1. ah good. Im not alone! Just for balance i should mention there are a few reviews that are very good who stick to a loop or atleast basic noodling. So i might have been stretching it by saying ALL reviews are like this! A cup of tea is the solution to everything! hehe Fraser
2. This really annoys me about any youtube DIY review about any type of bass equipment. Whether its a pedal, an amp or a bass, they always seem to have the urge to start slapping. Quite often really badly too! If you're doing a review, surely the majority of viewers will be finger players or plectrum players so why not review it like that! The amount of pedal reviews I;ve watched that have a guy in a bedroom slapping thinkin he's mark king, but it sounds pish.... and puts me off the pedal! They almost always have that sound of sparkly strings through a practice amp too! Terrible! Just a pet hate! Needed to get it out there! haha
3. The behringer DI seems to get a lot of love on this forum. I'm far from being a brand snob - I own loads of behringer stuff, and in fact iv got a behinger compressor on my board. But, For some reason that wee BDI21 thing doesnt fill me with confidence. At that price it might be worth a punt, but I do think that the £30-40 would be better put towards a 'better branded' one. I could be totally wrong though (and from the feedback from BC forumites, I probably am).
4. Well you all more or less confirmed what I was thinking. This is a perfectly viable solution. I'm currently building my pedal board up, so getting a preamp pedal will more than likely be last on the shopping list but I'l more than likely get a BDDI (or If im being cheap a hartke bass attack). I dont have loads of effects either, just some fuzz, compression and and bass synth wah. I suppose the object of the exercise for me is not to get a world class tone from it, its more to do with getting a more familiar tone that my effects will react similar to, no matter what kind of backline is supplied. Cheers for the input lads!
5. Hi guys, I'v always wondered about this. The majority of my gigs are smallish, multi-changeover gigs. The usual gig night that we all know about. The vast majority of my gigs I dont use my amp. At Practice I do use my own amp, so over the years I have decided its easier just to put up with what we're given for back line. The problem with that is of course each gig I turn up to, I will sound different depending on the amp, room, crowd etc. My question is, do any of you lot use a preamp pedal as your main tone source and bypass the supplied amp's preamp? Using it as a power amp really? That will also give you a high quality DI. I know som of you will pipe in and say that I shouldnt be doing gigs without my own gear etc, but to be honest, I cant be arsed taking my rig to every gig; I want to keep things as simple as possible (Just like I have done for 15 years). The only reason I bring this up is because I've recently needed the use of a few effects (which I've done without my whole gigging life) and now that I have a pedal board, I might as well go out and get myself a nice preamp/DI pedal! I'm not really looking for reccomendations as to what pedal to get (I have my own preferences for that), I'm more keen on finding out your experiences of doing this. And if its worth the expenditure. Will I get a more familiar sound each time I gig? Or is it just another pedal to fiddle with?
6. I have a Zoom r16 multitracker/audio interface/control surface up for sale. Its the perfect cheap way to get 8 independant tracks recorded at the same time. Perfect for getting half decent recordings of gigs and practices. I recorded a load of practices. Had it set up with mics within ten minutes, and just hit record. Great results, lots of fun, and pretty useful too! Mine is in decent condition. Its lightly scratched when you look up close, and one of the led lights intermittently stops working. Its the bottom one of five green lights so its probably always been like that and I've only just recently noticed! Mine comes with an 8gb card, power supply and usb cable. Dont have original box or manual (but this is easily downloadable). £170 plus postage. Based in Glasgow.
7.
With hard case i want 200 ono
alrighty matey.... would you sell without hardcase? If so.. what price would you do delivered? Uk delivery. Fraser
8. The theory behind this I fully understand. And its fair to say most of us probably play these 'sexy' notes ALOT. But for me, the difference between me, and players like Scott is the vibrato, and the note-length-choice. ITs a pleasure to listen to, and its something I aspire to! Such a small thing, but IMO, takes a bass line to the next level!
9. Heres a wee slap bass groove that I stumbled across one night. I'm more of a keen hobbyist when it comes to slap, so my technique might not be top notch, but I thought I'd post it anyway, cos I thinks its quite a cool wee idea! Plus I havent posted anything constructive here, so thought I'd start with this! 10. Hi folks, hopefully someone knows the answer to this, or would know where to find it. Basically I've got the chace to pick one of these cabs up on the super cheap. I know its a 4 ohm cab so I wont be able to run it along side my usual 1x15 cab as it stands. The question is, can the speakers inside be rewired to give 8 ohms? What impedance are the speakers seperately? I'm going to get the cab anyway, but I dont see it being a whole lot of use unless I can add it to my existing setup! any info appreciated. Fraser
11. Great review. I've been looking at one of these for a while as I'd love to record band practices when working on new tunes, and the mobile phone record function isnt cutting it! haha Plus, I've always wanted to get out and actually record a few of my mates bands playing, but my recording rig is based round the house pc. The fact that the R16 can then easily transfer the tracks across to Reaper to allow me to muck about is outstanding! I really can't find a negative to this thing! Always good to read another positive review though. Cheers fraser
12. Hi folks, hopefully someone can determine whether the problem I've got with this head is worth fixing or not. at practice tonight, within about 5 minutes of turning it on, the output stopped working. there is a signal getting through it, and the meter responds to the signal, but aboslutely nothing come out of the speaker out. We tried different leads and a different cab, and absolutely nothing. Not even some crackling. Doing a search on this forum suggests that it might be the power transistor? I haven't a clue about these things, so I've no idea whether this is worth getting fixed, or should I just say goodbye to it? Its about 3 years old so well outwith the warranty. I dont know whether this is related, but over the past 6 months, the preamp section has been gettin very crackly, and when turning the 'input' knob it would lose signal. I would need to wiggle the knob about until I got full signal again. As I said though, I dont know whether this is related beacuse this bigger problem seems to be more of the power stage. Any ideas what I should do? thanks in advance Fraser
13. +1 to everyone. I have never ever used it at a gig. I like mucking about with it at practice and things, but pretty useless IMO. I wonder why they still insist on adding it to there amps. Something like a built in compressor would be far more useful!
14. There we go. Although I removed the OD pedal and changed it with a phaser. Less noisy, and much more "boosty". its all laid out in an old camera case. fits perfectly. Hopefully I'l never need an extra pedal! :-p

My rig

Hi folks. I've been using this forum for a few weeks now as a resource for info about all things bass, and I thought it was about time to sign up and log on! so hello! Just thought I'd start by showing you all my rig. Its far from being top end gear, but I'm pretty happy with the sounds I get from it. The bass is just a Fender Areodyne Jazz bass, the head is an ashdown evo2 300 and the cab is a behringer ba15. The bass is my ideal bass, and I doubt i'l be changing/upgrading any time soon. The head is something I may be changing pretty soon, and the cab is something I have recently broke down and condensed into a smaller cab. I quite like how this photo turned out too!
16. I really like that stingray without the P/G!
