1. Did it sell for $16,000 at auction? http://www.guitarsquid.com/Latest/townshen...ls-for-50k.html
2. I'd like 130 V - who has that?
3.
Image is a powerful thing. I love the look of those slab sided 51 reissues but I bet they sound like pants with that little single coil pickup. When bassists go on Jools show they know it just wouldn't look cool with a blue metallic 5 string Ibanez around their neck (even though they may have recorded the album with it). So they get the old Fender from under the bed to satisfy their stylist.
Those slab sided 51 reissues actually sound great. You should try one.
4. I have been looking at a 1982 Rickenbacker and the neck binding is on the fingerboard wood. If you look at the neck from the side, you see the binding then 0.5cm of fingerboard and then the neck wood. Is this normal?
5.
Yeah, I want something from 1983 - but what was actually good back then ? It certainly isn't Fenders.
How about Ibanez, Aria, Wal, Shergold, Ned Burns, Peavey T40, Stingray...
6.
Why is that?
Because I'm not very good at upright - I just move my fingers until the note sounds good. On a fretted bass or a fretless bass I'll know the note, but on the upright I would have to work it out.
7.
A certain Mr Hendrix begs to differ: I've been playing recently with a guitarist who not only generally doesn't know what notes/chords she's playing, but also uses loads of non-standard tunings, multiple capos and complex voicings.
Same here. He has no idea what he's playing. If I play upright, neither do I. I wouldn't change it.

VB day!

I realised earlier today that I didn't to give you the power cable. I wasn't deliberately being a cheapskate, I just forgot. I hope you have some spare ones. Steve

12. I offered this for trade a while back, now for sale. At the moment, I'm going to ask for collection or meet up only. I am based in Worcester. 1985, Sycamore facings. Refinished and serviced by Pete Stevens around five years ago and not used since. 13.
Didnt XTC use a rick copy? And John Mcnally from the Searchers had a hofner club, cant remember the model
Peter Hook Rick copy. On TV and everything. Bruce Foxton Rick copy.
14. In Fender Jazz (60s style, burgundy) Fender fretless A/E precision
15. For the last three years I have wanted the Rickenbacker C64S. I played one yesterday, I don't want one anymore. I would have been so disappointed if I had bought one mail order. I think we need more bass chat gatherings so we can try out lots of basses and consume the desire.
16. By "unseen", I really mean without playing them before buying. How many people here have bought a bass unseen and then kept it for several years? I've had a Rickenbacker C64 for 3 years. All the other unseens were sold within a year of purchase.
17.
I'm not particularly interested but the wife asked besides the obvious bass itself, an amp and a lead what are the essential bits of kit? Mine, probably my gig bag (I don't like my bass getting damaged) and my iPod. The iPod for practicing songs. It's a boring thread so if you're not interested don't feel obliged.
Tuner Allen key Stand Good strings
18.
you know on the 51's Telecaster type P bass the mute was fitted on the metal cover which was placed on the single coil pickup dulling the sound on purpose to mimic that of a double bass, or so Leo though... *giggle*
I read somewhere that 51 pickup cover mutes were because the bass amps at the time couldn't handle unmuted.
19. Does anyone here have the Wal now?
20. When my company made me redundant and then changed their mind, they bought me a US sixties Jazz to persuade me to do some work. I will never sell it.
21. I am using an Acoustic Image amp Bergantino EX112ER with an Eminence double bass. I sometime use a Summit preamp too. I went to Bass Direct with the intention of buying an AE112, but the EX was enough of an improvement for me to accept the extra weight. The AE112 was good enough though. I also use the same set up for electric bass. I've had the amp for around 3 years and the cab for two. I previously used the amp with a mix of Ashdown and Wizzy cabs, a Sansamp pedal and a Fender Bassman amp. I've not looked back.
22. A few weeks ago, a tuner on my CR5M just snapped right off. I emailed NS Design and they sent me a replacement. No Fuss. My wife bought me a gig bag from Overwater so she's on their mailing list. Last month we won a draw for a free set of strings.
23. I used to work five minutes from Bass Direct and was the first customer in the new shop. I was using two different amps (a Fender Bassman and an Acoustic Image) and different combinations of four speakers depending on the gig. Spent some time at Bass Direct trying different speakers and preamps and I now have the Acoustic Image, a valve preamp and two speakers. I think Mark actually saved me a little money. Steve
24. Dunlop 2mm '73 reissue (the Japanese reissue, not the Inferior Mexican)
