  1. I suppose I was hoping there would miraculously be a drop in replacement that worked perfectly 🤣🤣
  2. Thanks! I’ve been following all the build threads - you guys are awesome! Still at the pondering stage, really. I want to get it useable again, but need to examine the construction to see how easy it would be for me to do. As a dad of 3 young’uns, I always have an extensive list of “more important” things to do first, so this may take a while!!! I will, of course, keep everyone updated here!
  3. Ooh! That middle one!! Winner!!!
  4. I reckon 8cm max so it wouldn’t interfere with the driver surround. Would that mean multiple ports?
  5. Thanks for the replies so far. I’m certainly not expecting much from it, however I did gig it regularly (sometimes without PA support) for about ten years, so it wasn’t unusable with the EV. Just really heavy! I’ve got a Barefaced/Ampeg gig rig now, so this is just a pretty combo for the studio, but might take out occasionally. I suppose I could plug the rear vents and pop some ports around the driver? I’ve got space, just...
  6. Hello. I have an old Peterson P150 combo, with a lovely mahogany cabinet, and a now departed EV12L. The stupid bit: I actually sold the driver because I wasn’t that enamoured with the sound, and it weighed far too much. I had considered just selling the combo as a whole a few times before pulling the driver, but I like the way it looks, and very, very occasionally I develop sentimental attachments to objects, this being one of them. So, I know the cabinet is just shy of 35 litres, which ain’t fantastic for bass, but it is what it is, so I’m just after getting the best out of those dimensions. Now the tricky bit: the ports are slots either side of the cabinet. 41cm high, 3cm wide, 24cm deep, but, the slot ports are fed by a 1cm x 41cm gap at the back of the enclosure. How do I work out port dimensions for that odd shape?! If any speaker cabinet ninjas could point me in the direction of a suitable, light-ish 12” that will work in that space, with those weird ports, I would be very happy and grateful!!!!
  7. Parchment or tort 😂😂😂
  8. That looks great! Had a weird thought; what about a light laminate/detail line going across the fret board following the shape of the back of the bass (upper to lower horn contour)? Obvs not for this one as it’s almost done!
  9. Oh yes. Very yes!
  10. I’d also say all the way to the pickup!
  11. I’ve been planning a building for some years (got the foundation in!). I can’t see it being any different to having nice gear in the house. If someone wants something bad enough, they’ll go get it. CCTV images are good to have, but seeing as much of it as I do, the perpetrators just don’t give a sh!t!! A decent lock or two on a decent door, things to put people off like gravel leading up to the door (noisy to walk on), spikey plants at boundaries, a long walk to the front door (rather than a door straight out on to the street).
  12. Always amazes me how much bits of a Fender go for. Surely most of the goodness is in the neck anyway?
  13. Let’s all just be friends, yeah?! Lockdown is getting to all of us, so we’ll chalk it up to that and be nicer henceforth 😎
  14. I had one like that but black scratchplate and truss cover. Bloody awful thing! I would have turned my nose up at any Kay, but seeing what @Maude did to one, I’m smitten!
  15. I had been using Guitar Tuna. Now I have also downloaded the Boss app 😂 Just hope I don’t start trying to stand on my smart phone...
  16. I couldn’t tell you - someone else on the tellybox did the maths. Just blows my mind though. It’s all relative. My cheap bass would be a luxury accessory to many in the world. I’m not really arguing either way though - people find their level, and that’s cool with me. We’re lucky to be in a position to be talking about it all I guess. That fender in the first post though... 🤮
  17. I’m a distinctly average player, so I feel that only justifies me owning a distinctly average bass 😂 The whole money argument is a bit mental when you really think about it. If you own a house in the UK you fall in to the top 5% of wealthiest on the planet. How crazy is that?!
  18. That example is disgusting 🤣🤣🤣. I don’t get the relic thing. If I ever win the lottery, I’ll buy loads of old messed up fenders and refinish them. In poly.
  19. Here we have my mystery Perspex Strat that I’ve owned since the mid 90’s! It is unbranded, with the only markings being “made in Japan” on the neck plate, and “special made” on the very top of the headstock. My research so far leads me to believe it is either a Clearsound or a Bellwood, both of which are sought after collectors pieces. The neck is a beautiful flamed maple with walnut skunk stripe, and is incredibly shallow from the fretboard face to the skunk stripe. I’m no guitarist, but I’m told it’s beautiful to play. There is a string tree missing, and the frets have been flattened over the years. The guitar came to me with just the bridge pickup, no controls or scratch-plate. The body had some work done to it unfortunately (before my custodianship) - looks like it was routed to take a different tremolo unit (though it appears the original is there now). It’s also had a non-original scratch-plate fitted (that was 16yr old me - stupid boy!) so has another set of holes drilled. There’s a Kent Armstrong SVT-1R in the middle position, and another Kent Armstrong of some sort in the neck position (can’t check it without taking it all apart). It’s a heavy beast - 4.5kg. Comes with a nice velvet lined hard case. It’ll be well packed, and sent by courier, fully insured. If you think I’m not quite right on pricing, I’m happy to entertain offers 👍🏻
  20. I’ve had 4 sets off @KiOgon - great stuff. My two current P’s also have Tonerider pickups, which are apparently very close to the custom shops you are considering. I have no direct comparison experience, but they sound great to me.
  21. Love the wood choice. I’d like a walnut bodied bass some day. I also like the contrast of shiny chrome 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
  22. I de-ratted a cab before. Took bloody ages! After watching all the dusty bits come out, I was glad I did though - that stuff is nasty!
  23. I prefer the smaller set, visually. How well does it stack?
