1. And your last photo brought a tear to my eye, that is truly beautiful. My Daughter will be 21 in August.
2. The middle photo, "Three Poofs And A Precision".
3. Great job, almost invisible.
4.
Here's my dear old friend, Sean, (from the High Llamas) having a go. Of course, he couldn't help take the piss and played Tears For Fears 'Everyone Wants to Rule the World' over and over again just to annoy me.
What does "The Chain" sound like on it?
5. Hi Sparky, do you know a guy called Nick Jevins?
6. What instrument did you learn to read music for and has it been your main instrument in the past?
7. That's a lovely bass, so, are you going to keep it natural? I quite like all the crazing, makes it look older and sexy, bit like Helen Mirrem.
8.
Thanks. Yeah, I'm also struck by the similarity between the hardboard bass and the drawings to the finished thing - the result of years of experience and knowing what you want, I suppose. Weird to think most builds start as big dull lists of ingredients, ie - 10 string thru neck Mahogany Body Buck-eye Burl top and back with matching golden balls 27 fret neck 45mm fossilized ivory nut with whipped cream veneer -without even considering the shape and how the ergonomics and proportions work. I will think about marketing it but I've been slightly put off by the state of the economy and the general pervading pessimism of the moment and some grim warnings from a fellow BC-ers.
You forgot to mention "Custom lazer cut Red Coral inlay at the twelth fret of your initials, matching pickup covers with LEDs, state of the art build quality in another factory, at no expense spared to the customer, by a sub-contractor, neck and body to be assembled in a totally custom style build manner, with a nod to the timeless designs of Fender.
9.
That's horrible!
Can you elaborate?
10. "My Forbidden Lover"
11. Wow and wow again. If it plays and sounds as good as it looks, it will be a beauty. Good luck.
12. Nice sound, well done Sir.
13. Six and a half K.
14.
I present a super-luxurious shot: I'll start writing about it some time in the next couple of days. Just getting used to it for the time being...
http://www.wackywavinginflatablearmflailingtubeman.com/
15. I think you have come to a point where you have realised that you are responsible for your dynamics. I've NEVER used compression live.
16. Have you checked any internal bracing near the rattle? Whip the speaker out and give any braces a wiggle for looseness.
17.
Guys, It's pretty fair to say that over the years i've been a bit fickle with gear...... I've had over 100 Basses through my hands in the last decade a lot of them high end instruments.... My Wife has announced that she'd like to buy me a "Keeper" Bass for my 40th Birthday (September 2010) and this time i'm going to do something i've never done and get one made for me to my spec..... Now that already cuts out another Fodera with god knows how many years waiting time... Most likely also a Jaydee for the same reason..... I guess with the currency impact it's difficult to justify an Alembic these days.... UK builders look like they offer the best "Value" these days...... I'd love to hear your suggestions for a custom instrument, with an idea of build times. Also who's instruments are the most consistently good ? The main reason i've never had a bass made for me is the concern that it might turn out to be a dog ! Look forward to hearing your thoughts.... Mark
That P bass and Aggi stack was just about the pinnicl. Custom basses, you'll only sell it on after a while. But if you are under STRICT instruction from SHMBO not to get rid, what are your specs going to be? Marcus, can you give us a list of your basses (if you haven't done already), so we can have some idea of your habits. I've had two custom builds. A KGB Status replica, built in 1986 (because Rob Green told me that he would never make a lefty, too expensive ) and an ACG Recurve, both totally different and both totally awsome. The KGB has done hundreds of gigs and has been complimented by producers for it's great sound, they said the playing was sh*te but hey ho. The ACG, well haven't you played one? That's a killer bass. Good luck and don't get too stressed. Steve. How about a Spoombung?
18.
Shoes? I should probably understand but I'm afraid I don't
Imagine you are a young woman, who is obsessed with shoes, looking in the window of Jimmy Choos. This is the mantra you would be saying, as you are being spellbound by the shoes. Your bass has this effect on me. Example, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCF3ywukQYA
19.
Thanks for that Steve. You make a good point, refinishing is an awful lot of work I guess, and if it's done well, then it's worth paying for..... I think my central concern is that I'm not paying way over the odds for the Sims Custom shop finish, and of course my other concern is are they any good? Have you used them perchance?
I've never used Simms but I have done refinishing before for a living when I worked at KGB Music. Have you got any pics of the bass?
20. What a dobber I am, I just copied the photographers name and pasted it. Tit on a stick award goes to yours truly.
21. Get in my son. Is that a chestnut top?
22. Real bass, belongs to the bassist (orly) from D.A.D. Henrik Christensen.
