1. Never take one... Never regretted it. If you snap a string it literally takes 3 minute to replace it. I've never had a serious issue with a bass (or in fact witnessed a band having issues) so for me it's not worth the extra baggage. Spare lead, spare strings an some Alan keys...you'll be fine.
2.
I couldn't disagree more. A Lakland 5502 has one of the best B strings I've ever heard. Ive played Dingwall,s, Pensa,s, Sadowsky,s. You can get 55s for what... £800. The graphite neck helps, the 35 scale helps, the USA electronics help of course. But to say you can't get a great B string on a budget for me just isn't true. Lakland 55s are world renowned for there b string. What about an SR5.? Amazing B strings.!! My Maruszczyk has an amazingly focused B string. No flop, sounds really tight Both of those are 34". Dont mean to be rude but an I'll informed post BigRed.
Don't think an 800 quid bass can be classed as cheap.
3. Mainly eqing but with a mild colouration towards its particular flavour. .. in fact not always mild. Bare in mind an amp sim pedal almost always has other highly useful functions in it ( di/ multi channels/ gain/ speaker out / ground lft/ tuner out etc) making it a bit of a work horse. In my experience anyway. Funny though... I have a zoom506. .. my first bass pedal...I actually think the fuzz is quite cool!
4. Excellent work. Would you mind going through your process? What did you use to finish the whole neck? Sorry if it's obvious... it's excellent work.. I must say (again)
5. Can't beat the b3 in my opinion. Has all the functionality for home practice but is also very giggable. .. which I did do. I've never tried the digitech but if I needed another multifx of be going straight for a b3.
6.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0dSHb79JLM ?
Ok... I should have said 'when I was a 13 year old' 😂
7. The good thing about pbasses and jbasses isxtgat that fit into most 'looks' at a gig no matter what type of music. I've recently required a cheapo Harley benton jazz... plays really nicely, I would happily gig with this and I have. As an aside... I love watching a gig and seeing someone with meagre gear and playing/sounding great! As much I find it hilarious folk turning up with fancy stuff and playing like 13 year old!
8.
Thanks guys - looks like a TU-3 and Pedaltrain Nano with rechargeable power supply! The Zoom looks brilliant but way too complicated for me.
Trust me... it's a slippery slope these pedal things! 😂😂
9. 2nd hand zoom ms60b. Same price range as a brand new dedicated pedal... the tuning works perfect and it has the added bonus of a million other pedal combinations in a boss sized pedal. Great space saving invention of all time!
10.
If you don't need solo octave, the best cheap one I've used is the Digitech Bass Synth Wah. You used to be able to pick them up for as little as £25 but prices have gone up since they were discontinued!
I agree with this. But yes.. they're discontinued.
11.
Here's something simple, mainly to try some video editing ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_FfZxXcymw&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Very cool! I want to see/hear more!
12. Honestly... if this was even slightly different to the one i have already I'd be snapping it up. Slightly pointless having two identical basses.... can't beleive noones taking this.
13. Hb junior is the only one i found that was isolated outputs... it's only 5 (Or 6 maybe ... can't remember ) though. Saying that... you can easily daisy chain a few of your less noisy pedals to make it up to your 8. Doubt you'll find what your wanting for less than 30 quid.
14. I have this exact one! You're right... it's on the heavier side of things but not too bad. It plays really well! It's been my 'go to' bass for the past few months! I doubt you can get a better bass for less than a tonne!
15. What I might do tonight is try a different DAW... try get some 'lite' versions to see if I still experience the issue... just incase its a reaper thing. I doubt it though!
16. I think I'm more suprised as everything else in the computer is running really well, and the audio is recording really well at lowish buffer (256 giving 5ms latency) Changing the buffer doesnt remove it. I've increased the buffer up to 1048 and the crackles are still there. It doesnt affect every single plugin, but the majority of them, - possibly the more bassy ones (?), but as i said, there's no clipping going on. It affects on the recorded output of the midi, aswell as 'live' takes through the usb controller. Thats why I dont think it will be to do with the actual controller. The CPU is not getting overloaded at all - to me, it just seems to be an issue with the way the midi is getting processed.... - i I'm being totally vague about this too! cheers for the replies though!
17. I'm hoping someone might know the answer why this is happening cos I'm stumped and I can't find anything online specifically on this issue. Quick background... got a 10 year old xp sp2 Pentium D with 2gb ram of with an audiophile 2496 sound card. It was sitting doing nothing for a couple of years but I've recently just cleaned it out and have it a fresh system restore. It runs unbelievably smooth. I've got reaper free trial at the moment which I used to use with no issues. I've tested the system capabilities and recorded 16 tracks of bass and guitar audio and using a load of free vst effects... runs absolutely brilliantly at 24bit 44.1 at 6ms latency .... barely any hiccups.... which is a major plus point! However it really begins to crackle and pop on midi synths... none of these seem to be pushing the cpu too much... it seems to be accented more if I hit the controller keyboard quickly... I've tried it with all the different asio configurations.. but same result. I should mention it also happens when I use the on-screen keyboard so I doubt it's the controller. no audio ins and outs are clipping Any ideas of any settings within reaper (Or anywhere else) that might be causing this? Or could it simply be the pc is just not capable of midi synths? It doesn't have anything else on it.. not even antivirus.... I'm more curious than anything due to the really good performance on audio recording compared to midi! I could record a wee bit of it helps! Thanks in advance. Xx
18. Really like that drive! Very usable!
19. It's all about practice, and being forced to learn things through necessity. It's like sight reading... there's no quick trick. That's why I'm sh*te at both! 😂😂
20.
I know he's a great player, but he's not relevant to me, wrong generation. Blue
Brilliant input!
21. I cut everything below 50hz (I use a graphic EQ on a zoom ms60b) and it clears things up quite alot - I know its counter intuitive to cut bass on a bass guitar, but apparently most frequencies under 30hz are inaudible anyway Everything else is normally pretty flat though.
22. It might just be a better bridge due to its quality rather than the mass?
23.
Bombskare not my cup of tea I'm afraid altho i can appreciate they are good at what they do. Preferred The Caffreys to be honest. Girwoods was my local 7 nights a week in my early years and then down Heathery bar on Fri/Sat. Used to play with Tam in Gypsies Kiss many moons ago. Gem of a guy and fantastic front man. Crossfire were headlining the Rock the Valley festival last weekend i believe. Moved up to Biggar in 90's so kind of drifted away from it. Occasionally drop in to see what's changed. Not a lot really LOL Dave
Brilliant! Alex the bassist from crossfire without realising probably showed me alot more about bass than he or I realised. Very melodic but also has a constant rhythm to his playing. They know each others playing inside out though so they know what they're doing. I've shared many a stage with bombskare... my old band borrowed their horn section lots of times.. always great fun. Genuinely lovely guys who live and breath music. Not just ska!
24.
That's the very band. Where abouts are you based. Dave
I think I've seen crossfire about 40 times!! I was a girwoods regular for a long time!
25. Strangely nothing worked.... until I tried the first link again and it worked. I'm happy now! Cheers guys
