1.
Not my generation, never been a fan.Never considered him as a big league player. Flea is not and has never been in the same league as a McCartney, Stanley Clark, Larry Grahm, Rocco Prestia, Chuck Rainy or Willie Weeks etc... I thought it was embarrassing. To his defense it's not a very good vehicle for bass guitar Blue
Flea is a major player in the bass playing community. Wouldn't have thought that was in question. A decent percentage of bassists out there if asked who are the influenced by, flea would be in the list. But yes.... It was a car crash bass solo.
  2. My mate has a gt100 for guitar, and to me it sounds immense. I'm not currently in a band so was thinking about picking one up for home noodling for both bass and guitar. There seems to be a lot of love for it on talkbass, but not a lot on here. So, is anyone out there using it as their main bass effects? I would definitely want an amp sim/cab sim as a base sound but I'm not one for changing amp sims all the time. I accept that they will generally be tuned for guitar use but talkbass chaps say that the basic clean tube amps sound great on bass. Any thoughts anyone?
  3. This. Barf. My bro got me it when I was 16 as my first gigging amp. Huge. And not that loud. Pure rubbish. And looking at it... a rid neck!
  4.
I can't help but think of bass solos as uncomfortably toe-curling events. Even in the very best hands it's like expecting Michael Angelo to produce something beautiful with a JCB and some dynamite. This however, has made me feel slightly less uncomfortable about my own limitations.
I know it's probably a different topic entirely but I find even the most 'musical' of soloing abit limited when played on bass. The flea thing was actually a bit sad for me. I know he's much better than that.
  5. Bass is a terrible solo instrument in my opinion. That sounded like random noodling. Barforama!
  6.
I did think of that too, but I thought the tap-tempo function is a little more involved to get at, isn't it? The Line6 is ideal, 'though. I sent him the link, we'll see. I like the functionality of the Zoom, personally... but for our purposes I think the Line6 is the winner
You don't get a dedicated tap switch.. but you hold the pedal down for two seconds and then tap is engaged. Then you do the same to go back to just being on/off. Would have thought most pedals would be the same. Plus there's a selection of different delays/slicers and tremelos. All in a boss sized pedal.
  7. One of the zoom ms range. I've got the 50g and the 60b. Both do it and are single pedal sized. I just so happen to be selling my ms50g... ahem
  8.
One thing that I did notice about my own pedal is that the rotary edit/bank knob sometimes "jumps" to the next setting "on its own", so yes - not the absolute best experience, but still a pretty negligible issue in practice.
That is quite a big flaw in a live application surely? Even if it only happens once in a blue moon, it's still a worry that is rather not have... at a gig
  9.
How would you set it up?
After reading your set up then it might not quite work.. but it worked perfectly for my needs. I had the bsw first in line. The effect output of the bsw went to loop A of the ls2. Then the dry out of the bsw continues to my fuzz and a few other pedals. That then went into loop B of the ls2. It does mean though that loop A will be silent unless you use the bsw. Then the output of the ls2 goes to amp (Or in my case a preamp pedal). Ls2 left on always. Now the two knobs simply just mix your octave signal with the rest of your sounds. Set to a+b mix. For this to work you need to put a lead into the input of the ls2.. I just used one of those headphone adapters. Before loop A of the ls2 you could pop a fuzz pedal I suppose. But I preceded the octave signal to be super clean and unaffected.
  10.
Any ideas how to make the BSW louder than it is? I've got it on a loop in a boss ls2, so goes, ls2, bsw, envelope filter, big muff and back to ls2. I've got a slightly dirty signal running through it. When I click the octave mode on the bsw it seems to lose a bit of volume. So I want to boost that without effecting the overall volume of the chain. Any ideas would be lovely jubbly!
Can you run the affected output through the ls2 and leave the dry signal alone? That's how I used it, to great effect. The octaver for me is the strong point!
  11.
a) The Uprighter. DSP based, it takes fretted bass input and outputs Double bass through to fretless. Being DSP it might even do arco as well as pizz. possible controls: Thump, Air, Woodiness, Growl
I've always wondered why there's not been a bigger demand for such a thing. It even for a thing that simulates different types of fretted bass. Use a p bass and you can choose to sound like a jazz bass, for example.
  12. After seeing a few new bits and bobs on the market, including the tech21 flyrig, it got me thinking. If I could design a pedal to suit my needs what would it be? And I came up with this: it would be a double switch sized pedal. It would have a sansamp preamp with the same controls as the one on the flyrig but it would be always on. I.e not foot switchable. The first switch would be a fuzz and the 2nd would be an octaver. Fuzz would have a clean blend. It would also have basic compressor (again like on the fly rig) first in the chain, but this could be deactivated with a small slider. Outputs would just be a single 1/4" output but also a parallel di (with cab sim). Oh, and an fx loop placed in between the footswitches and the preamp. Apart from it probably costing about 800 quid and likely being physically impossible in such a small box, I'm quite happy with my design! 😅😅 So for a bit of fun, if you could design your own pedal, what would you have? Realistic or fantasy.... Up to you! 😂😂
  13.
I think its funny that they're playing 'are friends electric' - its my go to for playing with the BSW synth sounds too! If i didn't have the BSW i'd probably want one... EDIT: Or not: http://digitech.com/en/news "The Dirty Robot Stereo Mini-Synth pedal will be available in April 2016 at $187.44 MSRP." Ouch! thats probably about the same in pounds then!
Ouch. Makes the BSW even more a bargain. This admittedly does comes across a bit better though. I really only use my BSW as an octaver and occasional funny noises so I doubt I'll be renewing it.
  14. Sounds very cool. Maybe why the bass synth wah has been discontinued?

