show IMO.

Once you are into pukka tributes then soundalike is a given. The audience are also their to have fun, so making some effort on the looks front is important towards that. There is also "act-a-like"... for example I saw a Stones trib a couple of years ago and not only Mick, but Keith and Ronnie, had worked on all the mannerisms and stage routines etc. I think it depends on the band too. A Pink Floyd or Genesis trib may attract an audience of "chin-strokers", but Stones or Bowie a more fun-oriented crowd.

What are you listening to right now?

I'm not a massive fan of The Who (especially the 'Rock' years 😕), but really enjoying this instrumental from the High Numbers (i.e. before they were called the Who). Came up on facebook. Disclaimer: A couple of folk on youtube are disputing who it is . But great track whoever IMO. -
I saw a pic the other day (might have been on BC?) of a Queen tribute. Freddie, Brian and Roger all were dressed/wigged up. John was just wearing what he wore all day. I think that may underline your point!

The most hilariously bad song I have heard

This looks like a rehearsal for a full concert I saw on YouTube a year or two ago. It was to recreate the Shaggs music with the original singer plus some new musicians. There was also an interview with the band leader / musical director. The BL said that she got together a bunch of proper musicians and they leaned all the songs as they were played... out of time, out of tune, mistakes, the lot. Must have been a lot harder than playing a 'corrected' version of the music. The BL was asked about singer-Shagg's musicality.... "I don't think she hears rhythm" was the succinct response! -
I knew eventually someone would bring Hitler into it. Now you have lost the argument .

The most hilariously bad song I have heard

I liked that at the time... still sounds OK . The female member is called Manda Rin...… just in case anyone needs another reason to dislike -
Glass half full eh?

That fits more with what he said/played, but he flashed up 11/2 before he said it (7mins 20secs). I think he got 11/2 by counting half notes (at least that what he says).

Seems like the kind of thing that gets ironically entered into the Eurovision Song Contest these days. Might need a rework on the lyrics🙁. -
Thanks…. Never knew “Hey Yah” was in 11/2.

Same for me a couple of years ago… I walked out after half a song

For practical purpose: too subtle For aesthetic purpose: not subtle enough

OK, last one (for today anyway 😀)

Agree, and for me the same goes for Hipgnosis.

Do you have a supportive partner and is it important?
Nail Soup replied to Cat Burrito's topic in General Discussion
Mrs Soup is somewhere between tolerant and supportive. On the upside she is OK with time spent on band rehearsals, occasional gigs, learning songs, home recordings and visits to play at open mics or folk circles. On the downside she will never (like NEVER) see me play live or listen to any recorded material ☹️. And she doesn't understand the cost of gear etc.... thinks £100 is a lot to spend on a guitar and so on ☹️☹️. She doesn't have any hobbies which are non-domestic.... which means we have a beautifully kept garden (I mow the lawn and that's about it) for example... but nothing just for her. -
Here's one where I like the cover, but not on a favourite album (I think the Doors are OK, for the record)

Some nice dots for me…. Don’t need anything fancy. Each to their own, but if you are making an instructional video on YouTube DO NOT use a plain neck for Chrissakes!!! 😡

Here goes........ Some blurb for the voting page: The picture bought to mind the decayed industry we see around us, a thriving workplace has become a void. I called the song "Into The Void" and that in turn led to a downbeat, goth-y feel. end of blurb. Recorded with Studio One. First time out for my upgrade to Studio one Five, with some new (virtual) amps/pedals. First time out for a new set of drum sounds too. Daw = Studio One (five). Mic = Sure SM58, Guitar = Squier telecaster, Bass = Vantage, Drums = Studio one piano roll with Red Zep sounds.

I remember "English Disease" and "Hank Turns Blue". Hank is the noisier, so I'll have a go at that
