1.
yeah just like rope!
yeah... all floppy... I've got a load of hemp rope on my classic MK1. Mirror dinghy...
 2. Walter Trout's current crew: Rick Knapp on Bass & Joey Pafumi on Drums he's on the UK leg of his world tour in October... some 28 dates in UK http://www.waltertrout.com/tourdates.htm if you get a chance, see him... you won't regret it... pure blues power, probably THE best blues guitar player in the world. Certainly give EC a run for the money. I was lucky back in March to be in the front of the crowd for his show. I was so close, I could have helped him play his guitar...
 3. http://www.madaguitars.com/ it's made with Hemp... http://www.madaguitars.com/concept.htm " The MADA caimes body is an organically shaped semi-acoustic electric guitar body made of hemp pulp and is not carved or milled like traditional guitars. Design has revolutionized the production technique. One form without any linings or bracings. With its edge-less organic shape, MADA develops an unmistakable, wonderful sharp and organic sound." Wonder what it could do for a Bass body???
 4.
I get this after playing my Rickenfaker & edgebound Ibanez, but not with P-Bass. So I know it's down to body contour, bass height, & also playing style.
does the P-Bass have the bridge ashtray in place?
 5. I have a Danelectro eStudio headphone amp... I don't recommend it... too much hiss (constant volume hiss as well...) and no aux input. http://www.danelectro.com/danomisc.htm
 6. Fingers cos I like the action very low and also play blues and reggae which suit fingerstyle as well... I tend to get carried away with pick and have to have the action right up to avoid buzz... so I can swap over quickly, I keep one P-Bass set up for pick playing.
 7.
My first bass what a Squier California series Jazz Bass, which looked something like this when new: I decided black was too common, so I would re-finish it. I took it apart, and sanded the thing down to the wood, so no it looks more like this; {image snipped} I was going to cover it with Astro Boy cartoons, but I thought I'd put it to the community of Basschat to decide a new finish for it. If you were to re-finish a bass, what would you do to it? The person who comes up with the best idea will have their username put wherever they want it. Go nuts! Cheers, Lee
so what happened to the original pickguard? As far as I can recall... only the good bodies get the natural or sunburst finish, the ones with poor grain or other blemishes or the failed sunbursts get the solid treatment... I'd go for the white primer treatment as well... or a white satin finish... needs to be thin enough to let the existing grain just show through. Try and get it close to Olympic White...
 8.
This single-cut makes nice use of the extra body volume: Alex
are there slots leading into a chamber... it's not quite clear on the photo... they appear to be slots but could just be darker wood...
 9.
just like a bus - you wait for ages then two come along at the same time I don't suppose you play anything else? or sing?
singing would put me in the spotlight... people would be blinded by the glare off my bonce... it would mean having to find a suitable "Blues" hat... plus I haven't really sung in public since my voice broke some 35 years ago... I can do backing... I could dig out my guitar and tune the bottom 4 strings DACD and play 7th chords to the progressions... or tune normally and double the bassline an octave higher... I've been meaning to get my guitar playing back up to scratch... no soloing or lead, just get the chords right and do the rhythm
 10.
morning....nudge!
you don't need to bump that often... every other day is frequent enough... any more often and people start getting annoyed...
 11. Does it run on Linux? If not I don't want to know... not only that you want MONEY!!!!!!! and it isn't really multiplayer from what I can see... can you connect with other players and jam online?
 12.
I'd be interested too - I've been attempting to put a blues band together in the gloucester area with a mate of mine for a while, but no luck finding other musicians so far.
you do realise I'm in Gloucester as well... bit problematic with your band though, difficult to fit two bassists in...
 13.
Alesis SR-16 Drum Machine with power supply and the footswitch controller. Works perfectly, looking for £50.
pm'd
 14. leave the existing strings on until you've got your act together playing wise and really know what you want... try to have a play with other peoples fretless basses to get a feel for the different types... playing around with different brands/gauges of flatwounds can get expensive... but once you found a set you like, they last far longer (that is unless you really have to have the "new" sound...)
