1. I've had a Yamaha TRB mk2 4 string bass for years. It has a 35" scale so theres no reason you couldn't get it set up with your guages and get a decent B string tension. i used to use it all the time, they are great basses and for the money you can't go wrong. Well made, versatile etc.. Worth a look for sure. Cheers.
2. + 1. There are a few sites that explain serial no's of Fenders. I used one where I punched in the serial no and it told me the year and factory. Its a real fanatics game and theres lots of info online. Get hold of the serial no and you should find it easy to obtain the info. Here's the site http://www.guitardaterproject.org/fender.aspx It was accurate for me. You can then begin to value it... I would say that don't just value it on year/condition - Most important is that it does that 'thing' for you. I've found Fenders to vary alot, if it really does it for you then its gotta be worth it. If not then begin the epic hunt to find one that you really like.
3. I was the very proud owner of the GB before Steve and know it well. When people talk about good B strings, that bass sets the standard, end of. I know it'll be in great shape too so it's a good opportunity to own an awesome instrument.
4. I've always had 1st class service from the Gallery. In my experience they have been the only service who offer serious support to the working muso, and have the resources, knowledge and attitude to do so. They are totally professional and I know will sort you out asap. There is no b.s. with them and that for me is invaluable. Shame to read a bad exp on here. I'm glad to see there's well deserved support for them nonetheless. Cheers all.
5. I had to send an Amp back to Ashdown once. Although I was disappointed in having to do so, their service was great, they were really helpful and very reasonable. If you don't get any recommendations close to you then it seems like a good move to go with them. I reckon the price is good especially if it includes postage. (check that-I had to send it to them and they paid for it to get back).
6.
you cant ignore good ol' Larry Graham
+1. And Barry Johnson etc. Some people are just good enough (time feel + technique) to make it sound wicked. U should not slate the concept just cos you heard some guy down the pub you didnt really like. Its not really that debatable for me. And, no one's ever made me listen to anything I didn't like. I know where the stop button or the door is. We should support stuff that we like more, aspire to it, and put less energy into slagging off the stuff we don't. The stuff you hate, the next guy might love and have their own reasons for doing so. (I hate those people!!) Lol
7.
Er.... I'll take it? Jeez i know you want rid but giving it away? I'll at least pay the postage...
Ok, but the postage might be a little bit more than normal!! Lol

13. BASS IS SOLD. SORRY. MY BASS IS NOW FOR SALE FOR £1,650. THIS IS A FINAL OFFER. I'M DESPERATE FOR THE CASH SO SOMEONE'S GUNNA GET THE BEST DEAL AROUND !!! Hi there. I have a Skjold bass which I am looking to sell or possibly trade (please see further down page). These basses are awesome instruments and make an incredible sound. Its virtually brand spanking new and is hand made by Mr Skjold. This one is based on a jazz style body and offers versatile tones form more traditional jazz type sounds (thick and growly) to more modern 'zingy' sounds more similar to Celinder/Sadowsky etc. This is partly due to the Split Coil pups which retain the old school 'woody' tone without going down the humbucker route...Its really natural and fat sounding. It is fantastic to play and very rewarding. Here's the details: Body: Ash w/Maple top (check the grain in the picks) Neck: Maple 3 Piece Neck w/ Morado finger board. Frets: 21 + Zero fret for accurate intonation Hardware: Hipshot ultra light tuners. Custom Skjold bridge. Dunlop strap locks. All Black. Electronics: Skjold/East Preamp. Vol/Pan/Bass/Mid/Treble with frequency sweep inside cavity. Neutrik locking jack socket. Pups: Skjold Sc1. Custom wound split coil pickups. Weight: Around the 8/8.5 mark ! Very light indeed. Scale: 35" (great low
14. Yeh man. These guys are sick. No question. If Carlsberg did covers bands... Lol Glad to see them being recognised.
15. I've played this bass and it's awesome. There's a massive waiting list on these too + you'd eliminate the risks of a custom build. It's set up real good too. £££ bump!
16. Pete is a great guy and KNOWS what he's talking about. Its great that he's come on here - now any questions can be answered by the man himself! Welcome man. Best, Jo.
17. Re Fenders. i don't think USA guaruntees quality. I know someone with a usa and its wicked but often they just don't have the real jazz vibe going on. I own an old Jap Jazz that was quite cheap considering its age and its awesome - I love it. I know a pro who's played Jazz's all his life and recently bought a Jap 75 reissue brand new and uses it for virtually everything. So .. don't leave out the Japanese Fenders if you check some out. How was the GB?
18. 5 String: Skjold LP5 - Main bass 4 String: Fender Jazz Japan '86. 75 Re issue - Burning!
19.
Hey people. After buying a Sadowsky 5 (and loving it ) i want to get another 4 string..I have the chance to buy a GB Spitfire, which im going to try out this week.. .What should i expect from these basses, i have heard great things..This bass is roughly £1800, is this a good price for this instrument (in this current climate).. Bass Ferrett/Phsycoandy if your out there...are they Sadowsky like, or something totally different, i have heard the electronics are very powerfull..Can i expect a Jazz growl or more of a modern punch?? Any thought appreciated!!
I agree on the price especially if its been used - seems pretty expensive. If its new then I suppose its about right. Call Bernie to just ask him about it he remembers his basses and will always look after you. I owned one until recently. Gigged it for three years and it was solid. I think GB's are very well made and will last a lifetime and some.. Very modern/hifi sounding with classic looks. I always found the treble a bit full on but thats personal, theres no doubt they are awesome top to bottom. V classy. Like anything if you get on with it then buy it and enjoy! These are not old school basses in sound. IMO they create great, versatile sounds equivalent to any modern bass. They do not take the old school thing further. They are very fat and beefy! Piece of p*** to play too.
20.
Skoda Octavia MkII here - Very adaptable & the boot is absolutely huge. Had a Superb before this one & it was huge in the boot dept., but the aperture was too slim for decent sized amps/cabs. The very best for gear was my Citroen Berlingo. Because it's van based you can fit as much gear as you can dream up in the back, even covered over with the sets up. Have a look at medium MPV's in general. Huge carrying room! Rich.
I also have an Octavia. Boot is bloody huge so no puttin the seats down for my rig. When you have to leave gear in the car its all covered under the shelf - even if it is for 5 mins while you check logistics of a gig/rehearsal location before unloading. X-long histox bass case will go in the boot. Good boot if you want a saloon shape motor. VW/Audi bits too so runs a dream. Mine's oretty basic inside but economical as you like. Good to read about all the gig wagons on here... Has anyone noticed how our cars are worth about half the value of our bass rigs?! Mint.
