1.
I agree with you. I played a Fender Pino Palladino Relic Precision at GAK in Brighton. It would not have been impossible for the staff to have relieved me of in excess of 2000 quid if it hadn't been a relic. Well, if I'd actually had £2000 as well. Mind you, would rejecting a relic that felt perfect and sounded perfect for you also be a mistake?
I always thought relic basses were really dumb. "Why oh why" I would think. Played a Pino Relic Precision in New York City and it followed me home. My favourite bass of all time. Steve

 3. This is a long story, the story of my Pino Custom Shop Precision bass. Until recently my job meant that I travelled to the US five or six times a year. As luck would have it. my December 2006 visit to Atlanta coincided with my brother's business trip to New York. This meant I had a four day holiday in New York at no cost to me. It was a great four days. Before I set off, I ordered a very nice Rickenbacker bass from a west coast dealer for delivery to my Atlanta office during my stay. So, first night in New York my brother asks "What would have to happen for you to buy a bass in New York as well as the one you have already ordered?" My reply was "no way will I buy another bass. It's greedy. selfish, expensive, it will be difficult to get them home etc." You can guess the rest. Next day we called into Guitar Center. They had some relic guitars on display. The conversation with my brother went along the lines of... "How old do you think this guitar is?" "I don't know" "It's brand new. They make them like that." "Who would buy one that's already scratched?" "I don't know, it's stupid. People pay extra for the ageing" You can guess the rest. I'd always though relics were just dumb, but when I saw the Pino high up on the wall in the bass section, I though I'd give it a try. It was the best bass I have ever played, and I've played and owned a number of £1,000+ basses. So that trip I brought home two basses. The CS was/is worth every penny. If I had to keep just three basses, this is the electric bass I would keep. Certainly worth seeking one out and giving them a try. but I wouldn't necessarily buy one without playing it....just because I like mine doesn't mean you will like yours. Steve
 4.
Well, there's probably some merit to that suggestion if there's visual consistency. As far as my own personal preference goes, I'd probably prefer to have as much content tucked inside Basschat as possible. How much information and anecdotal background could be attached to the images? Would the images/associated text help Basschat's search engine rankings or Flickrs?
I agree; the best approach would be an application with content owned, managed and stored on basschat servers. Unfortunatley, I don't know how to do that. The application is a Flex/flash application that can be embedded in a web page. Script accesses the Flickr API to get the photographs. I can/will add descriptions and comments for each photo, but again this data will be stored in the Flickr database. I don't know much about searchwords, but I'd be happy to modify the HTML wrapper so that Basschat gets the benefit in the search rankings - you just have to tell me how to do this. Again, if you think this adds value to basschat, I would be happy to work with you to make this fit with your preferred aproach. Thanks Steve
 5.
Would this be embedded within the wiki or within flickr's own database?
The photos would be stored at the flickr website so anyone could easily upload to their own flickr account. The actual viewer could embedded within basschat and use the same colour scheme and theme as basschat...with the basschat moderators permission of course. In short, it could look and behave like a part of basschat, with storage at flickr.
 6. What if we did something like the link below. This is by no means finished (I wrote it yesterday) It searches the flickr photo service for all photos with @basschat in the description, but also searches using the word(s) you enter. So, entering Fender will bring back all photos uploaded by basschat members - that's just me, but any of you could use this. You just need a flickr account, upload your picture, enter your description. enter @basschat as part of the description and make the photo public. The categories section is currently a predefined keyword search - click on the Wal category. In theory, I could add an upload feature that allows you to tag photos with our predefined words - i.e. drop down lists for manufacturer, model, colour....I could then build this into the search. Anyone interested? http://databass.awardspace.com/DataBass.swf Steve
 7.
You need 25 songs (for 2 x 45 min sets) and a good quality 3-track demo CD. Then you're good to go. Or befriend a friendly pub landlord and get them to take you on half price for the first gig.
Or two songs and an open mic night.
 8. The price you pay for a bass depends on how much disposable income you have. When I was sixteen, I never imagined ever having the money to buy more than one bass...or to spend more than £300 on a bass. Now I have more than one bass. The most I have paid is just under £2,000. I can't imagine spending more than £2,200 on a bass...but who knows, when I get my earnings up to £500,000 per year and my mortgage has gone my limit might be £2,500. I'd like a late sixties Rickenbacker. I've never had one, but I would pay £2,200 for one. Steve
 9.
More than Hmmmm I can assure you, QUOTE If you can get to £580.00 I will meet you at J25, M1 before you go to Manchester in the morning nah sorry mate, there's no way i can drop that low. If you're interested in paying the advertised amount or a very close offer then I will let you know the next time I'm coming through london and we might be able to get a deal done. Cheers, Ben
If anyone wants to make an offer on any of the basses I have for sale, go right ahead. If the offer is too low, I'll politely turn you down. "Thank you for your offer. Unfortunately, I am not able to sell the bass for that price at this time" £550 sounds about right as an opening offer for a Stingray. Everybody be cool. Steve
 10. You could try this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Acoustic-Image-FOCUS...1QQcmdZViewItem It works pretty well Steve

