I would use the search function first and take a look at the threads already on here. A few to get you going http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;hl=insurance http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;hl=insurance http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;hl=insurance
Thanks mate. Endsleigh looks pretty good. Has anyone had experience with them when having to make a claim?

I need to renew my insurance for my gear. Musicguard seems an obvious choice but wandered if there's anything else worth checking out? It really needs to cover my gear in car and on stage .. Any experience would be a big help, and save me lots of time! I'm always dubious as music insurance seems to have a lot of 'black spots', if you've had any real life experience with any then it would help loads. So, what's the best deal?? Thanks
I've just had an email from Bernie himself after i sent him some pics and the serial no. He asked if he could buy it back as it was one of the first ever made!! and he was born in Carshalton which is where the gig was on Sunday when the guy gave me the bass. You couldn't make this up but i can assure you it's true. Kevin Webb
I was going to say email him. He always remembers his instruments and is always contactable. Crazy coincidence about the location! Never seen a Goodfellow one look like that before, looks nice.

It was pretty amazing to see the three AC's together. Thanks guys for letting me play on these awesome basses. That Jazz with the AC preamp (white one) is the most ridiculous jazz bass I have EVER played, I don't think they come any better than that. It was nice (and bizarre) to find my 80's Jap Jazz to be pretty similar by comparison though.. Thanks Steve for hosting and the Tea and Orange Club biscuits (fine combo!) Cheers guys

What's so special about the Fender Jazz
fingerz replied to thepurpleblob's topic in General Discussion
I agree with all of the above. i have owned 'jazz' shape/type basses efore. When I found the Jazz I now own, I was like 'that's the sound I've been looking for'. Totally purposeful... I think another reason for the copies is the general look of the bass, be it a J or a P. I've heard of people getting sent home from pro auditions for pulling a fancy looking 6 string out of the bag! It's outrageous I know, and I don't support this bass 'bigotry', but if your instrument is a reflection of your approach to playing, then alot of people are reassured by someone on a fender or that style instrument. They represent purposeful low end intentions which I why I think they are a safe bet for so many. It's a massive appearance thing.. that's why they all sound so different. I sometimes wonder, if Leo F hadn't invented the electric bass, would it have stuck around?... -
Hi I do not want to sell this bass. I have some work on the horizon that may warrant a different vibe to this and as I can't afford to go buy something of equivalent standard thought I'd throw it open to the people on here. If anyone were interested I might consider parting with it. Maybe... Please drop me a message if you're interested. Ash Body Rock maple neck (v stable) 35" scale Nordstrand split coils 70's pos Fender pots 21 fret Brown/Honey burst Rosewood board Locking Neutrik jack/Hipshot tuners/Schaller locking buttons I had this built to capture the passive warm tone of my jazz in a 5 string, if you're in to your classic tone you'll know what I mean. Its very similar to Lakland in that sense but with the build quality from Bernie that GB are renowned for. Its got 21 frets too for a fatter slap tone and vintage vibe. The fender pots give it a great look, similar to Alleva IMO. I'm only considering parting with it as I have a vintage sound (my fav sound!) covered in my Jazz and might need a modern sounding plank for some gigs. If this doesn't happen, the bass stays! Anyway, reluctantly I'm posting this on here. If you want to know more or see more pics, email me. I'll put the one up for now so you get the picture. Price: I'd not budge on £1600 for this unmarked bass. It's as new and a one off. Been gigged but in the case unless its being played, unmarked! Trades? Send me any suggestions but I'd rather sell if it comes to it. Thanks
Maybe we need the bass players version of this: What would be on the list?
Haha. Can of worms there methinks.... The annoying thing is when people try to impress with their chops especially when trying out gear. I'm always intrigued when I hear someone doing their own thing no matter how complex or not it may be.. I think whats p***ed people off is the amount of people competing over each other rather than being honest and trying out gear for what you ACTUALLY might do with it. be that slapping or not, it's easy to tell! Too many insecure bass players??!!
-
Who's doing all the slapping then?? Everyone seems to agree that it is inappropriate and only one of the many styles you would want to try out when serious about some gear...? Stevie W puts lots of work into that day so its a shame people feel those who attend are slapping the pleasure out of going.

Cool, bass presents too. Good one mate!

The strap button moving will give you some mileage for sure... If you are up for putting another hole in the bass. Sometimes a neck heavy bass is just a neck heavy bass regardless what you do.. A short top horn will never help this either.. Re straps. Leather is shiny so won't help the bass staying put. A strap called a Comfort Strapp is neoprene a really comfy once you get used to the stretchyness... It grips the shoulder pretty well so might help keep the bass in one place. The Gallery sell them if you fancy a go.

