spill the beans on the project Status in the corner!
It was made for me by a local builder, Keith Bennion of KGB Music in 1986. Status didn't build lefties then so I got keith to make me a copy and it's by far the best playing and sounding bass I have ever owned (4 string that is). It's getting refinished in clear gloss with the EMG's being replaced with something a bit special. I got Keith to spray it black back in 1991 so as to look cool in the band I was in at the time, what a tool! I'll post pics when it's ready. Cheers Steve. P.S. it does kill the neighbours, a bloke over the road has come over a couple of times on the bounce.

HELP MY CURSED SET UP!! WHAT CABS CAN MATCH SUNN 1200s!??
Electric Amp only sell direct in the USA, you'd have to get it shipped over and I'm pretty sure there are fair waiting times for the bigger cabinets, they don't come cheap either. Look for a 2nd hand Orange/Matamp 8x10 and it may sound and look similar, then whack a bunch of new speakers in it to handle the power. Realistically though I'd recommend a 2x15 and a different 4x10 for the volume you seem to be going for. That or make a DIY cab and put what speakers you want in it, and although I don't use BFM cabs for bass playing I'd say give them a look to.
Hi Thomas, your avatar makes me feel sick. Is that supposed to be a representation of you smoking weed? Speaking from massive experience, I personally feel that no one needs to alter their state to appriciate life in all its beauty and horror. Drugs are bad, n'o kay. -
Can I ask where you order yours from, Steve?
Hi, Bass Guitar Strings dot U.S.

8 ohms. Your internal speakers in the combo are 8 ohms, so to get your full power out of the amp you need 4 ohms, that means you need a 8 ohm cab to add to your 8 ohm combo load. 8+8 divided by 4 = 4ohms.

It will more than likely be a 300w at 8 ohms cab, as most of Traces early ones were like that. As I remember you would use a 250 head with 2 cabs and a 500w head with 4 cabs a la Mark King. So it's probably only 300w. Hope that helps you. P.S. your avatar is cool.

Trying to get a precision sound out of my rig - Please help!
steve-soar replied to crumpet_tramp's topic in Amps and Cabs
I recommend buying a Precision, a Squier would be ok, I got mine for £100, 1995 model + a £40 gig bag thrown in. New bone nut, EMG's, new Gotoh bridge, stoned the frets myself and set it up with DR strings, £230 all in and a brilliant precision was born. Sounds the biz, Stranglers, Pink Floyd, Bruce Thomas, Mr Jamerson, its all there. -
lovely apples mate.

Dan, my favourite band, after the Beatles. They played at the Summer Pops in Liverpool this year, I danced my ass off all night. Freddie Washington was great but disappointed that I didn't get to see Tom Barney.West of Hollywood, what a sublime piece of sax sex.

Me three. I love Tom, what a gifted musician. I saw him at the Phil in Liverpool, I nearly sh*t my keks,(if anyone has seen Squarepusher live, you'll know what I mean )

Bump for a great Multi FX. I'am using mine as the front end of my Ashdown rig. I plug my bass into the GT6B, out into the FX return on the back of my combo so bypassing the combo's controls and just using its power amp. The FX, and massively comprehensive EQ on the GT6B sounds much much better than the Ashdowns. I especially love the compression, many distortions, parametric EQ, amp and cab models and the chorus/reverb/delay/flange settings, all of which are infinitably tweekable. IMHO this is the best multi FX unit available and at that price it's a total no brainer.

Back in 1988 I had a Marshall Jubilee head and a Jubilee 4x10 cab. It was a 200w head and it sounded ok, just ok. I had come from owning a Mc Gregor 200w bass head with HH 2x15" cab which at the time I thought sounded great, this is what I started with, to then owning a Peavey Combo 300, which looking back was brilliant. I then tried the Jubilee head thrigh a Peavey 1820 cab, 1x18" with 2x10" speakers, not good, and it weighed about 150lb! The Marshall Jubilee head was, looking back , weedy, lacking in bottom, lacking in mids and had clanky harsh highs and this was using a JD Mark King. Maybe using different cabs and a passive bass would have a different effect.
