If you listen to a cab's paper cones they cant get up that high and so act as a nice filter removing the poop....... ..................Sit back and bask in the glory of your perfectly tracked and mix bass part. Yes its a little more work, but it provides a lot more control, and a massively improved final result.
The perfect reply really. Not only what to do, but why you are doing it, and all presented in easy steps. Excellent.
 2.
This man speaks the truth!
You're fooling no-one. That's been coated with glue and then had a small furry mammal rolled on it.
 3.
Aww now i look at the pics i'm really gutted i could'nt make it. although i would have felt like a bit of a cheat as i'm not really at the same level of playing as some of you guys, but looks like a very sleek well organised event. But to make up i bought a new Bass this weekend as i hope this makes it all ok ?!?
Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooo what is it? We will be needing pictures. Don't worry about your playing level. I don't worry about mine. In fact I don't worry about mine far too much. Everyone is really helpful at these bashes I've found, and asking questions about gear, playing tips, how to learn this that or the other is all part of it. Next time I might be a bit more adventurous and try a few more basses out and ask some more questions. Being a bash virgin I was a little reticent. Things I should have done: Asked Keith for a go on his delicious upright bass. Asked retroman for a go on the black Rick. Tasty. Try out a few of the high end basses - just to see. Kidnapped Scott and Geoff and demanded lessons in exchange for release.
 4.
Thanks to Keith - I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I feel I need to get myself a grown-up bass now - my Musicmaster felt very small after trying all the great basses there. Happy to help out next year. Highlight for me was Michael's Promethean. Regards, Martin
I really enjoyed having a tinker on your Musicmaster - thanks for that Martin.
 5.
I thought it was the best Yor'Bash to date. Thank you Keith for organizing a great event and for uniquely combining origami with the raffle! I took a few snaps too, and here they are Phil
Some cracking photos there Phil. I now feel I need to add that I've only had my camera for three weeks.
 6.
The chap ably assisting Scott was geoffbassist (Chalmers).
Apologies to geoffbassist.... slinks off sheepishly mumbling about memory not being what it was...
 7. A few quick photos. Highlights for me were: WoTs Genz Benz Streamliner. Massive tone and it coupled really well with my Barefaced Super Twelve. Damn, damn, damn..... It also sounded superb with the Jazz/Precision and Bergantino HS 210 cab that WoT had there. The sound of Keiths upright bass - lusciously warm but with great definition. Scott Devine demo'd some useful tips on progressing your playing, ably helped by... <fatal memory pointer error - see Mrs Snicks as she knows and remembers everything> If anyone in the photos on the link above wants to write their own captions just PM me and I'll bung 'em in. Note that the shot I had lined up with Keith's head just under the 'hat' of Manhattan didn't work. Someone moved just before I took it didn't they?
 8.
...and I really like the Marathon design
I sometimes wonder where Wal got their inspiration. Mind you if someone offered a Wal in exchange for the Marathon, it would be out of the door faster than Coleen Rooney at the Royal Wedding reception. I live in hope.
 9. Some reasonable photos of the Marathon fretless, I exchanged a fretted Marathon for this in 1980. Non standard - the second Wizard pickup in the bridge position, the control set and the Badass bridge. One of the volume knobs pulls out to mute the bass completely (useful), and the other pulls out to put the PUs out of phase. A three-way switch gives one, the other or both. There is a stereo output that originally sent the coils in the stock pickup to different output jacks. When you open the stock pickup, you see it's similar to a P type, with one coil covering the E and A strings, the other covering the D and G, the rest being unwound pole assemblies. I'm sure I had it rewired to split the output from the two pickups, each going to a separate output, but I'll need to check as it was that long ago. The fingerboard is given a Danish oil treatment every now and again and replaces the lacquer that was originally on the surface. The TI Jazz flats must be at least three years old.
 10.
Sennheiser e602-II seems to be the microphone of choice for the touring bands we have in. Recommended http://www.thomann.de/gb/sennheiser_e_602_ii.htm

That's what I use.
