  1. Thanks for this Binky, absolutely excellent - creative, tongue in cheek, super clever. πŸ‘ The track Moon and Moron is pure Cardiacs ! Just have a look at the on screen lyrics in this video for the opening track - it doesn't get better than this ! 😁
  2. Russ Stableford was the session bass player used for Everlasting Love. There was a big fuss made by the tabloid media at the time when it was revealed that none of the band had actually played on the record, it was all session players. Well, who would have thought ? 😏 I played with Love Affair for a while in the mid '70's, (I think I was their 13th bass player !) so I know that song backwards. Despite the appalling quality, the extracted bass line that Woodinblack has posted does sound like the original to me. And this really is a song where muted pick playing is essential !
  3. Some information for the less informed, like myself - http://aws2.gibson.com/News-Lifestyle/Gear-Tech/en-us/What-the-Heck-is-PLEK.aspx
  4. Well, surely they're harder on rounds ? - I know I'd certainly find them harder just because of the nature of the strings - coarse and edgy as opposed to smooth and silky. Mind you, seems some people refer to glissando when what they're actually doing is hammering on a semitone - slightly different effect IMHO. You do a little gliss right at the end of your recording - excellent by the way! - and I can't work out whether you're using a sliding gliss or hammering. Sounds good either way ! πŸ™‚ PS Ernie Ball cobalts are my favourite flats πŸ‘
  5. Thanks for posting this Ped - a new listen for me, and gold plated A1 stuff. Singer's phrasing reminds me of iamddb. Can't find the name of the bass player, but an absolute master of discreet glissando and ghost notes, and a great ad for the PJ sound, which I love. Here's another track:
  6. - That's a brilliant idea ! - I'd certainly watch Rick doing a series on that theme. Let the pain begin................
  7. What's this ? Now someones autotuned Sarah Brand's track ! 😏
  8. .......or possibly only just starting to realise what they've got involved with............
  9. Johnathan Richman - Abominable Snowman in the Market - he's down by the peas and carrots, apparently..............
  10. Does this mean I have to turn up late for rehearsals with my high maintenance girlfriend, turn my amp up to 11 and widdle away endlessly whilst the rest of the band are trying to work out some harmony parts ? ...Thought so ! 😁
  11. Marmite was not the first thing that came to mind when you said that .......... ☹️
  12. I'd like some deodorant, please. Yes sir, Ball or aerosol ? Oh, isn't there one that can do both ?
  13. It's about as real as rocking horse poo............
  14. Yes - and the only conclusion to reach is that life's a b*tch ☹️
  15. Yes, but the bar staff are serving beer which the customers are already prepared to pay money for ! The band may be serving up music which the customers are only prepared to taste if it's a free sample.
  16. Here's an analogy, Daz. Would it be reasonable for a shop to ask window shoppers to pay a fee just for looking in the window? The answer is clearly no, and similarly as a musician or a band you're setting out your stall of whatever music/entertainment you're offering, and maybe people will come and have a look . Then if a demand builds up because people like what you do maybe you can start charging. But not until that point has been reached. πŸ™‚
  17. Well, Higgie, your Welsh Wizard has done an A1 job on the arrangement for the medley - faultless. And you're no slouch in the playing department either - love the clear open B on the Sadowsky at 2.42 !
  18. Hey, that's a bit rich. Jolene on reception at the studio did have a bit of a weight problem, but James never called her a fat rascal. And as for the curd tarts, - well, they were just there for a 'work experience week'. Apparently.
  19. Ah - now I know what to do with my knackered old roundwounds - - just advertise them as 'authentic Jamerson style relic -ed reissues' 😁
  20. Can somebody explain how the bass (or guitar) is attached to the stand?
  21. Sorry mate, missed your comment somehow. Yep, could be, any offers? πŸ™‚
  22. False endings/encores are nothing new and are all part of a show - in music hall days this device was known as a 'false tab' ('tabs' being the side curtains on a stage) I don't get why some people are so wound up by this idea. Just enjoy playing music and listening to music, whatever..
  23. So here's a guy called Nate Wood - he plays bass and drums and two synths and sometimes sings - and all at the same time, live. Very clever and obviously talented, but........err.......why ?
  24. I can't imagine I'm the only person to have to Google this to find out what you're on about. Just to help the uninitiated: Record Store Day is the one day of the year when over 200 independent record shops all across the UK come together to celebrate their unique culture. Special vinyl releases are made exclusively for the day and many shops and cities host artist performances and events to mark the occasion. Thousands more shops celebrate the day around the globe in what’s become one of the biggest annual events on the music calendar.
  25. Martin McAloon was a seriously underrated creative bass player - Prefab Sprout were a superb band with Paddy McAloon's beautifully crafted songs. I always felt their rather silly name never did them any favours, but their music still sounds refreshingly good 40 or so years after it was released. 😊
