What setup are you using?
A very basic setup of Cubase & a Lexicon Alpha http://www.lexiconpro.com/product.php?id=7 Works for me. -

I'm afraid that I don't have any experience of that equipment or set up but I think home recording is great. I use a very simple set up for rough demos of things for the band and any other ideas I have knocking around. Good luck, let us know how it goes. -
I played a bit with my daughter's duo last night. They call themselves The Vixens (twins, both with Fox as their surname). They cover a lot of White Stripes and Black Keys but call me in for a few numbers. When the photo was taken I think we were doing Amy Winehouse's 'You know I'm no good'.
wicked, playing as a family must be great. You must be very proud.

best overdrive/distortion pedal for a Orange Bass Terror 500w?
rOB replied to barricades's topic in Effects
If you've got the OBT, wouldn't you be better using a clean boost to get more distortion out of the pre-amp tubes?
That's what I do for an even dirtier tone on the OBT. Although I imagine at three quarters gain, your tone is plenty dirty all ready. I never have mine on more than half -
Taking a solo on Bass, and a Bass playing a tune are two different animals for me.

Lead bass to me isn't necerssarily niggling and solo'ing throuigh out, it having a more prominent bass sound as the focal point. Also the bassist isnt following what the guitarist is doing, like Primus, RATM and so many others.
Hear hear I think its important to distinguish between a lead instrument and an instrument taking a solo. Bass solos often (but not always) fall foul of the issues raised above but most of my favorite rock bands (apologies for my lack of knowledge of other genres) use bass as a prominent instrument that doesn't always play the same as the guitar part.
Not if you define a bassist as someone who sits around their bedroom all day going widdlydiddlydo at 1 000 000 bpm on their fingers. However, he's made more money than most people on this forum by playing a bass. IMO I think that pretty well qualifies him to put "bassist" under "occupation" on his census form...
Well said. Definitely a professional bass player. Think McFly are going to be touring soon as well. PS - I know that final detail because our guitarist asked if we could enter a competition to support them on one of their gigs. As we're an alt-rock band with no desire to play to children, we politely declined.

Welcome to the forum! Love my extender. Not a lot of call for mine at the moment but a great bit of kit if you play in more than one tuning.

Acoustic percussion / wooden block seat type thing

Just to revive this thread, has anyone ever seen or played with one of these great instruments in a rock setting? I'm just thinking as an interesting alternative to a full drum kit? -
I love my rig, it's small, loud and sounds great and even has a cool blue light strip
These are the words you use to start the thread. Sounds to me like you want to keep it. I don't have a car either but I use a folding trolley for my little rig and either walk to gigs (I'm lucky enough to live in the centre of the city) or catch lifts/taxis. Seriously though, if you don't ever use it then it might be more use to someone else. Having said that I played at a jam night a while ago as part of the house band, the organiser said that I didn't need a rig as we'd DI the bass and make sure I had plenty of monitor. Turned out that I could barely hear myself all night and I really struggled. Having an amp next to me would have made for a more enjoyable night.

Not sure if this is relevant but we (originals) recently were emailed by a company who we thought initially were promoters as they offered us a few potential dates for gigs. I went to through the faff of getting the band to commit to a date, they turned out to be an agent and sent us a contract. We get offered more than enough gigs without having to pay for the privilege so I politely told them that we weren't interested. If you're happy with the way things are going for the band then why pay someone to change how things go?

Amazing how people in a room change the sound
soft squidgy bodies wearing fabric clothes
Speak for yourself! I'm definitely not squidgy (I'm really quite pointy) and my clothes are made out of tin foil. Edit:
In the magazine Making Music ages ago I read that Dave Mattacks called the people at gigs MABs - mobile acoustic baffles.
Ha! -
So, for me, how a sound is created matters rather less than if I actually like it. Isn't that the only thing that really matters when it comes to art?
This is it for me, we as musicians create or replicate art. Its up to the artist and listener as to whether what's created is good, not how "realistic" it is. Take abstract paintings as an example, they often doesn't accurately represent any tangible object but can be pleasant/interesting/emotive/valued all the same. In other words, I don't think it matters. Yes we are very used to modern bass sounds and yes they are different to earlier recordings of the instrument but the beauty of technology is that it gives you the option of creating more, if you want to create a very "traditional" bass sound you can, if you want to play Hysteria, you can.
Welcome to the friendliest forum around £100 is more than enough for a home practice amp. It's nearly enough to get a gigging amp!
Nugget speaks sense. We are friendly..... erm..... Hi! Seriously though, second hand is the future for gear on a budget. This might be an odd question but are you sure you need an amp if its just for home practice? Just as a suggestion, what about a headphone amp or a multi effects unit with headphone out? I hardly ever use an amp at home, nearly always plug into a Line6 bass floor pod and head phones. Just a thought
I felt for the band mate who drew the short straw , I've never heard her sound so nervous! Just goes to show that this can be done painlessly.
Out of interest, what did she say? One day I'm probably going to have to fire a band mate and will have no clue what to say.

When both bands were busy it was first come first serve for gigs and I was very up to speed with a diary on my phone. Not that difficult but you've got to be certain when you're free and when you're not. Also if there are tricky band politics you need to tread carefully. I only ever had to bump rehearsals for gigs which was lucky.
