1.
Really? From what I've heard there isn't a whole lot between the Metros and the NYCs? Anyone else got any experience with this? On a similar note, I have to confess, when I tried the Nordy's, they were very nice but no more than my very nice workhorse jazz. And mine was substantially cheaper even with all the modifications I've made to it. I don't struggle to see why boutique jazzes are popular, I just wouldn't spend my money on them. Mark
I play an 86 MIJ Jazz and it just works... I don't really look at other 4 strings especially for that sort of style/sound of bass so I know what you mean... When it comes to 5's tho, I've not played a Fender 5 I get on with so its here that I start to look at other 'boutique' type basses. And i think where you also benefit from that sort of thing a bit more. Prob also cos I have a jazz I'm up for going a little bit more modern sounding in my 5 string. New technologies help too, like 3 piece neck etc. For me having that jazz type body keeps that 'workhorse' feel about a bass and is practical even tho it might not be a 'Jazz'. ... Hmmm... blah, blah !
2.
I think I need to concentrate on my playing now!
OMG!! The GB hasn't even touched the sides and now this?!! Crazy b******d! Hope its a good un.
3. It shouldn't take long to get used to 5 strings again on that bass birdy. You probably just need to do that first gig with your head down to feel comfortable on it again... It does my head in swapping between 4 and 5 string. Its got such a fast neck and the string spacing is quite tight at the nut so it doesn't take a massive adjustment in technique. I remember some twat nearly damaged it once, he was an extra on a tv set. I was well pissed off, wanted to fill him in! Lol, don't you just hate twats who don't get the value of your gear! It has been well cared for... in fact I may even have OCD with my gear..!haha. Hope you got to bed eventually, glad you like it.
4. I just looked at this thread and can't believe how long its got! It has become a GB event organising comitee!! - and I now can't come! Doh. With regards to my joining blatantly to sell the bass, I understand the dodgy vibes from a few members totally. Infact it's reassuring there's some pride here. Thanks to Flanker and Birdy for support. Think of this more as the incentive to join rather than the soul reason. And yes I will be visiting from now on. Cheers guys. Now you've taken the wives off ebay you'll have to behave yourselves at the GB social! With what I've just spent on my new bass I nearly had to do a buy it now on my girlfriend!! Thanks birdy and I hope you have years of fun with the bass. Look after. Jo
5. Just sold this to a very proud new owner. Thanks for all the interest. Please withdraw any wives from ebay asap! Cheers guys. Jo
6. Thanks for the bass love! I am sad to part with it. Possible buyer for it at mo so that's good news. I promise not to drag it out and remove it as soon as it's sold! It seems to be torturing some of you..Lol. Cheers
7. Thanks for the interest. A couple of people have enquired about trades. This is a Sale only. I'm not interested in any trades I'm afraid. Best Wishes.
8. GB Spitfire 5 String. These basses have a great reputation. It has one of the strongest Low B's i've ever played. Here are the features: - Ash Body - Quilted Maple Top - Maple neck (flamed) - Birdseye Maple Fingerboard - Hipshot Lightweight tuners - Black Hardware - GB Custom Pickups - GB 18v Circuit Vol/Pan/Bass/Mid/Treble - Series/Parallel Switch - 'Pulse' Battery monitor - Through Body Stringing - Neutrik Locking Jack - 35" Scale - 24 Frets Its virtually unmarked. Two slight marks on the end of the headstock that I can't even photograph clearly. It has gone everywhere in a hard case and been very, very well looked after. The finish and build quality are second to none (as you probably know). The strings are all really even in terms of tone and tension. A true 5 string. It has that trademark GB slap tone and a real punch with finger style. Very versatile circuit for all styles and useful for compensating for a bad sounding room. Also the power of it is great for recording and it has always sounded great in the studio. It is light (around the 8 pound mark) and balances perfectly. Allways been a completely dependable bass. Sad to see it go. I'm selling the GB for £1100 I'm in Bucks but do travel around so give me a bell if you're interested. 07719154668 Thanks.
