  1. Im picky about who I play with. I know folk who'll play with anyone just to be in a band, but that's not how I roll. If they aren't decent musicians, take it seriously, then I don't want to be involved otherwise it can be a frustrating mess. A decent drummer and a decent rhyrhm guitarist make it all worthwhile, and allow me to play at my best. I also think cafefully before becoming involved in a band where players can't read music. I wouldn't say that I would never join such a band, but it makes discussions around various aspects of musicality a bit tiresome and as I get older I can't be doing with wasting time and effort on explanations.
  2. Of course theyre so efficient because they pay badly, ruthlessly exploit staff, haven uestionable HR practices, actively resist unionsnin the workplace, use limited packaging sizes to save on time and storage, charge their drivers for the use of the vans they use for their work (imagine the outcry if posties, DPD drivers or dustmen had the cost of their vehicles deducted from their wages?) and shuffle profits around the world to favourable tax regimes. Their unethical behaviour is what makes them so efficient - the two are inextricably dependent upon one another. So I refuse to use them as I have some tiny vestige of a social and environmental conscience, and pay all my taxes without demur. Conversely, it bothers Mrs B not at all and she merrily orders stuff and marvels at how efficiently it appears on the doorstep.
  3. Their customer service has a good rep. Our new PA was missing a few leads, so we contacted them and there was no hassle - just profuse apologies and new leads by 24 hour courier the next day.
  4. We do this track in our band - did it last night in fact - and I spent a while analysing it while learning it. Flea never plays it the same way twice by a long margin, so I came up with my own with is about 2/3 true to the album version, and about 1/3 my own work. A good song to do live, and our guitarists enjoy letting rip at it as well.
  5. Just want to say thanks to you and your colleagues for giving me years of company while working or travelling alone and for keeping me sane during the lockdowns. I don't think people realise how important broadcasters like yourself were in keeping the nation from going doolally last year. Great work, keep it up. And if you feel like mentioning Batch22 rocking the pink torpedo at Roade on Friday then who would I be to say no?
  6. That looks like a good evening out. He's been around the block a few times, probably has a few good tales to tell.
  7. I've been considering it but since both our guitarists have issues with it I've continued staying with a cable.
  8. Planet Rock and my puppy are about the only company I have most days. Darren does a good show, always worth a listen.
  9. Aren't Allparts necks made under licence from Fender? In which case they ought to fit well. Just because another neck is from the same factory does not mean it will be made tk the same dimensions as the Allparts branded item.
  10. Change them when they snap, physically deteriorate, get rattly, or sound dead. If you wipe them down with a microfibre clith after playing a quality set of flats may sound good for decades.
  11. If one wants to get into bass for maximum action with the chicks then no one else comes close.
  12. Oooh, I'm not normally a turdburst fan but that looks really rather lovely.
  13. Although in the programme about Disraeli Gears the other night we had 10 seconds or so of him playing a DB at home
  14. It's Bruce. I wanted Jack but my friends ladmis called Jack and I didn't want the confusion. My last dog was Lemmy.
  15. Theres some very early footage about of Harris playing with just his thumb, Brian Wilson style, so the pick was a slightly later affectation for him. Jack Bruce went both ways (fnaar fnaar!) with fingers and pick, and started out as a double bassist. Brilliant bassist, named my new puppy after him.
  16. That being the case, one wonders which part of the anatomy the blue silks on Hofner flats are supposed to coordinate with? Varicose veins? Haemorrhoids? The wee fellers helmet? Or could you possibly mean the bass body?
  17. I use the Marvel type. Not the most svelte, but very robust. My oldest pair must be over 2 decades old, no dramas in that time.
  18. Probbaly best to use a different cloth to polish your nob, just to be on the safe side.
  19. So, aside from the need to rebuild it to make it play properly it was great?
