1.
Seems far too cheap. I hate to ask this - but are you sure it's not stolen etc ?
Oo hadn't thought of that. Best to check as much as you can.
  2. sounds like a great deal to me. Even if it needs a bit of work.
  3.
I'd always prioritise my head over my cabs. If your head gets DId, your cabs are just monitoring on stage while your head is what the crowd hears.
I'm with you on this. I think I've played 1 gig ever when my amp wasn't DI'd and maybe 2 or 3 where the cabinet was mic'd as well as a DI. My amp was around £450 (new) and my cabs were around the same amount (SP210 second hand and MAG 210 new)
  4.
Hey Rob which part of Leicester you from. Thanks for the welcome
Erm, I live in the city centre at the moment but I grew up in Melton Mowbray, then lived in Yorkshire for a good few years so kind of a mixture. How about you?

  6. I love Schecters. Good luck finding one.
  7.
Following my pick GAS i',ve just pulled the trigger on one of these babies. The holes are carefully engineered to offer less air resistance wilst strumming thus making me play faster! I'll make some footage once they arrive.
holier than thou. I'll get my coat
  8. Interesting question. I think it depends on the situation, in a wall of distorted guitars the band might want a bass sound to cut through? Side note - I know what you mean by cutting and sitting but isn't it funny that we use these physical words to describe sound.
  9. I very boringly usually default to t-shirt, jeans and boots. For covers I've dressed up smartly (waistcoat & tie etc) on occasion. I'm hoping the next band I'm in has a stronger visual element.

    First Gig

Excellent, good luck. Love those nerves.
  11. Love my OBT. Power, grit, light & small.
I got an attenuator for about £4 sorted the DI problem right out.
Yep, some desks (and sound techs) seem to prefer an attenuated DI signal (I use a -20db). Having said that I've used it without an attenuator in some places with no problems.
We tried the SP212 with the bass terror head at the Moffat bass bash. Ou7shined cranked it all the way up (hahahaha thats how loud it is) to 9 O'clock on the volume and gain and it was rocking and sounding amazing. .... Just because you didnt like the sp cabs folks I wouldnt diss them! They are great cabs....easily portable and quite lightweight. Well worth the money.
I really like my SP210. Powerful, nice round sound to my ears and easy to move around. Admittedly I put mine on an amp stand when it isn't on top of my other cab.
  12. Lots of respect. Bass and drums with no traditional melody instrument but great listening.
  13.
I play with a bunch of liggers & barflys so the question reversed would be more applicable for me
OK I'll bite. What's the longest time from last note to driving home?
  14. Interesting topic. I think my best is about 10 minutes after the venue decided it had to close straight after we finished playing. With respect to Endorka's point: If I'm playing early in the evening then I'll do everything I can to stay and watch the other bands. If I'm playing later then I'll be there in the audience for any other artists. Naive maybe but I've heard some great bands and met some wonderful people that way.
  15. Originals - never, they have gone out of their way and usually paid to see me make the music I love. Helping the local music scene and my ego along the way. Sometimes they even clap. Covers - rarely- they enjoy themselves.
  16.
As someone who uses several rehearsal rooms, one thing I really like to see is stands for the amps - it makes it much easier to hear everything at a sensible level if they're raised and tilted, especially the guitar amps. Yet surprisingly few rehearsal studios have them.
I've never seen this but it'd be a great touch!
  17. Thus might be really obvious but if I was doing this then I'd be checking that all cabs have metal grills. Rooms down here get loads of abuse and a kicked through speaker would be no fun
  18. Welcome to the forum.
  19. Welcome from another Leicester dwelling player
  20.
I think it is a case of if you have to ask, then it doesn't make a lot of difference to you. I've gone back to 21 after 24...and either isn't a deal breaker, IMV.
I'm with you on this. My main bass has 24 and although I only play up the very top on a couple of songs its nice to have that range available.
  21. best of luck finding something else if that's what you decide you want.
  22. Had to get a replacement up to speed when moving away from Leeds a few years ago. The new bassist didn't last long and the band split after another couple of months. Maybe I was less replaceable than I thought. I tried to take a step back from my on/off covers band a month or so ago but was begged/guilted into staying on. Technically I do nothing special though. Lukewarm water between fire and ice perhaps?
  23. Thanks everyone.
Edit: I realise that the key to this is finding a 'decent' drummer. Easier said than done.
I feel this may be the major issue.
A
Those triggers John Otway uses in that clip look interesting. Does anyone know what they're called or who makes them?
Check out Bellowhead and their amazing percussionist.
Wonderful band and great player
I find I really miss the hi-hats and ride cymbal when a cajon is used on its own. One drummer I play with likes to busk with snare, hi-hats and a bass pedal hitting a suitcase, which it all packs inside.
mmm yeah that can sound great. I love the idea that part of your gear is the case for the rest of it.
For a good portable drum kit without compromising the sound, look at the Yamaha Hipgig stuff. Real challenge is still finding the player though.
Yeah they look good.
  24.
A Jam sandwich
I do like jam. This is now an option I will be considering
  25.
It really depends on what you're doing. That sort of setup works really well for quiter acoustic type bands but is not really suited towards anything heavier. The issue is that even if it's not a full drumkit, you'll still need someone to play it. I don't think it would be any easier to find someone who's any good on that type of setup than on the conventional drumkit. If anything it would probably be harder.
mmm, probably true.
sounds like someone kicking a dustbin down a fire escape to me!
It is admittedly a terrible recording. I was just using it as an example of a different set up. Does anyone have any better ideas?