Yeh, he's a wicked guy and fantastic bassist and all round muso. I hope the band does well, it's good to hear a band with their sound and skills getting some wide recognition. If you like their stuff buy the album, they seem to be working really hard to get it on the map at the moment. Nice One!!

My mad story of a fight WITHIN the band on a residency gig: I was on a latin gig and the percussionist (who's gig it was) punched the keyboard player in the face and then broke free again and chucked my music stand (black steel solid type-eek!!) point blank at the keys players face. How mad is that. It was only because the keys player made a few comments that he wasn't in time or listening for any endings, which was absolutely right. There was a bar full of people and luckily a few big guys jumped up and held him back - I had my pride and joy strapped to me so whilst trying to put it somewhere where it wouldn't get used as a beating stick I didn't end up being much help to the poor pianist. I hope I never work with a nutter like that again!
Can anyone recommended any good shop in London where the staff are not so friendly/helpful and not got a face on when you ask to try a bass out
Hi mate, this is in the wrong place but let me be the first of many to recommend the Gallery in Camden. No fuss, great stock and they know their onions! The other bass 'specialists' in London have always been rubbish when I've nipped in which is a shame so I'd only really say the above was worth a butchers. Ta
OK - I haven't had time to update... been pretty snowed under today.... but... here is something for you to check out. It's a take on a Spitfire... but with a difference... The customer loves the way that Bernie's basses play but wanted something very old school... with 21 frets. As the Spitfire body is made to accomodate a two octave neck, the standard body dimensions don't quite work or lend itself to a 21 fret neck. So..... This is the result, a completely passive (vol, vol, tone aka jazz circuit with your normal single coils...) jazz/spitfire mashup! Enjoy! More to follow when I get 5!
Thats mine! haha. I guess at the moment that really is one of a kind. I should put some pics up and contribute, tho it really is not a show piece for me but a practical, basic workhorse. Thanks for putting a pic on here. Cheers

Could be amp or bass issue...electrical buzzing
fingerz replied to Musicman20's topic in Amps and Cabs
I would say it's most likely to be the instrument being poorly earthed (you are earthing it by touching the strings). Ensure there is good connection between the bridge earth wire, any shielding in the cavity and the back of the pots to the earth connection on the output jack.
Yeh it sounds like you need to check the bass is earthed properly. -
The key is you can't chop between the two whilst playing without effecting your level. Get to the gig, decide which sound is more suitable and then set up the gain on the amp accordingly. Once you start playing you will have to commit to the mode chosen, unless you have a mo to reset your gain between tunes...

Wicked, I love her playing too, loads of feel. Easy to see why she had such a big impact, gotta check her live sometime then! Nice one
Not any more. Trying to be sensible... I have 2 basses, my fantastic Skjold and Alleva P - brilliant both of them. I have a BagEndS115D and the Compact with the Puma. My Ashdown head sounded fantastic with the BagEnd so hope to get that back soon but that's it for now.(Thanks Steve ) You are always more than welcome.
That's quite a modest collection for you!! Hang on..there's an Alleva in there, I take that back! Sounds good, those Tecamp's look interesting too. Cheers for the offer, I'll come over soon. Bring my stuff and my new custom which is due anyday. Take care.
Hi J How's it going? I have a BareFaced Compact and a Puma500 head I think you should come over and try! Cheers Steve
And the rest!! I'll be over soon, I'll be picking up a new passive 5 very soon so we could have a gear day. Cool, stay in touch Jo

Cool, sounds like they're worth a look. The big put-off for me is in the consistent lack of customer service/supply from Dr Bass themselves. ie if you were stuck with a problem and RIM were out of any parts you would be buggered. This is not a professional service from a company who claim to make pro gear. Shame, there's too many companies like that around. Thanks for the feedback

My current set up does me fine for nearly everything, I was thinking about getting a 410 or 2 12, 4 ohm cab for using on bigger gigs for head room (theres allways backline, its not like I want to own a stadium rig..) from time to time. Nothing urgent but I wanna do it in the near future.. I looked at Dr Bass cabs and see they're pretty well priced, light and powerful. This is the sort of money that would be great to throw at something that's not gunna be my main cab. Never seen one in the flesh, I know they are available over here. Has anyone played one? Own one? What do they sound like?
