Help! (newbie) - bad shoulder and finger joint
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE replied to peglegs42's topic in General Discussion
She is in a bad way , what with her peg legs . Hope she'll be ok -
I should really know the answer. I used to have a five string , and loved the feel of the low b. Now , as I have many basses I was thinking about having 1 permanently tuned to the above setting. This would obviously involve nut adjustment / truss rod etc. and of course using a proper b string from a 5 string pack . Question is , would the feel be exactly the same as a proper 5,string . Or is it just best to buy a 5? If I did go ahead, the job would be done by a repair tech , probably graham in denmark street. Cheers

Your first post is more impressive than mine . I advertised a trace Elliot amp for sale , without saying hello first,) Seriously , you will be inundated by good helpful advice . Obviously , see a osteopath / doc. What I would say though , regarding the shoulder, have the strap fitted so that the bass is exactly the same position sitting up as standing. There should be no difference . Billy Sheehan told me that . It will all be fine. Just hope it doesn't take too long . -
Good stuff! My grandad left me a bit of cash when he passed away - as a result I bought my Music Man Cutlass and will never part with it.
Nice story also

I was thinking of the riff on the d string , but I stand corrected He did play using all 3 fingers when I saw him in the early days , leaning on the stage . Phantom of the opera , for sure . Doesn't matter really , he's awesome all the same
-
He uses 3 fingers . That's why he does what he does. RF is a number I played by ear,( and surprisingly found it easier than expected). Open e string , frets 1-5 . ( that's most of it IMHO ) When I pickup the bass agin , I must learn the trooper also;) Btw; has anybody noticed papa roach have a bass line on their 2nd single that is very similar to ancient mariner?

Oops sorry. A bit harsh from me .Hope you get one soon and enjoy it

..or has he ?? I decide to use the Bluetooth setting on my Cambridge audio soundstage ,as usual from my iPad . A couple of hours. Ago, I played some you pube clips of Mr Faraud and all of a sudden , the thing was buzzing like large flies - or even bluebottles. Not good! I then played stuff from my iTunes library . Most was ok. Then the buzzing started. So, although I didn't need to, I took out and put back in the audio cable from that to the TV . Now, after playing a few things , including a couple of bass clips on you pube everything seems to work again! I'm just wondering if , like the old NAD amps , there is a self fixing, cooling system installed that corrects the amp at high volumes. ( I think it's called clipping). It weighs a ton , so I don't really want to jump on a bus all the way to Kingston ( not Jamaica) unless I rea lay really have to. I've had the soundstage since December , and up to now faultless . I hate taking things back .

Haven't read all the thread yet. I like the idea, but think the bass itself is ugly . Maybe a wine colour would be better? A different shape also. Then again, i think if status made this instead ( headless)'they would've nailed it .oh, and those pickups .. Ugh Only IMHO

If I still had hair, and played in a metal band , this bass would be it . Yes! Definitely good for metal.

RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE replied to althebassman's topic in Bass Guitars
I was wondering if anyone could possibly help me identify the wood used in the top of the Smith that Hadrien is seen playing most? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yikXIDqPZb8 the wood can be seen really clearly a the 13:57-14:02 Thanks again in advance
Fantastic video . I think I may have to checkout his back catalogue . Awe some . I have no idea to the answer of your question (sorry);( What I would say tho' is that the nut should be brass. Not sure if that's better quality m but the white nut doesn't do it for me . Have a bump , till dpsomeone comes up with the answer Btw ; is it tuned b-e-a-d? Love the sounds he is getting . He's not using effects either, mjudging by the sound of my iPad . -

I know where you're coming from. When I chat to people, some think I know loads of jokes because of my dry sense of humour.( and slapstick). I do know a few , but I forget when put on the spot . My humour seems to win most people over . I'm sure you'll be fine . -
Hee, hee. I didn't mean to come over quite so crazy. It's because I've been in one or two situations recently where people have behaved like stupid spoilt kids instead of logical adults. I should be used to it really, the music business seems to attract 'em.
I hear ya;) probably why I quit gigging 4+ years ago
The band I am in is going reasonably well but an issue has arisen and I really don't understand the logic. The guitarist, drummer and myself have bought the PA between us, the guitarist for some reason didn't want to trouble the singer (his best mate) with shelling out for the PA, hey ho, not overly worried about this. But now, the guitarist wants me to have two of the bass bins to store and carry around to rehearsals and gigs, problems are: 1) I have a car full with all my gear already (including lights)and I most definitely don't have storage room for two bass bins, and certainly won't be able to cram them in my car without doing damage. 2) The singer comes to rehearsals and gigs with just an acoustic in his hatchback. I have refused to store and be responsible for carting around half a PA especially when the singer has an empty car! The guitarist has entered the realms of sulksville, and at the last practise was very petulant and sulky, an attitude I so won't tolerate for long. I am also in another band without this particular hassle and will walk from this one if the atmosphere continues. What are your thoughts on this? PS I have had many years of 'volunteering' under my belt as a lot of us have, and have had my fair share of being taken advantage of, I consider that having top quality kit, commitment to learning the setlist, having my own transport to and from gigs and rehearsals, and actually paying more than my fair share for the PA enough. To me, this is a bridge too far...
Yeah, gotta agree .. Time to walk
-
How old is your guitarist, twelve? Sulking because you can't get your way is pathetic. As is the singer, who is apparently so good that not only do they not have to share in paying for or transporting the equipment that is specifically for vocals, but don't even need to be burdened with the tedious details in the first place! Are they not even slightly curious as to how this gear magically appears for gigs and rehearsals? I'm absolutely and totally sick of this kind of selfish behaviour. I'd have walked away from this lot some time ago. I did an audition the other day at which a singer/guitarist turned up who actually couldn't sing or play the guitar. Not in the least. It was really embarrassing. But when the band leader quite rightly blew this guy off for being a chancer, he got the hump and refused to take 'no' for an answer. Then next day proceeded to subject the BL to a tirade of abuse by phone and Whatsapp (whatever that is). Deluded or what?? What's wrong with these people? I blame the parents, the grandparents, the nanny state, the education system, the something-for-nothing brigade and Hitler. But not necessarily in that order.
Gosh ! You seem very angry today . ) I I agree with you tho
