  1. I've worked in covers bands since the dawn of time. Well, nearly. You can get something out of most songs if you try hard enough. My personal exception to this is Let me Entertain You, but we all have our pet hates. And if you really can't extract any joy from a song, just enjoy watching the crowd enjoying themselves as the band plays, and smile. ๐Ÿ˜Š
  2. I wouldn't bother taking a spare bass with me to a regular gig - never had a passive bass go down on me in the rather too many years to mention that I've been playing. But I always take a spare amp head, as an amp going down right in the middle of a gig has happened just too many times.
  3. Bass players, eh ? Sort out the leads Sort out the diary Set up the PA Drive the van Know where they're going .....lets face it, we're bl**dy brilliant ! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘
  4. Tim, my tongue was so firmly wedged in my cheek that I might take several days to recover
  5. No, Cecilia was from Simon and Artfunkel's album Bridge of Sighs. You know, the one where the bass fill is played forwards and then backwards. Or maybe I'm getting confused............... too easy, these days.
  6. In case you haven't seen this, this is from Clarky's status update - interesting replies.
  7. Ooooh! - here's the isolated bass for Primus - Jerry was a Race Car Driver............. Les Claypool was on some different planet, surely.......๐Ÿ˜ฒ Really, really worth a listen if you're not familiar with this.
  8. Their presentation is more than a bit annoying at times - it's really not that funny guys - but the content is interesting enough. Seemed like they were going to slag the song off at the beginning, but then went on to discuss just how clever it was - but i expect that was the production plan all along so as to get those clicks and eyeballs ............
  9. There's also this........ more brass, more funk, more bass solo, more Cory, you get the idea.
  10. No !! You can't do that - we're all waiting with bated breath for the next instalment......... (Cue Archers music - rumpy pumpy diddly doo, rumpy pumpy doo dah.............etc)
  11. It all sounds very British and deliciously bonkers...... Must admit, maybe I'm a bit jealous - seems like you'll have some great after dinner stories to tell from this experience. ๐Ÿ˜
  12. Not usually a massive fan of Dirty Loops - their sound is too over produced for my taste - but here they get together with Cory Wong (usually with Vulfpeck) and knock 'Thriller' into a previously unknown dimension. Enjoy. ๐Ÿ™‚
  13. Jeeez! - OK, doesn't sound particularly remarkable by modern standards, but it's 1969 and he's 18 years old. His phrasing and style was so way ahead of the general game at that time, a pointer to the future.
  14. - I think she was at her best with that line up - I've never understood why she dropped it in favour of Jackson on bass, Simon Philips on drums and no guitarist. 'The Fuse' on guitar gave the band an element of spontaneity which I think the later line up lacked. ๐Ÿ˜ Other opinions are available !
  15. Is this reply to the Morrissey wannabe the work of a BCer ??? If so, you've summed it up beautifully. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘
  16. I could have written this myself, my friend. I've been there so many times with bands over the years I know exactly where you're at ! ๐Ÿ˜
  17. Errr..........yes -so that'll be you and me, and, oh, maybe about 99% of other BCers ! ๐Ÿ™‚
  18. I feel for you mate, these things happen to us all. Finding the right people to play in a band is always the No 1 issue. In my experience, potential musos for semi pro bands are likely to fall into 4 categories: A. Bl**dy good โ€“ and they know it. Likely to disappear at a moments notice if they get a sniff of something better. B. Good, but 'mature' -and they stopped listening to music around 1980 and havenโ€™t progressed since. C. Good, but completely flaky and unreliable โ€“ chances of them turning up at a gig (a) on the correct day (b) with all their gear in working order and (c) having learnt all the material = zero D. Absolutely tone deaf apart from one or two show-off party pieces they always trot out. I hope you manage to find better. ๐Ÿ™‚
  19. Whole bunch of lawsuits here....... Still, they can afford it.
  20. Their arrangement of Midnight at the Oasis was sublime -a really essential cover to learn for any aspiring bass player ๐Ÿ™‚
  21. I think you'll find them in the next file along from "Americans who didn't realise that Spinal Tap were a parody band"
