2.
I've got a massive cock.
You been feeding lead pellets to my poultry again?
 3. Oh go on then.... *dons biggest pair of ego stilts that don't result in an instant topple* Technically - room for improvement, but I know where I should focus. Right hand technique, adjustments to positioning for left hand and learning to play comfortably in any key/position. Feeling - on a good day I can pull off a decent solo bit with some feeling and subtlety. I tend to go for a slower 'each note counts' approach but can do very quick runs if the song tempo is right, but most of the time don't see the point. Not scared of playing at cross-purposes - deliberately undermining the key/mode feel by playing some less harmonic note choices. Not scared of improvising either, and as that's all the band does, it's just as well. If what I'm doing doesn't work, I'm quite happy to stop playing and just listen, as the other guys will be unphased and carry on. I don't sound much like anyone else - some have mentioned Eberhard Weber, and whilst that's very nice, it is stretching it utterly beyond credulity. *Chucks stilts away - nope, not for me*
 4.
I've always wanted to write & record a concept album - a full-blown prog-rock magnum opus with themes, lyrical & instrumental leitmotifs, extended multi-part compositions and lots of incomprehensible time signatures . And I have - well, me & my lovely singist partner have. And I think it's f@cking amazing. I also think I played some pretty good bass on it too. ] Jon.
I too would be really up for a listen to this (yes, really). You'd get an honest constructive opinion. As hard as I've tried, I just cannot blow my own trumpet.
 5.
Thought I'd post a 2.30 minute snippet from a 30 minute track I'm trying to write/record for next year. I'd be interested to hear any opinions
Atmosphere, tension and a rather splendid phrenetic quality in parts. Absolutely love it.
 6. midi-gital device that allows me to slow down time when I play live.
 7.
Nice looking bass
Ooooh thanks. It puts the ugly git player to shame that's for sure.
 8. I used to engineer in a recording studio that I helped build - late 80s/early 90s. First step was to listen carefully to the cab output, and try to replicate that position with a mic - that gives you a starting point. We'd then tape a small cross on the front grille of the cab showing the mic position - this becomes a positional reference point from which instructions like... :up 1 cm, to the left 2cm etc could be relayed. By being methodical it was usually easy to find a good position using the one mic. Keep it simple. Type of mic? Depends on whether the DI or cab sound should dominate, and how good each is. If the cab sound was good then a condenser to capture the full range was a starting point. It was often decided that the DI was now of use only to beef up the sound a tad, if at all. On a mediocre cab, I'd go mainly DI, and experiment with mics until you found one that complimented the sound in the band setting. I seem to remember using a consumer Technics electret condenser on one cab - it did the job, and just goes to show. We even tried a couple of Tandy PZMs rewired for phantom power and placed on a big 'V' shaped baffle to give a stereo pair. Awful. Not bad for drums to capture the room sound though. Still got those Tandy PZMs somewhere. Must plug 'em in and see if they still work.
 9.
The bigger brother of SS's rig - WT550 into a Vintage. Oooh yeah
Hi bro' The Eden and Barefaced combination does seem to work very well. So long as you choose the right cab for the amp power - the Big One is just too much for a WT550 to drive if you need to get loud - the Vintage however is absolutely perfect.
 10. Carnage in Poland - the precursor to The Red Guitars who had a degree of success in the 80s. Only thing is..... I didn't quit, I was pushed. I had a habit of not playing the same thing twice, and now - oh the irony - being in a purely improvisatory band, I'm really struggling to actively stop playing the same thing twice.
 11. The Super Twelve T - usually partnered with an Eden WT550 and a Boss GT-10B. That's my rig really.
 12.
Sorry reminded me of a joke Rich Hall told on Friday night.
I said 'afraid' in an advisory capacity.
 13. Got a WT550 and it works 'right out of the box'. The absolutely superb tone controls are almost redundant as I tend to run the amp flat, with just a merest touch from the 'enhance' control which effectively scoops the mids. You won't get any valve overdrive sounds from it despite having a valve pre-amp, I have an FX unit for that. The build quality is very good indeed. Liz - my friendly techie - remarked on the way the components had been selected and laid out. "All amps should be built like this. It's nothing particularly unusual or exceptional in terms of amp circuit design, it's just put together properly using components up to the job. Makes a change from the weak power supplies and multiple op-amps seen in a lot of stuff I come across." Whether this praise extends to the Eden Nemesis* range - well I have my doubts, but despite that, they still sound very good. * Liz says it doesn't. "Chinese built to a price, and it shows in some of the circuitry components, eg the transformer. Like lots of other name manufacturers in that regard." She confirms the very good sound though. I shouldn't really be saying this, as I'll have an NC-115 Nemesis combo back up for sale soon (15" + tweeter, 240 watts into 4Ω amp section) - once the transformer is sorted to stop it buzzing.