    MS60b buzz
It does sound like an overload of some sort but it is there with passive and active basses, lad rash has agreed with that. It takes a fare whack of sound to overload it properly though. This is a back ground sound. Frankly it shouldn't matter if it is passive or active.
I would mention again though I can only notice it when through earphones. It's never been a problem through an amp. Even at low volumes as far I can remember.
  16. I love the way these types of studio jams are recorded. Every note played and every drum hit is crystal clear. No hiding place. Will need to check out the others too. Blue. I love reading your posts. But I do get the impression that you enjoy pushing peoples buttons. As you say it might be a cultural thing.... I don't think it is though! 😂
  17. I've been watching closely the reviews on the new line 6 helix. It seems astounding. However it's serious cash. Total different ball game to the zoom stuff. I have a zoom ms60b and for what I use it for its easily the best value and practical multifx. One boss sized pedal and it covers my preamp, compressor, tuner and noise gate then I use it as a single stomp box (been used as an octaver most recently). Genius idea in my opinion. Apparently the boss gt100 is excellent for bass too. Gets a lot of love on talkbass. I've only ever tried it on guitar and it sounded immense. The helix for me though is the most exciting multifx board I've seen. Really need to get one for an afternoon. However I would feel a bit uneasy having a 1500 quid bit of kit on the floor.
  18. I practice with 3 fingers from day 1. It feels quite natural to me despite the whole 3 into 4 thing. However, it's not rigid. I do think though it's a good habit to get into as it just means you have an extra digit to help out in some of the more difficult patterns. I find that 3 fingers gives me some interesting ghost notes possibilities that I doubt I could play with a rigid 2 finger technique! And oh... Don't dismiss plectrum as the easy option.... I've been playing finger style nearly 20 years and I've only just moved into pick playing. Opens up a lot of doors!
  19. I definitely go through phases but just now it's Chris Cornell for me. I really like Ritchie kotzens voice too. It's got better with age.

    MS60b buzz

I know the sound you mean. I get it on my setup too which ends with an ms60b. It's not there through a real amp but noticeable through earphones and when recorded directly. I've always put it down to it being budget gear. I've got a passive p/j pickup setup soi doubt it's getting overloaded. Have you tried with batteries just incase?
  21.
Awesome tones on that guitar sound! What would you intend controlling the rig with if rack mounted?
Very cool. Thanks for going through it all. As a matter of interest, were you doing all this before Royal Blood got popular or was it them that gave you the inspiration?
  22.
Been thinking on getting a Vintage Microtubes for overdrive, although being just one pedal it cost more than the entire Zoom B3 arsenal om effects
Yup, my fuzz pedal was nearly the same cost as the b3. Thinks it made the difference though.
  23. I've got a Warwick... Different shape but same range. The actual board is perfectly fine. The bags a bit thin and sh*t though. Fine for light gigging. If it's getting flung into the back of a van regularly then I'd look elsewhere. You can feel the knobs through the case, so it's quite vulnerable to a quick bash in the back of the van.
  24. I moved my b3 on because I found the dirt And fuzz not brilliant. Everything else is top class. I've always tried to run a separate dirt pedal anytime I've used a multifx and the b3 was no different. However I really like it's amp Sims on the cleaner end. In fact I use a ms60b as my preamp now.
