It looks like the deal may have gone but never mind. I had a thought with that cab 1200W and my amp in bridged mono 1450W peak that would be a beast, I know it 250W over but would I ever get to the point of damage?
Damage? Only to the surrounding infrastructure. Bad news if that has gone, I have paid money to see that cranked up.
Of course.
Cheers Wayne. It's the sort of rig I'd love to terrorise punters with... if only I had the back that I had in my youth. Or any muscles really.

Any chance of some vid/sound clips of the SVT 2 Pro and the GK 412 Neo in action Wayne when you're ready? On paper that looks like a combination to turn concrete to dust.
+1 on the Super Twelve, Frank. Although I can't help wondering if two Midgets will do the same thing, or whether having the single enclosure of the Super12 adds something more... Geoff
Interesting thought.... The Super12 has more internal volume than two Midgets, so I'd expect some differences in the low end, with more extension from the Super12. The figures are here, and bear this out. There is a dual Midget set of figures to compare with the Super12. Click the 'Barefaced Technical Specs' link under the 'Technical Information' heading.

My Band's new webpage featuring recordings...
What cabs have people been using it with? I have it through an Ampeg 1x15 at home at low volumes, but its probably gonna go through the Marshall 2x15 I've been gigging with lately for anything else. Been playing some guitar through it with a Marshall 4x12 at home too and that's sounding pretty lovely!
I first ran it with a home made cab built during woodwork sessions at school. It was something like 3' 6" high by 2'6" wide by 18" deep, with a slot port at the bottom. It was lined with an old eiderdown and the cab had to be taken apart to move it on my own. The cab contained a single 18" Fane speaker, but I managed I to get surprising amounts of top out of it. Despite being thrown together without any calculations or even the slightest nod to proper loading, it sounded pretty decent. After that it was used with an SAI 2 x 15 cab that was only marginally better, but had the advantage of being smaller and lighter. I later acquired a Fender Dual Showman cab and stuffed it with a couple of McKenzie C15 75w bass drivers, again without really knowing what I was doing. Another decent result.

Why's PC demo recording still so problematic?
ShergoldSnickers replied to lanark's topic in Recording
In part it's due to the circle of expanding possibilities. Computers become more powerful and then programmers take advantage, so computers have to become more powerful again. And so on. The increase in recording bit rate seen over the years puts more stress on hard disk and processor performance, the demands of ever more realistic or powerful plug-ins and effects all take their toll, and it adds up. Oh bugger I think 51m0n is about to answer and show me up. -
OK here goes with some examples. First track recorded live in a rehearsal room with all the attendant spill, and with an ibo percussion track overdub. Recorded on a Korg D888, dropped into Garageband without any prior processing on the Korg and taken from there. The percussion went through the Tascam via a Rode NT4. I should add that we are a band that improvises without preparation so you have been warned. The Price of Vincent The second track. The core of this was recorded on the Korg, with a few overdubs done later via the Tascam, rather than the single overdub as in the track above. This was all brought into Logic Express and taken from there. The Lone Stranger
Are you doing any recording straight into it (like in a studio) or are you transferring files from a portable device that you record onto? Not being nosey, well I am really but I want to get as much knowledge as to how these things are done before I go spending money and regretting it. I'm trying to get my head around it all so that I can make the best decision without it costing a fortune. Oggy
I've done both Oggy. We generally record onto a Korg D888 8-track digital recorder, and then just drag and drop the WAV files into Logic. 4 mics on the kit - a Rode NT4 stereo for the overhead, a CAD m179 placed to reinforce the snare and hi-hat, and an AKG D112 for the bass drum. Other instruments are either mic'd or go straight in. It seems to work. We have also built things up in parts and with overdubs going straight into Logic Express via a USB device – a simple but great sounding stereo Tascam US-122 Audio/midi module. Either way works though. If you like I can dig out an example of each method and that would give you an idea of what's possible.

Having just made the transition from Garageband to Logic Express, the real bonus is being able to use your old GarageBand files, including any sound packs you may have bought. Songs import over with all settings pretty much as they should be. Garageband is actually quite powerful once you start clocking a few workarounds that enable quite sophisticated things to be done, but I have to say that Logic Express is in a different league altogether in terms of flexibility and workflow automation. And I've only scratched the surface so far. Chuffed to bits with it.
I'm no expert on this era, but I believe many of those devices used EF86 or similar pentode valves for the pre-amp stage. You can still find EF86's, maybe try making a pedal out of it (or having one made)? Not sure it's been done yet.
Interesting..... thanks for that escholl. I'll sometimes use the hi-fi for practising - the speakers are an elderly pair of Epos ES14s, are built like battleships and will go reasonably loud without stress.

