Mr Moon

Hi all, Hope this finds you well. Here's a link to my Mr Moon clip. I'm a big fan of Zender and his style has been a massive influence on me over the years. I hope you enjoy it, and get something out of it. Please feel free to contact me and any feedback would be very welcome. All the best. Fgz http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShsNAstzvvg&feature=fvst
2. I couldn't make it unfortunately. But great to hear it was cool. I think Stevie Williams is a legend for putting this on and building a reputation over the years where now Marcus is up for coming along! Good stuff!
3. That's a rare one. Nice looking bass. Are you going to be in the UK with it anytime soon? Without playing it I wouldnt be able to stump up that sort of cash. These are supposed to be great!
4. If u can find a jazz bass on the second hand Market then you should be on the right track. I always recommend yamaha cos they don't make any bad instruments. The best thing is to play a lot of stuff and get what speaks to u.. Simple!
5. Hi mate, Is your Epi cab a series 2 or series 1? From personal experience I can say that the S2 models are much more scooped in the mids than the older s1 cabs which, though quite shaped in their own sound, still retained a lot of mid range punch and growl if needed. Although the s2 is great, loud, and portable, it may be part of the problem if that's what you have. Obviously if you know that then you can start to work around it with the amp... But then I'd agree with other comments (again from personal experience) that the Ashdown stuff is very weighty on the low end and not the most 'mid' range presence in its inherent sound. So you're getting loads of bottom end which is probably just too much in your environment-always a nightmare anyway! I remember the Ashdown EQ being pretty powerful and maybe even using the 'Shape' or 'flat' (can't remember which) to cull a bit of that boomy low end will help massively.. WHen you turn up the volume in the kinda venue you're talking of the sound can change massively! Doh! Hope that's of some help dude.
6. I've used Glockenklang a bit when I've been away and it's absolutely stunning gear. Really well made, and transparent yet really fat and warm. Bump from someone who isn't in a position to buy this but one day think I'll have some. Different league from most amps out there IMO. Shouldn't hang around long.
7.
Having a sh*t-hot camera doesn't necessarily make you a better photographer. Although it helps.
There you go! At the end of the day, as long as your gear helps you to be you, it shouldn't matter. If you have amazing gear it can still sound sh**e, and I know people with crappy gear who sound incredible. I think that G.A.S is sometimes brought on by a desire to improve and change, but it seems increasingly rare that people look to their own playing, feel and knowledge to achieve that change. And the focus is put on the gear instead. I think if there's funds to do that then why not? But it will be short lived, as once you've played all your chops on the new gear, you'll be bored of it not long after! I love gear, and am a total geek for it. It's amazing to find wicked kit that works for your sound. It's also amazing to find new ways in music and playing through learning and practice - this is where the real sound is for me.. Whadd'ya reckon/ Bit of a rant or common sense ?
8. No takers then. I'll get me coat.. !
9.
Hi All, I had some time on my hands up in London today, so thought I'd go out my way to visit the Bass Gallery in Camden Town. All I hear on BC is good things about this store, so was looking forward to being treated as a like-minded enthusiast instead of a dumb hindrance. Upon arrival it is apparent that the place is stuffed full of quality gear, both high and low end, and yes, it's in Camden so space is very tight. There were two other punters in, one trying a brand spanker Fender Jazz, the other droning on about DJ Shadow like he was the next big thing. The BG guy did not seem to know who he was, and after all, 'Endtroducing' was only realesed in '96 (sorry, being a bit of a bitch here). Anyway, after a while these other two Gents left and I was on my own with a man who kept his back to me while I perused the wood. At this point I must point out that there was only one real reason that I went there, and that was to try the Wal Custom 2 Mk 1, as I'd seen it on there site, and at the mo, I've got everything else I need. So, I asked the feller if It would be OK if I tried the Wal... and this was his reply... 'No, I'm sorry we only allow people who are really interested in buying a Wal try a Wal' I was flabbergasted. I explained to him that I didn't know of any other way to know if I was interested in a bass, than by trying a bass. He then questioned me as to whether I knew the Wal cost £3.5k? Of which of course I know, but it is hardly the point. I always believe that If you know in your heart that you want something, then the price becomes immaterial. My collection of Harley Davidsons is testament to that. Then in a most weasely manner, He says that it is not their bass, but they were selling on behalf of someone else, and that they did not want any damage to come to it. At this point I was looking behind me to see who he was talking too. Either they are selling this bass or not, and if so any prospective buyer should have a road test, otherwise I'll take my chances on frigging eBay. After all, I'm assuming they are making a cut, so what is their problem? Anyway, he unhooked her and let me plug her in. But no help or advise as to the circuits was forthcoming, he just turns his back and goes. He may as well have handed me a turd. After a while of plunking I noticed he had disappeared all together. I sat for a bit, then hung the Wal back and exited a completely empty shop. I was wondering if it was my appearance, short hair, jeans, jacket. Or maybe my age, at 44 maybe I'm on the young side for their prices. I dunno, it beats me, but I could've bought the 4 Wals they have hanging up, and still have change for a Fodera. Anyway, just wanted to vent my spleen. I'd hate to be a young talent turning up there, they probably wouldn't open the door. I hope that the people from the Bass Gallery read this, and I hope it sticks in there throat that they missed out on a £3.5k sale. I shall not be returning
But did you like the bass?! You describe falling in love with something and wanting it... Or is it that you feel your 3.5k deserves a load of attention? Which I completely understand - it's a lot of money and you want to feel reassured in what you're spending on. It's a shame for you to miss out on the Wal of your dreams just because the shop were protective over a valuable instrument... The thing is. That shop lets you make up your own mind, and leaves you alone to try things for yourself. On the flip side, for me, there's nothing worse than a salesman who talks all over you while you're trying something out. You can come away with something you don't actually like in that case, and in my experience. Some shops you feel like you've made a friend but bought something utterly s**te! I think in the Gallery they have learnt this, and know that there's no point in doing a hard sell with something so personal as it will backfire, maybe with you, they went too far the other way! They are good guys in the Gallery, Alex would be gutted if he knew your reaction. I see your point mate, but I've always enjoyed the freedom to check out some instruments in my own time, and I've found some gems there over the years. I've always found them supportive and professional, rather than spouting a lot of b.s that some other specialists do. Food for thought perhaps ...
