1. £80 posted with hard case. £60 posted without. This is a jazz bass copy. Probably 90's with pretty standard fittings for this standard of bass. Its an ok player, could be doing with a set up and new strings but perfectly playable. the pots are a touch crackly but work. Its got some gaffa tape stuck to it, which would come off with the right cleaning products, and theres some wear and tear as you'd expect. Ideal for a starter bass, or for a guitarist who wants one for home recording. I've been using it basically as a 2nd bass, keeping it at home to learn bass lines, and for just general mucking about with. The hard case cost me £50 a few months ago. Its in perfect condition with a key. I would do that alone for £30 posted. I would happily have lkept this, but since I have another bass on its way, its got to go. 2. ACtually.... after further digging, the price seems to be pretty normal. Not as good a bargain as the seller suggests!. Fraser
3. http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/washburn-status-1000/1002086689 Looks pretty cool to me!
4. I've only ever audtioned for 2 bands, and got in both. I would say though I've depped in a number of bands over the past 3 years, and each have said that they may need me for future dates, but none have came my way! Also, the studio guy I used to do a bit of session work for has stopped calling me, so I'm taking that as rejection! haha. Its crap innit!
5.
Think I'm gonna have to give up and move mine on....... I understand it better now, but it's just too involved for me, too many different parameters and layers to go into, it just seems to take far too long to adjust anything and find the sound I want. Might get a B3 instead.
Its quite bizarre actually, beacuse I'm finding it really easy to make adjustments on the fly. Any effect can be altered and saved within 3-4 button presses/knob turn. Saying that I dont really use it for any mental effects, and any changes i make at gigs are generally just mix balance changes or a slight change in EQ. You can probably tell, I'm still loving mine!
6. cool. I'l give it a go without the cabs connected. A real pain in the arse though, just recently got it to replace my other amp which kept breaking! haha.
7. I've got an hatrke lh500. I gets used maximum once a week. When I got it at first (used) I clocked the start up time at about 10 seconds ie from turning it on to getting sound from it. Now its about 2 minutes. It always turns on, and it always works perfectly fine after this delay. Anyone else got this issue? Anyone got an idea whether its something I should worry about?
8. just get an on/off pedal for the octaver built in to the amp. You may need to alter a few bits you play, but its a cheap way of getting a bit of meat into your playing!
9. yeah, the actual band setup? sounds good, pretty cheesy, but extremely tight. Singer is great too!
10. Very Nice! Nice indeed! struggled to hear the BT, but I got the Jist of it. When you're playing over C minor, whats going through your head, are you thinking of shapes, scales or something completely different?
11. I was completely bamboozled for the first few hours, but once I got passed that I'm really quite happy with the setting up.

Zoom 708ii

the zoom b9.1ut has a jaco setting, which although isnt exactly right I think its as close as you're going to get via cheapish effects. I quite like it.
13.
Arrived this morning, spent until now messing around with it. As with all of these types of untits that I've used so far all of the built in patches are flashy and show-offy. They do sound nice and they certainly show of what the unit can do. I'm really liking some of the amp models/flavours through headphones but the 4 seperate swithes are what makes it really cool, rather than changing the patches you can turn on/off the compressor, preamp, and 2 modulation sections. This I really like, and makes the unit operate more like a proper, manual pedalboard. I am finding some of the patches quite noisy but this is through my mixer and headphones, I imagine this will disappear through an amp. There is more than sound quality to think about though. The sheer number of inputs and outputs is staggering and useful. The tuner is brilliant and the whole thing is very solidly built. Good so far. And I think anyone nitpiking needs to think about the price. Where I am, this thing is cheaper than some pedalboards. As in, pieces of wood with some velcro on top.
Just a wee hint for that 4 pedal thing..... You can actually easil make it a 6 pedal thing, as you can make the 3 function buttons can be assigned to 'compressor'' or 'EQ' or something else thats not already designated to the main 4 pedals. I dont really have the need for any tap delay, so the way I've got my patches set up is pedal 1 - wah, pedal 2 - preamp, pedal 3 chorus, pedal 4 - random reverb thing), function pedal 1 - mute (tuner), function pedal 2 - manual function pedal 3 - compressor. Quite handy actually!
14.
Just come across another bag option, Thomann's own which they are packaging as part of their b9.1ut bundle: http://www.thomann.d...t_pedal_bag.htm
Excellent! I might just go for that one!
15.
Ok, so I bought one.
good lad! Don't shout at me if you don't like it though! haha

SOLD.

Perfect condition. Only used at 13 gigs, and looked after. Looks brand spanking new. I've went to multiFX so this is redundant. Its absolutely incredible but I know fine well I'l never use it again whilst I've got my multiFX on the go. Not alot of money for such a great pedal. £42 posted.