 14.
Cheers matey, remind me where your neck of the woods is (its not shown below your avatar pic)?
Ooooooooo.... you are looking at East Yorkshire I'm afraid.
 15.
Swamp/voodoo/blues/jazz/something-or-other band Rattlin Bone play Camden on Wednesday (link here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...;#entry1037361) followed up by The Waverley in Bognor Regis on Saturday. For those on the South Coast who want to escape the X-Factor, we are onstage about 8.45pm. It will be a slimmed down version of the band (probably 7 or 8 piece down from 14!). Fish n chips and rock n roll, yeah baby
If you ever play up in this neck of the woods there's me and a now a couple of mates who would turn up. Very, very taken with your stuff Clarky.
 16.
Hi all, I looking for a 2x10 cab to match with my Ampeg SVT 3 Pro that I have recently purchased, have you any recommendations on what I should go for? Thanks Ferg
Hi Ferg - Barefaced don't do a 2x10 cab, the closest to that configuration would be the 2x12 Super Twelve. However, with Barefaced cabs, the speaker configuration is of little importance in the grand scheme of things - better to decide what sort of tone you are after and then select the most appropriate cab, irrespective of what sized drivers it happens to have to get the job done. This might help you decide
 17.
Got any pictures SS?
Must get some posted. Leave it with me, and I'll see if I get time tonight.
 18.
Glad this worked out for you Tom! I really like the Nemesis combos - I had an 8x10 one once!
I think I remember you getting that and wondering if I'd be able to hear it on the other side of the country.
 19. I bought a Boss CE-1 from a guitarist friend for £35 in the early 90s. That's the big, built like a tank chorus pedal. Sold it a few years ago for around £240 if memory serves. One of the few instances where I've come out better off. Now if only I still had that Octave Cat synth....
 20.
Morning all! Feeling pretty good this morning, contrary to yesterdays antics.
I think your enthusiasm for this rig came over on both occasions. A good read - for all the posts, drunk or not. The Big One sound is really immense - having tried one. The low fundamental bass end comes through by the skip load, and coupled with a smooth mid range driver, you get some really useful extension into the lower and upper mids. It just nonchalantly reproduces whatever you do. Push in an octave divider and you really feel it. Add some grit or distortion and it comes through as intended. If the sound in your chain is bang on up to the amp - it'll still be bang on after plugging the cab in. The cab really needs a beefy amp - mine was a bit underpowered by the Eden Traveler 550 (500 watts into 4Ω). I now have a Super Twelve T, and this suits the amp far better. Whilst it doesn't quite have the gargantuan low end of the Big One, it is more efficient, will ultimately go louder, and gives the amp a 4Ω load. It still has the Barefaced family sound - hi-fi but far from clinical, slightly warm but not muddy or boomy. And I can pick it up with one hand.
 21. Old gimmer alert. The first two were taken at the Adelphi club in Hull. The last is from a live radio session at Vixen Radio, Market Weighton. Crammed into a very small studio.
 22.
Your fix worked by the way!
It's the low weight composite board they used for the construction. It will stand a reasonable amount of screw tightening, but things can gradually work loose, and when you try to tighten again, the board tends to give a bit more and starts to lose the bite on the screw.
 23.
It's the Nemesis NC-250, really loud and quite light considering the size. Cost me about £250 earlier this year off here! I'll try your matchstick idea as they won't tighten very well.. just my luck haha!
I've got an NC 115 the 240 watt 1x15 that should be up for sale, but needs the transformer tightening up as it now buzzes as soon as you switch on. Matchsticks won't help there though.
 24.
Grill off, no sound.. but I really need to have the grill on else.. something is GOING to get damaged. Hellllp?
Replace the grille, but do the screws up really tightly. If the screws that holds the grille on have got so that they can't be tightened very well, put part of a length of matchstick into the screw hole and then tighten again. That gives the screw something to bite on when tightening. It may take a couple of pieces of matchstick before the screw can be properly tightened. Edit: PS which combo is it? - sounds good (ignoring the rattle).
 25. Is this just a speaker cabinet or a full combo? Try with the grille off as MythSte suggests. If no joy, tighten (carefully) all the bolts and screws for the amp (if a combo) and speakers, and if that doesn't sort it, fully unplug, wait ten minutes for any caps to discharge if a combo and take a peek inside for anything that's worked loose - and only if it's out of warranty. Sounds like someone's put a snare in there somewhere Hmmmm - there is a definite resonance when you hit the 'F'.