 12.
I've seen this bass for sale from three different sellers now. I'd stay away if I were you.
Yes - be very careful. Three different sellers, three different location, always the same pictures. Auction always ends early.

 15. For what it's worth, I think that's a good price. I sold a Maplelo Rickenbacker here for £850 around six months ago. Since then the price has gone up and these basses seem harder to find.
Right then everyone, as a result of me sellin this on behalve of a mate and not actually knowing anything about it i decide to look into the price and have decided to reduce it to £900. As i said before, this really is a great example of a stunning bass. Any offers?
16. I've been using this forum and the predecessor or a while, but I've never introduced myself as I like to watch rather than post. I read the post about people using the "For Sale" facilities without introducing themselves and thought "That sounds like me". I like it here, so I thought I'd say hello. I have more basses than talent. Current gig favourites are Rickenbacker C64, a Pino Precision and an upright electric. I play with Worcester-based Marina Del Ray. I've sold a Rickenbacker here, a Takamine acoustic/upright (B10) and a Kydd Piccolo. On each occasion, I've not been in a particular to rush to sell and just left the posts out there. The Takamine and Kydd both sold to people who were looking for those specific instruments and found Basschat by using Google to search for those instruments. I like the idea that I can leave the adverts up until the right person comes around. Thanks to all for an interesting and entertaining site!!! Steve
 17. Now sold. Thanks to bassworld for allowing me to sell here.
 18.
Entwistle's collection of guitars and basses was auctioned at Sotheby's in London by his son, Christopher Entwistle, to meet anticipated duties on his father's estate. Joy Division/New Order bassist Peter Hook is among those who acquired some of Entwistle's basses at the auction. (Wiki) In May 2003, I got the catalogue in advance with the idea of buying one to have as a showpiece on the wall in the Ad agency I then ran. The catalogue is something itself. Hundreds of colour photos of his collection, but the guide prices for each instrument were way high. I even intended to go to the auction, out of interest. In the end I didn't bid or go, but I do have the catalogue to enjoy. Assuming the gear got sold, there must be an awful lot of ex-Entwistle basses out there!
The auction was great. Viewing was the day before. All of the instruments were on stands - you just picked them up and played them; you didn't even have to ask first!!! I played a lot of basses that day. I'm pretty sure that most of the basses sold for way above the estimate. I sat behind Peter Hook during the auction. He bought a Gretsch acoustic bass and an Overwater. My only regret is that i didn't buy two basses that day - the Wal fretless seemed expensive then, but low-cost now. In the Guy Pratt book he says something like "I once had a bass owned by John Entwistle. That's nothing special though; almost every bass player has owned an Entwistle bass"
 19. My Taylor acoustic bass was once owned by John Entwistle.
 20.
When did someone put a big notice on BC saying 'Sell Here'? This has been aired any amount of times BUT... Is it just me that feels we may well be turning into feeless fleabay?
When someone created a group of forums in the "Basschat Marketplace" section. Steve
 21. I have a (not master built) Custom Shop Pino precision. The best I ever played.