18.
So I'm considering one as a 'sound like me' solution for when I'm not using my amp. I've just put a board together with a boost, comp, od, tuner and preamp all of good quality but it's big, heavy and just feels like overkill. What are the 'normal' effects like on the Zoom such as the overdrive and compressor? I don't really ever see a use for the multiple voice filters or even much of the amp/cab modelling. What I'm more interested in is the sound quality, noise levels of the outputs and the like. For instance, how good is the tuner? I'm close to biting, I'm just worried that I'll play about with it for an hour at home, think it's really shiny and cool and then never use it again. And even at £99 it's too expensive for that. Any advice people could give would be fantastic.
I've only recently done the same thing as you. Built up a basic but decent pedal board. The instant problem I had was that for carrying about the board I had, it only really did 4 sounds.... and for me it was a touch overkill. I took a punt on the zoom, and I've now sold almost all my seperates! That kinda gives you the idea of how much I like it. I'l go through your points for you, and my opinions on them. OD: So far I've dialled in one OD sound, which sounds pretty nice. I've set the expression pedal as a a blend. ie fully off, is a complete clean tone, full on is about 80% gain. There is a constant clean line all the way through, so it doesnt lose any bottom end. I've found that depending on what amp I've been using the OD would react differently (as you'd expect) so I can choose what amount of OD I use, just at the touch of my foot! I've also got the Z-pedal to take it up to 100% gain, so I've got access to super high gain really easily too. compressor: I only really use compressor lightly, and I've found it super quiet. Ofcourse there is the noise reduction on (which I have constantly on) so I find pretty much no noise from the compressor. I'm sure i'd get a bit of noise if I squashed it a bit more, but with the noise suppressor, I bet it would still be perfectly usable. Tuner: Its ok. Its pretty quick to get the signal, but I'm not convinced its as accurate as my Tu-2. I've got no proof of that though. It can be easily set with bypass, or as a mute. Noise levels : On my old pedal board I had some Od and some fuzz, both would get alot of hiss. That is a thing of the past. I find the noise reduction very organic, and does the job brilliantly well. I dont need to turn the volume down, or turn the fuzz off mid song. Just keep it on and let the zoom do the hard work. EQ: Any where I've gone I've set the amp pretty much all at 12oclock and just use the EQ built in to the zoom. Really straight forward to use it like this, and any changes you want to save is literally a double click of a button. Autowah etc : I'm not finding the auto wah as good as my digitech synth wah, I'm finding it hard to get a decent all round sound, but I'm sure I'l nail it. Dont know if that would be a big deal for you. I'm the same with you I never really feel the need to use amp sims and I've not used the amp sims and cabinet sims at all so far, but I might try it out next time I'm recording. Personally for £100, I dont see you losing money on it, even if you sell it a month later!
19.
It might be for the wannabies but it's certainly not for Billy himself - most people who play with low actions would really struggle with Billys basses as he sets his action pretty high.
heres the video here actually. I fully accept that its 20 years old, so he may have changed since then, but its pretty clear from the video that his action is pretty low. (4 minutes in). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhAiZxYJDWk
20.
Interestingly, Billy Sheehan doesn't have a particularly low action. I however do
Really? I've got a video of him from early 90's that says he basically sets the action as low as it goes without too much rattling. There will no doubt be plenty bassists out there with lower action than him, but I would have said that he has a pretty low action. Saying that, the tape is 20 + years old so possibly he has changed since then. Fraser
21. I think you might be right. I started playing stuff such as dream theater, vai, extreme, Mr big for the first few years, I then moved onto very much more funkier pop style playing. Alot less guitar style riffs and a lot less fast runs. I've been practicing recently for a rock gig (covers of the aformentioned bands) and although I can play the notes comfortably, I wonder what toll 14 years of gigging this style of music would have had on my digits!
22. When I started playing 14 years ago I wanted a bass with a low action, like a guitar. I wanted fretting notes as light as using a laptop keyboard. 5 years ago, when I got my current bass, the first thing I did was get the action as low as possible. I've just realised though, over the past year or two, I've been raising the action, bit by bit. And recently I've just bought a cheapo 2nd bass, the high action on that really gives me the chance to dig down on a note, and play notes differently to what I've always been used to. Is this me becoming mature on a bass? Is super-low action just for the billy sheehan wannabies (which I was when i started)? and was I simply wrong all those years looking for a super low action bass? I'm quite interested to hear all your views on this. My bass right now is set up so nicely for me, even although I doubt I could have played it 10 years ago!I bet if another basschatter tried it, they may think its a rubbish bass, but I can still play fast (well fast enough for my uses) and it sounds good!