 15.
Home made, not by me, very solid, metal corners, metal grill, chunky wheels, XLR connector on the back, have a jack lead for this, will chuck in. £90, you must collect, unless pretty local and I can bum a lift, as long as you don't mind my housemate coming into your house and playing cheesy blues licks on any guitars in the area. 8ohm. At the back of this pic <image cut to avoid annoying others...> Also have a Peavey Black widow speaker, at least, the magnet and a replacement basket, offers on that.
'scuse me, but what is the fretless bass on the right hand side of the picture... the one with the upright style tuners and the purple fretboard? 'tis cool... what's the woods? the red bodied bass isn't too shaby either... free bump... :)
 16.
What happened to this thread??? I was looking foreward to some ramp porn
I've taken my trial ramps off pending making final ones... I'm after a source of acrylic, but don't want to have to buy a whopping 6'x4' sheet... Annoying, as where I used to work, I had access to a decent workshop with lots of offcuts for making projects from...
 17.
They get really P*ssed when there's the slightest issue with stage sound, and have a history of hating festival gigs cos their sound check precedure is (usually) compromised to some degree.
it's that "production line" where they have to set up on risers off stage and do the "sound check" there off stage... the stage techs only get a few minutes between while the compere is talking to actually lay out the kit on stage... too easy to forget a switch or cable in an effects chain in the rush to get things ready...
 18.
Ditto with the not using. Comeon ppl! Everyone has a cheap bass they bought as their first bass, got ripped off coz they didnt know what they were doing and doesnt want to put it on the bay
you didn't get ripped off with the Peavey though... it's very good value. I should know, I've got the exact same model...
 19.
From a female bassist perspective if you close your eyes it all sounds the same, sex goes out the window. Having said that, i could listen to this all day, GAIL ANN DORSEY
is it me, or is David Bowie getting younger???
 20.
Well, I'm not offended and I a woman... Anyway, I do admire that fact that she is 1. a female bass player and 2. Able to play that good even though she and I are the same age. Regardless of her tone and style, I really do think that she a lot better than me and like someone above said, has to to be able to play with such big name musicians... Which is an accomplishment in itself. Are there any other good female bass players?
there's Lydia... the Youtube bassist... http://www.youtube.com/user/kaboesj
 21. careful lads, we have lady members... they have been known to get upset. And they have every reason to as well. Please concentrate on Tal's playing skills... That's a Sadowsky isn't it? I seem to remember they made a big song and dance about the presentation at NAMM... Funny that, cos Joe and Jane Public will just see it as a Fender, after all, only Fender make basses that look like that right???
 22. Other, Peavey Millenium BXP 4 stringer in blue... couple of Encore P-Bass clones, one with flats on, the other strung BEAD Squier Vintage Modified Jazz on order for Xmas...
 23. cool... to put it politely... sex with a stick attached... that looks exactly like the "prototype" for the Squier Vintage Modified Jazz... so it would be kosher for me to stick ashtrays and thumbrest on mine...
 24. I can just see them now... chavs cruisin' along the strip in Cheltenham, engine cutting out under the load from the alternator every time the bass drum note is played...
 25.
I now play in a covers band and we are of a very good standard and do learn the songs 99.9% accurately down to the finest detail where possible. There are alot of bad covers bands around though but to be honest most punters don't seem too bothered but I think becasue we go that extra mile both musically and performance wise people do take notice of us rather than just have us as background music while they drink. Its pretty good fun, we gig at least once a week and thats kinda what its all about - getting out and playing in front of people and actually going home with some money in your back pocket rather than it all being absorbed by the band kitty for the next recording session/t-shirts/posters which is normally the way for originals bands.
I'd far rather listen to a covers band that played with heart and feeling and were tight than had the notes absolutely perfect as per the original record. I've never heard an originals band play their own material note perfect to the record anyway, and if they were note perfect, then I'd suspect they were just playing over backing tapes...
