  1. Music changed dramatically in my teens, but here are 3 from those 6 six years: Cum on feel the noize - Slade Sultans of swing - Dire Straits Trampled Underfoot - Led Zep
  2. Quality purchase, you must be completely made up.
  3. This is great news. You do my favourite online reviews, Dan.
  4. If I’d have bought a walnut one instead of my fireglo maple, I might still have it. The walnut ones are so much lighter. Good shout on the bezel, they are a great addition. I bought my Ric in much the same way as you @Old Horse Murphy, I went looking for budget 5 strings, played the Ric (to see if they were still as awful as I remembered from a previous experience; it wasn’t, obviously) and realised I had to have it. Unfortunately, the weight, balance and lack of forearm contour meant I had to move it on ☹️. Iconic basses with a great sound (YMMV).
  5. Perfect height for me to put my hand over the side and reach tea, beer, tablet or phone.
  6. Not the person who inspired to pick up the low end machine, but certainly someone who wowed me at an early age: Joe Fagin (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Fagin). He used to play at a local pub in my youth with a drummer and keyboardist (IIRC it was just an organ). Having a great voice and full on front man charisma, not to mention great bass chops (first bass player I ever saw use chords on the bass) was enough to have this six string playing youngster spellbound on a Sunday lunchtime (their rendition of Tim Rose’s Morning Dew was stunning). He was also generous with his time, happy to share playing tips with my bass playing buddy. Other pub band players who have also drawn my attention and admiration (eventually leading to my full-time switch to the bass) were the late Andy Brown (B-Sharp) and Chris Childs (Bad Influence at the time, but now better known for playing in Thunder. Another top chap, happy to chat about gear, etc).
  7. That’s is sad, but I commend his decision. Burke is the Welsh Geddy in terms of voice and principal instrument. I do like me some Budgie.
  8. Such a lot of bass for the money. I had a 1605, those Big Singles are great.
  9. Likewise (except for the Wal owning part ) and I agree, it was the right thing to do and what a result. The chaps at The Gallery are really good at what they do.
  10. Nice one. However, we have a rule here on BC: photos or it didn’t happen 😉.
  11. First concert - Blue Jays 1976 RAH Last concert - Steven Wilson 2019 RAH Best concert - Thunder 2007 Astoria Worst concert - Walter Trout ? Boom Boom Club Sutton Loudest concert - Rory Gallagher 197? Hammersmith (PA started to make me nauseated). Most surprising - Thunder 2007 Astoria (so good, wasn’t expecting it). Next concert - ? Wish I would have seen - Peter Gabriel circa 1985 Wish I could see again - Eric Johnson

    NND!

I tried playing with my ears, but they kept rolling over and my chin was continually muting. I don’t recommend it. Oh, is that my coat? It’s ok, I’ll get it myself.
  13. I’m in Purley and you’re welcome to try mine. Thanks @Frank Blank for tagging me.
  14. I doubt moving the button position just a couple of mm will make a masdive difference. However, you could try drilling the snapped screw out. IIRC there is also a reverse thread product that allows you to screw into the broken one and once tight, removes the broken shank.
  15. I posted on page one that Pino was the reason that I picked the bass up. However, what I didn't mention was that some years after switching to bass, i was asked to play guitar in a band, which resulted in me going back to to the skinny stringed thing full time (for shame ). However, I still continued to really enjoy the low end of recordings and live acts more than the other elements. The start of the returning point was when I was listening to an Eric Johnson live album whilst doing the ironing (very rock and roll, I know 🤘) and really listening to what Chris Maresh was doing behind EJ, it occurred to me that that was what I wanted to do, support the song/lead musician, whilst still being to do my own thing. Here's a track from that album (fast forward to 1:50 to avoid the guitar intro shenanigans) And another written by Maresh
  16. I was heavily influenced by The Shadows and not their ‘60s contemporaries and their music still holds a certain magic for me. I shall check this program out as soon as. Back in the ‘80s when I was still a six stringer, I was looking at tremolo systems to see which one I got on best with. I was in a shop in London giving a Kahler (my favourite whammy) a fair amount of abuse, when I looked up and there was Hank B himself. I shamefacedly put down the guitar and beat a hasty exit for fear that I would offend his ears further. He was shorter than I’d imagined.
  17. Larry Coryell at The Crystal Palace Bowl in ‘76. Clapton was the headline. T’Pau supporting Nik Kershaw at The Town & Country, ‘87.
  18. You are not wrong and I do combine the two, Owner Of A Lonely Heart immediately springs to mind. However, for some songs, especially if I'm using another effect (chorus or octave) I find it better without the OD. So many folk forget, or don't even realise, that Boz played fretless. What a guy.
  19. I tend to have mine on most of the time too (mild drive/growl) but I do switch it off for some songs, particularly when using fretless.
  20. I was playing with mine yesterday and it does make a great sound (or should I say, great sounds), but I was thinking that maybe I should try something else, especially as I don’t have a lot of experience with dirt boxes for bass (my only other one being an MXR M80). However, reading the above makes me think I’m probably set. GAS averted (for these at least), well certainly for the time being .
