5. Hi Guys, Just wondered if anyone has any tips on buying an electro acoustic to practice on, maybe around a couple of hundred quid, probably second hand. Was considering Crafter (allways seems popular), Takamine, Fender etc. Play Jazz Basses most of the time. looking for something with a relatively good sound. Any advice much appreciated.
6. No one has mentioned Return To Forever, Stan's the man, and the combination of him Corea, Lenny White and Al Dimeola has its moments. Or what about Mahavishnu Orchestra, Billy Cobham is 'god of drums' in my book (although I always thought Rick Laird was a bit mediocre). Isn't Jazz Funk fusion? Love everything funky from Stan, Marcus to the Brand New Heavies etc. After all - Funk is its own reward !!!
7. + 1 for a compressor. I think it is the best bass effect and never switch mine off. Got and EBS Multicomp which is superb, really tightens up the sound. Do agree with the string comments, have tried loads but allways go back to Rotosound roundwounds (FM66's) very light but great tone and gives me a lot of control over the sound (vibrato/bends etc). Cant believe the difference in sounds of different strings. Keep experimenting, you'll get there.
8. Know what you mean, if you need a wah/Q as good as it gets imho, bit of a wrench but need to liberate some cash, can't believe MXR have stopped making them, must be recent cos they're still available in some places, hopefully someone will get great use out of it.
9. On e-bay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pristine-MXR-Bas...=item1c1e8966e7 Ends Saturday Pristine MXR Bass Auto Q Retail Circa £140 Bidding starts at £50 I am selling my MXR M188 Bass Auto Q pedal because I never use it. This is a great and very versatile effects unit which can generate anything from a ‘Phat Funky Wah’ to a subtle ‘crybaby’ tone which is great on solos. I think these are now discontinued, which is a shame, but you can still pick them up at the mo: http://www.amazon.co.uk/MXR-M-188-Bass-Aut...h/dp/B0002E52PW The control setup gives you total control over the effect which drew me to the pedal: • Range knob: controls frequency floor of effect The • Q Knob: Adjusts the intensity of the Wah effect • Volume : controls overall effect output level • Decay knob: controls the drop-off of the wah effect or transition between wah and shimmer • Blend knob : controls the mix between auto-wah and Shimmer • Rate knob: controls the speed of the shimmer effect Band switch selects favored frequency range of effect. The pedal is built like a tank and sounds awesome. Being MXR you know that the quality is impeccable. If you check my feedback you will see that I really look after my gear. The pedal is in great condition. I don’t have the original box but will pack the pedal properly. It comes with original instruction booklet (which I have written on) and will be posted 1st class recorded. MXR’s Bumph: Using textures to enhance your sound enhances your personality as a player and can contribute substantially to defining your signature as an artist.. Whether on record or played live, the magic of an exquisite musical texture played in an inspired moment can be the stuff that launches legends or cements them in history. With the MXR Bass Auto Q, your own moments of magic await you. The Bass Auto Q can instantly "funkify" your sound and especially exceeds when applied to sustained notes and chords. Incorporated into even the simplest rhythms and lead lines the Bass Auto Q can create dramatic, counter rhythmical textural effects. Some of the more basic features of the Bass Auto Q include volume and decay controls while the "Q" and range and controls provide for super precision attenuation to accentuate even the subtlest but critical nuances of an expressive sound. Dial in the variable shimmer effect that is unique to the Bass Auto Q by tweaking the rate and blend controls to determine the shimmer effect's dominance against the auto Q effect. Encased in a classic MXR, indestructible black metal housing, the control stencils and pointer knobs are intelligently screened in "glow in the dark" stencil for performances on dark stages. Loads of Demos online You Tube etc Any Questions, please ask.
