1. The Strad' of electric bass guitars.
2. Bump, can deliver within reason. I may have to put it on ebay. Still for sale £350 or swap for amp, WHY? Cheers Steve.
3.
Any tips on how to do this & what to use? I'm going to be defretting my Peavey 5 and fancy having a shot at epoxying the board myself. Jon.
Hi Bassassin, you need to get yourself some Marine Epoxy, carefully measure out the resin and hardener in a glass beaker using a glass rod to mix the two together. By using glass it's easier to clean with solvents to remove any waste so you can then repeat with a second coat. To apply the first coat first mask the entier neck so as to only leave the fingerboard exposed, making sure that you have prepared the board to remove any dirt and grease by sanding, a 240 grade garnet paper should work but be carefull not to alter the profile of the fingerboard. Make sure that you know the radius of the fingerboard before you start sanding. you will need a radius gague to keep cheking that you don't sand the fingerboard into a different shape. Apply the carefully mixed resin to the board, making sure there are no air bubbles in the resin, by smearing it along the length of the fingerboard with the glass rod. You need to work quickly and carefully as the resin cures in no time, then after your first coat clean the rod and beaker with solvent so you can do a second mix for your second application. Leave the first coat to dry for at least 24 hours then sand rough so as to key the fingerboard for the next coat. When you have repeated this you need to check the fingerboard has its correct profile then buff and polish the resin to a shine. Hope this helps, any problems get in touch Cheers Steve.

There's a few in the US, but I don't want to send my neck overseas if I don't have to... Ta!
KGB Music in Birkenhead. I know because I used to work there and did these very jobs. They made the fingerboard sing at the same time as being indestructible.
5.
In venues where you are all going through a FOH PA then your bass equipment is for your monitoring, obviously if you can't hear yourself then measures need to be taken but the monitor mix is for the 'band' and that should include the bassist. Obviously budgets dictate what your PA can supply but I do get hacked off when drummers (or any band member for that matter) think that their needs are greater than any one else, it should be a balance otherwise 'the band' ends up sounding bad. If a sound guy can't supply your needs then you've either got the wrong gear for the venue or the wrong engineer. Off my wine... I mean soapbox!
+ 1 on greedy band members. Unless the whole band can hear themselves, you can bet the FOH sound will be shi*e. Why is it always drummists? On the more volume issue , try to get eveyone else to turn down to your levels. The best on stage sound I've EVER experienced was at volumes not much more than a good home stereo, that combined with the crowd going ape then feeding the performance we were giving because we could hear each other, resulted in one of our best performances. Failing that, buy a big amp and an even bigger cab, cabs! Cheers Steve.
6. After you Slapman.
7. Lovely, good shape.
8. Hi Rumple, thank the Lord you sold your great amp, the amount of idiots that must have almost sent you barmy was just unreal. All the best Steve.
9. Bump for a great Xmas offer, £350 was £1100. No issues, sounds great, immaculate condition. Cheers Steve.
10. Now you're talking, final sanding, fitting then set up. Bet you can't wait? YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED.
11. Bump, why not treat yourself to a immaculate Ashdown EVO MK 1, ABM C115 575 Watt combo, 1x15" speaker, for the Christmassy price of £350. The perfect gift for young and old. Or why not trade your amp for this piece of magic. Cheers Steve.
12. Will the Mark Bass be for sale?
13. Hi has this sold? Cheers Steve.
14. Strip it all back to basics. Gallien Kruger, Markbass, all swing with a nice mid personality. It sounds like you need to hear and feel yourself on stage. Also I've just bought a Hartke 4.5 XL cab and it sounds amazing with my ACG Recurve Singlecut 6 string, everywhere I play on the fingerboard sounds loud and clear. Just a suggestion.
15. The Cow from Atom Heart Mother.
16. Bump. Bought the Hartke cab and it's brilliant. So need to sell this or swap for amp because the two together take up too much room. BTW the combo and Hartke cab sound amazing, so would also like to trade for a 500+w amp head, WHY? Cheers Steve. P.S. something with a tube preamp like the Ashdown. A Markbass would also be nice.
17. The 4.5XL is a beast, the neighbours are getting a pettition together as I speak. I bought one last night and it nearly blew the windows out and that was with the amp at one third, I kid you not!
18.
Eh?? Replace them... no..... the Hartke cabs are excellent, just get some help lugging them around. IMHO when you pay decent money for cabiniets you are really paying for magnets, that's what makes them work and what ultimately produces the air shoving power you get from these cabs. Can't see the point in replacing the speakers just to make the cab a bit lighter. Mine is paired with the Hartke HA3500, works fine, pumps loads of air, never had the amp up above 5 in a gig, even on a big stage. Richard
God bless you.
19. I've just bought a Hartke 4.5 cab from Sparky, (cheers mate you are a star) and I'm amazed at the tone from this cab. I was a bit shocked when I saw it in the flesh because of its size and lifting it upstairs to the music room was lets say , a challenge but once it was plugged in it sounded bonkers. What do other people think about this cab? Dood, I like your idea of replacing the speakers to reduce the weight and making it a high powered 4 ohm cab, say 800-1000w would be ideal but for now it sounds killer, even with only half of my Ashdown combos power (287w @ 8 ohms) going through it. So I've ended up getting an even heavier and larger cab to replace my Mini 48 but it blows it away in every other respect. BTW was £175 a good price? It's in great condition and Sparky delivered it from Manchester to Birkenhead (maybe his girlfriend wanted rid because of its size) for free. Look forward to your responses. Cheers Steve. Also what amps do you think would be good matches?
20. Just bought a Hartke 4.5 cab from Sparky and all I can say is what a great guy he is. Not only did he reduce his original asking price, he also delivered it for free, from Manchester to Birkenhead- round trip of about 80 miles! Thanks again mate for such a great cab. What have I done..... it's fu**ing huge and weighs a ton, sounds good though.
21. mxm whats the Bootsey like? Is it the £3500 Washburn jobbie? Thanks for the comments guys. Doesn't anyone like the Squier?
22. The smallest of bumpettes. The Mini 48 has gone, Cheers Phil, so just the combo to sell. I might by a Hartke 4.5 what do people think? Cheers Steve.
23. Here is my ACG, recurve single cut 6 string. My KGB headless, four string 1986. Which I am refinishing at the moment. and finally my Squier Precision 1995 with EMG pups and tone control.
24. Show us some photo's then, so we can make our minds up.
25. Bump. Sounds fantastic with the ACG Bass preamp. Loud, clear, well built, made in England.