Asking around, two out of three responders have mentioned this Sennheiser mic. I actually agree with Alex's comment above, ideally you should use DI, or a combination of mic and DI, and preferably a suitable wide range instrument mic over a kick mic. However, with just one mic and no DI, I've found it easier to get a sound starting from a kick mic, rather than an instrument mic with no bottom end, but we are all different.
 11. Depends on what you want to pay really. £260 - Heil Sound PR40. Despite the rather cool looks, this is a dynamic mic, not a condenser. It can handle high SPLs, with a very good frequency response. £110 - AKG D112 - better known for recording drums, the kick drum in particular. Robust. Very robust. Some prefer the AKG 412 but this is £300. The 412 is better known as a tom mic, but there's no reason to limit it to that. £80 - AKG P2 - cheaper than the D112, and possibly better suited to bass instruments in general than the D112, which is a kick drum specialist mic really. There are others from Electrovoice (RE20 or N/D868 for example) and Shure (PG52, Beta 52a) etc, but the golden rule is don't use a Shure SM58 or 57 - no real bass end at all.
 12. Did you get a birthday card from the Queen this morning Mr B?
 13. Fantastic instrument - the Modulators were a great idea. Mines a lowly Marathon - must post some decent pics some day.
 14.
There's not a cat in hells chance I'm putting up my band's gigs until I'm satisfied we don't look complete arses.
Hasn't stopped me.
 15. I finally got round to buying this a week or so ago, so I've had plenty of time to live with it and mull it over. Here's what I think: I'm finding great difficulty in searching for anything to criticise, and shed loads to rave about. Great hooks and melodies, the way things knit together with the chordal structures and accompanying tonal 'dabs' from all instruments blending beautifully. I find I'm listening to the music rather than the performance, and this is the mark of really well constructed music to me. It just puts a big smile on my face and I couldn't say that for all the musice I've bought. Great variety of mood, tempo and feel. Some of it makes me grin from ear to ear This is not a bass player's solo album in the typical sense. It's a complete album that has been made by someone who happens to be a bloody great bass player. Big difference. Yep, the way some of the hooks pan out is just so fresh and unexpected. (Sing your own Anthem for example) When I do listen to the performance, there is little wrong and another shed-load that is right. All the instruments are played to staggering levels of technical proficiency in the main, with great feel and 'bounce' in the rhythm section. The last track is probably the one that's the weakest, but that's a relative term - weakest in comparison with genuinely excellent is still good. I think I've detected a couple of slightly rushed sections on the bass, but as I've said, I've had to be ultra critical to find faults, but I'm judging from the perspective of how I would judge this if it were a big label, big artist release - no holds barred. In any case it's so far in advance of any bass playing I could even imagine never mind actually play. Oh bollocks to this - it's just a f*cking great album and I'm chuffed to bits I've bought it.
 16. Any photos? There must be photos. Just a few? Any? Even One? Would love to see them if so.
 17.
... any interest in a Genz Streamliner 900?
Oooooh just a bit.
 18.
Looks good, but will you be bringing a "Snickers" Bar along with the Shergold?
Actually.... might have to see about bringing a handful with me to hand out. PS The missus might pop along to say hello before a spot of retail therapy in Harrogate.
 19. Confirmed and paid. With luck will be bringing: Eden WT550 Barefaced Super Twelve T - with Roqsolid cover Boss GT-10B Shergold Marathon Fretless I predict I shall mysteriously develop a condition that prevents me playing anything, but that still allows me to let others try the gear if they want.
 20.

Pah! How small Mr Anderson looks without the long coat, shades and special effects. On a quantum level it both is and isn't. Much like "I'm both going to see your parents and not going to see your parents and.... the nagging has flipped the quantum state irreparably to 'I'm not going'. Now you made that happen, not me. You were the interfering observer".
 21. Is this still here? Fantastic cab, full but not wooly or flabby, smooth mids that do what your amp dictates, from croon to bark, and a really sweet treble. It's that light you can actually pick it up and lift it above your head in one easy move. Great party trick.
 22. Have a great time and even greater gigs. If there's any chance of it being video'd I'm sure you'd have a keen audience here.
 23. I'd need the lidded version - just so I could leave it lying around the house with the lid up. Rock and quilted Roll.
