  1. Said a quick hello to him at a Janek Gwizdala / Ian Allison workshop in the summer where he was in the audience. He came across as a decent bloke, no different than he is on his videos, and yes he had a few cans of bitter with him.
  2. Thanks to all who organised such a great day, and for everyone who brought along such a wide range of gear. It really was a lot of fun and great to meet so many of you. Really enjoyed the talk with Matt from Montys ... still trying to figure out which P pickup I should buy since they both sounded excellent. Also loved the fact that we had a hall full of us listening to bass loops through different cabs. That was an eye opener given my favourite was an 8".
  3. I've had issues with 2 P basses bought new from a store. One they sorted themselves, they have a good tech team, and the other they managed everything with it going back to Fender for repair .. so worth it in both cases. Having said that, the first place I head in the shop is the second hand section. Got a MIJ P recently, like new, for a really good price and I could try it out before buying.
  4. I use an app called Chordbot Lite. Allows you to plug in chords, time sigs, tempo, basic instruments etc. Pretty basic but good for practice.
  5. Love these MIJs, they are built so well. I just bought a used MIJ International Colour P which I thought was light at 8.3lbs. All the best going forward.
  6. It's on a Scott's Bass Lessons short on YouTube. Not sure how to link a short, but just look for the one with Joe Dart on the thumbnail on the channel. He says they'll be doing all three as Sterlings.
  7. This is great, well done Clarky. All the best Andy.
  8. I have a set of Fender flats that are about 6 years old ... they've out lasted two P basses during that time, and are now on their 3rd P bass.
  9. I've seen several in shops with fairly high action and the saddles quite low. I had concerns about this on the one I purchased, but it was lovely and a shim sorted it nicely.
  10. Michael did an interview with SBL recently, which is on YouTube, where he said the MXR Bass Octave Deluxe has been his goto for the past 10 years.
  11. Bought tickets for Squeeze on Friday. They sold out in a matter of minutes. Just need to wait until Nov 24 for the gig itself.
  12. In the small pocket when wearing jeans. Always have a few picks in there.
  13. Why does the Privacy settings icon continue to be displayed on all pages even after I have confirmed my settings?
  14. Love it with the white.
  15. Carly Simon's Nobody Does It Better for me. It's a superb song, added to the simple fact that when I grew up Roger Moore was Bond. So many of the early songs were great: From Russia, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, Diamonds ... I don't think KD Lang's Surrender (closing theme for Tomorrow Never Dies) has been mentioned, but it would have made a great theme.
  16. Love that colour with the maple board. Tried the right handed version a while back, but it was with rosewood, and that colour cries out for maple. Lovely.
  17. Young MC's Bust a Move.
  18. I tried one of these my local shop and the frets were sharp and would need some work. Other than that the finish was fine, but I didn't find the bass particularly inspiring. I also tried the Mononeon Jazz whilst there, and it was superb. Fit and finish was great, and it comes from the same factory. I guess the signature models get the extra tlc .. I have a JMJ Mustang and that is top quality.
  19. My 2019 MIJ hybrid jazz bass. It's well built, not heavy and came with very nice 'vintage US' pickups. But what edges it for me over my Am pro is the neck. It's more chunky, closer to a U, and it just works for me.
  20. It's also very, very nice. I recall Paul Weller's bassist playing one of these with a pick and it sounded great.
  21. 243
  22. Rob Jones aka the bass thing, played on the first two Wonder Stuff albums. Big influence for me back in the day.
  23. I have a print subscription which it seems they automatically cancelled. Next payment was due in a few days so I'll need to check that they haven't taken that. Was thinking about cancelling my subscription since the content wasn't great, but that was weighed against having a physical magazine rather than a screen for once.
  24. I saw Scouting For Girls a few years ago and was really surprised to see that the bass player had switched from the Fender Jazz he had used before to a Gibson Thunderbird. I immediately thought that it wouldn't work. But it did ... looked good and sounded great.
  25. I caught the last half of this. Superb. Really hope it will be shown again soon.