10. More to follow btw... I promise they won't be slap !! lol
11. Hi guys, I've had a quiet week...! So found myself trying to do some clips for youtube and after being reasonably happy, decided to upload. I'd really like you to take a look and let me know what you think, give any feedback or put any comments on there as they are kinda 'Naked' at the mo!! I'm not really a slapper (!) but both are slap clips, including the amazing and very influential 'Mr Moon'. More to come... Thanks in anticipation of any feedback/time looking. Hope you enjoy! Cheers all, hope this finds you well. Fingerz Mr Moon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPpckPPPrD0 and the lesser known (and very cheesy I admit) Don Blackman song here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRsdC0GCUF0...feature=related
12. Great! SO good to hear people taking pride in what they do. I've chatted to them in the past (I think it was his son?) and they were really helpful.
13. Yes those frets add to the very vintage feel when playing it.
14.
Thats a lovely looking bass, i wouldn't mind one myself but it has a P neck (41.3mm), the DD has a Jazz neck (38mm). Not a great deal in it i admit but having two necks with those nut sizes i much prefer the Jazz neck and do notice a difference. Bugger, P bass GAS now, especially as it has vintage style frets
Ah! Well it felt much smaller than P basses usually do. STill not tight enough eh?! Still a great compromise, sounds great and plays fast and funky. Sorry for my ill informed ramblings! I'll get me coat!
15. Fantastic
16. I nearly bought this bass last time it was up but I found the J Update I now own (JJ pups) so bailed out. Such a nice looking bass! Chris Celinder is one of the few luthiers who really 'gets it' in terms of tone and playing an instrument live. I think his 5's feel complete, which for me, is quite rare when you go away from 4 string territory. Loverrly stuff! best of luck with the sale..
17. I played this the other day: http://www.thebassgallery.com/product_deta...e=Bass%20Guitar I'd say it's the one to get unless you can find the Lakland 'Dunn' model (think it's name has changed recently). PLayed amazingly with the Jazz profile neck I'm used to, sounded every bit the growly, hollow P bass too. Might get myself one next year. It really is a FENDER P bass with a jazz neck !!
18. To be honest, I never understand why people listen to Fender 'type' sounds, then go out on a quest for active basses with Bartolini's etc etc.. Great kit, but different kettle of fish. It sounds to me like you should go out and play loads of fender Jazz basses until you find something that you're happy with. Great slap sound, huge hollow deep sound from the front pickup.. All i'm saying is, don't over look the basics when it comes to good tone.
19. Jaco's sound was amazing, why would you think another bass would've sounded better? And as long as HE loved his sound, he could be himself on his instrument. You can practically hear his fingers carving away on the bass, I think it's incredible, and admire him for turning down no doubt countless offers to play something more fancy that just wouldn't be right for him. Re Jeff Berlin, I make no comment other than; It takes all sorts, and he's earned his opinions over the years whether I agree with them or not.
20. I know for those of us who have to do this regularly it's necessary and always a slight risk, but I learnt something new recently which may be of use.. Airports no longer hand out 'fragile' stickers (the ones I have been to at least, on budget airlines that bands into Europe tend to get booked onto) - apparently it makes them liable for damage to glass etc people were putting in bags. This of course means your bass is more likely to get chucked around and treated like everything else. Of course this is always likely, but without 'Fragile' on an item there's absolutely no chance it will get respected. You can however, turn up with 'Fragile' stickers plastered over your kit that you have supplied yourself. So, for anyone traveling, I advise getting hold of some stickers online and sorting your kit out. Getting it on the plane/into hold safely is ok as you can assert standards - it's when it comes off that I have had problems lately with it just getting taken and chucked about. There are lots of tricks to get around this, like walking to the gate etc.. but you never know how they'll be about it. So I thought for anyone with a shiny new case or such like, this info would be of use. Hope it is! Safe traveling!!
21. Marcus's tone is not really of great concern here. Conceptually I totally agree with what he is saying. High price doesn't guarantee that the tone/feel will suit you or be really fat. I've had really pricey gear that is fantastic/perfect but just doesn't do it for me. He's not knocking expensive gear, he's just saying that more isn't always more.. I should know, I play a £700 (ish-new) Japanese Fender Jazz 4, and a £3,500 (new) Celinder 5. As it's the only 5 I've felt comes up to old school 'round-ness' standards (for me). I think I'd keep the 4 if one had to go! If I'd have found a 5 string for £500 that I was happy with I would have bought that, but I'm yet to find it. Totally personal, but I totally get his point.
22. Lovely bass mate. Good luck with the sale, if it was another time i'd be really interested in this. But i'm very happy with my lot atm. Highly regarded basses and rightly so.
23. Hi mate, Your playing is fantastic. How much does the bass weigh out of interest? If you were local to me I'd defo come and check it out... Will have a think about it - where are you based? Cheers, Fingerz
24. He sounds wicked. He sounds like Janek. IMO we should all aim to sound like ourselves. Lovely new bass too!
25. It's this one by the way. You can see why I want another one ... stunning
