CAN'T SEE MY FRET MARKERS
ShergoldSnickers replied to blunderthumbs's topic in Repairs and Technical
I'm having some of these incorporated into a bass build. On an existing bass it would involve drilling the right diameter holes to the correct depth, fixing in and possibly a poly finish respray for the neck. Should be a simple job for a luthier, and far less expensive than LEDs. -
NOT GREAT NEW BASS DAY - EBMM Ray HH Matching Headstock
ShergoldSnickers replied to Musicman20's topic in Bass Guitars
Whatever you do Gareth, I hope you get what it takes to make you completely happy. I really admire your patience - and your unflappable faith in the basses you've decided to work with. We all want a very happy ending for you. Anyone bought the film rights to this story yet? Probably need to make it a trilogy though. -
OK a suitable backing track has been downloaded. I'll warn you that no attempt will be made to follow any existing melody. Or any melody whatsoever come to that. It will be an off the cuff pass through, and I'll have a go this weekend time permitting.
-
I'm almost tempted to have a go myself. I know what it would sound like though. Splendid effort there Nige by the way, and the early gear grinding soon gave way to some smooth changes.

OK... I'll bite. Fear of Bicycles on Soundcloud 'Acht' is probably the most accessible. . It is all improvised from the off and what you get is what you get. Unfortunately. 'The five minutes' was all done without any of us hearing what had already been put down so we were working blind, and is the only one we have done non-live together as it were. The best bit is the cat purr near the beginning. Oh we enjoy doing it so stop complaining.

Gaffer Tape That Actually Works?
ShergoldSnickers replied to discreet's topic in Accessories and Misc
It's Fumps and he works for a company called Everbuild that does 'Jaffa' tape - it's orange and sticks like no other gaffa tape or similar that I've ever used. -
Do you know... I just love Basschat. Here I am minding my own business and I keep stumbling upon fantastic music. In the past week alone: 1. This two track release from Dresden 2. Rattlin' Bone's Karena Kelly featuring Clarky 3. Kit Richardson's Submission Chords EP featuring silddx. Bleedin' marvellous it is.

NCD: I am a happy chappy... Barefaced content
Haha! I have now decided I no longer have Streamliner GAS coz I'm waiting on the MB500 to show up later this week. It'll last, oooh, about a week, two tops
Oooooo.... be interested to see what you think when it arrives. -
Leaving distribution boards behind afterwards is my downfall. The local electrical shop knows me by name.
Well my Streamliner 9 is sat on top of my 2 new Compacts (turned up yesterday), and i'll agree, it does sound very nice 2 weeks till my next gig though
Another one for our little black book Merton. -
If I'd played on this you wouldn't be able to shut me up. You can be justifiably very proud of this - great, great tone and feel on the bass and it just slots into the track like..... well you know those Inca walls made of huge great solid blocks of stone that you can't get a ciggy paper between? Well like that.

I don't know where to begin. I'll try. I've seen this quote: "Kit Richardson begins singing, and my jaw drops". OK I can second that, but it's more than that. My guard drops. She caresses my folded arms of aural defensiveness and prizes them open until I'm immersed in her world. It's tender, it's emotional, it's subtle, delicate and yet behind this there is the power to dispatch you with a stiletto touch. Some of this controlled power is from the songwriting ability of Kit herself, but much comes from the exquisitely crafted mix and playing. It's effortless. I can concentrate on the music - the message. I can't say that about too many recordings I've heard in my time. If Kit doesn't continue to work with Silddx and 51m0n, she needs her head examining, they do great things together.
The more I read your comments on the RH450 and your amp preferences the more I think I need a Streamliner. Stop it
We need to make him stop it. I still have dreams about Wot's Streamliner sat on my cab. -
Depressing things your bandmates say.
ShergoldSnickers replied to arthurhenry's topic in General Discussion
"Hired some pyrotechnics"? Do you have to put the flash and the smoke back inside before you return them?
You surround the used pyro 'bomb' with non-smokers. All the smoke then congregates around them. Turn on the special vacuum pump and away you go. The flash is more difficult. It requires 30+ all with lighters and mirrors, reflecting the light onto the top of the used bomb. Accuracy is essential, as any stray light gives a leakage path. Whip a fresh top back on, and screw it down. Easy. -

"I've hired some pyrotechnics" - percussion player in former band. Yep, it's a great idea to hire pyrotechnics for a venue with a low ceiling. BANG... FLASH.... KERBOOM..... Are the audience enjoying the sight of a band obscured by smoke from the knees up as much as I'm enjoying lungfulls of the said smoke? I can laugh now... then all I could do was turn my lungs out. -
am i the only one who thinks Bjork is a quirky hottie..?
Certainly not conventionally good looking but there is an air of sensuality that does something for me. I get the latter from Annie Lennox and Kylie Minogue as well. I'd better stop there.

I really can't think how this track could possibly be improved. Full of subtlety and musicianship. I actually like her voice but can see why many don't though.
where can i get a barefaced cabs in London?
Unless it's a secondhand sale... you can't as they don't sell though independent retail outlets. You need to contact Alex at Barefaced. Once he knows what type of music, styles etc you play, then he'll be able to advise you as to which cab (if any) might suit. They do a scheme whereby if you buy a cab, and within one month decide it's not for you, you get your money back minus a fee for return shipping, £15 or £25 depending on cab size.

☝ What he said, but that is going to be some stretch to the budget. It will however give a proper stereo image of what's going on in the room and is high quality. Don't know where I'd be without mine.

http://soundcloud.com/fear-of-bicycles I didn't do the classifications. Any resemblance to jazz is purely illusionary. Or possibly disillusionary.

Interesting looking Wilson
ShergoldSnickers replied to Mr. Foxen's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
My first bass was a Wilson Rapier - a later model than this one, having independent tone and volume for each pickup, and they'd ditched the oblong metal pickup plate and fitted an updated bridge design by this time. It suffered from piledriver neck dive but was very easy to play with a thin fast neck. Turned it fretless by knocking the frets out using a screwdriver blade and a shoe heel. White plastic card in the fret slots, a quick sand..... it worked far better than it should have. Cheap and cheerful and surprisingly playable for the money. If anyone's going to bid, get detailed photos of the neck pocket area and verify there are no cracks in the body wood. A bit of a weak point. -
I managed to cook an Eden WT550 a while back - not the Eden's fault - and Liz the techie I use was very complementary about the build quality, the circuitry and general layout of everything. She's a very picky about this sort of thing and doesn't hold back criticism on anything that looks inferior in her eyes. It was easy to fix as well. As far as sound and gigability go... I love it.

As posted in the other thread covering this: I know the body shape could vary a bit - the horns in particular - but the body shape just looks a little mis-shapen compared with other examples I've owned and seen. There should be a guard covering the lower horn, and I'd want the plastic ash-tray bridge cover. I'd need a really good look at it before I bought, as from the photos it just doesn't look 'right'. Example here for comparison.