When I lived with my parents, we used to have one of those old Philips reel to reel tape recorders with the green 'Magic Eye' recording level light. It was all valve driven and dated from the sixties. There was a DIN socket on the side for plugging in an extra microphone so I wired up a cable with a DIN plug, switched it on and.... out flowed a fantastic angry overdriven sound. I could really use that sound in pedal form. That was my first practice amp.

This is why I took up the double bass (new recording)
ShergoldSnickers replied to Bilbo's topic in Recording
Its not false modesty, mate. I love the performance overall but I find my own playing on it is not write as 'on' as I want it to be. It is, despite my reservations, one of the most 'convincing' jazz pieces I have for my 'cv'.
Fair do's, but I still think you are being overcritical... but then again self-criticism is the driving force if used positively. It's certainly a bit more than convincing to my ears Bilbo. Love it, love it, love it. -
Why isn't oak used more for guitars ??
ShergoldSnickers replied to far0n's topic in General Discussion
My mate's infamous 'Table Bass' Made from an oak table, the sides hollowed out to save weight. There's even a fork hidden in it somewhere should anyone go delving inside, just to emphasise the domestic origins. -
Just got, and breaking in a Super 12 T to go with the MB LM Tube (500). Sounded good when fired up for the first time and weighs next to nothing. RESULT! EDIT: ...and having fired it up at rehearsal last night with the L2500..........LUVERLY Weighs next to nothing, solid as #### and sounds marvellous. It was just sitting beautifully with everything else. Nice solid bass down to the lob Bb (we detune a semitone) but with a nice brightness to round things out from the horn. Didn't bother with any of the effects/ bits & bobs I have been using front end, just L2500>LMT>S12T linked with OBBM cables
There is a solidity to the sound that I've never had with cabs from any other manufacturer. It's an immediate and enveloping sound - it sounds like it's right next to you even when its plonked 15 feet away. And it gets better as the driver suspension loosens up a bit as it settles in. I've always had this slightly nebulous 'sounds like I'm playing in the next room' quality previously and put it down to the bass. Whilst the bass isn't exactly the world's best sounding compared with some modern designs, its capable of real character and this cab brings it out.
Yup. Thanks :-) P.S. I ordered the GT-10B today too. Yay
Got one of those and love it. Worth spending some time just tweaking the sounds, as it's quick and easy to do. Watch out for the bright LEDs - a bit eye searing in a dark room. It's possible to get some really good distortion sounds but with plenty of proper bass end. The sub-octave works really well and some of the presets are just.... well, barking mad - you wouldn't believe it's a bass feeding in. Also got some Klipsch in-ear phones. Excellent again.

Couple of Midget -Ts with a Dubster might be able to replace the entire set of Peavy speakers. Edit: Charic posted just before me and his post wasn't there when I did mine. More good suggestions.

This is why I took up the double bass (new recording)
ShergoldSnickers replied to Bilbo's topic in Recording
It's no good... I'm going to have to ring the Cohen Brothers and tell them I've found a title track that needs a film producing for it. I can hear this as the credits roll by for some really classy Oscar fodder. Quietly proud... Yer daft bugger – it's much better than that and you know it. -
Don't drink anything other than straight fruit juice or water. When I played in bands that had a fixed set with numbers all meticulously worked out, I'd be far more nervous than I am now – playing in an improvising band that doesn't have the first idea of what we are going to do until we get up there. Seems like it should be the other way round but it isn't.

The Things They Say To Annoy Us.
ShergoldSnickers replied to Pete Academy's topic in General Discussion
"Somebody's nicked yer frets... ha...ha" "And yet it still has more frets than you have brain cells" – points to zero fret near headstock. "You've lost a couple of strings mate... ha...ha" "And I've also just lost the bet that my will to live would last the evening" "How can you just go up there and all make it up as you go along?" "I know... we've got a bleedin' nerve eh?" The last one's the truth.
