1. Thanks for all the PMs - I am working through them. Some people asked for more.
 2. I might be interested in trading one of my Wal basses for a sixties Fender. The middle one in this picture is no more, so select the top bass or the bottom bass. More details and pictures available. I am in Worcester, but travel. Thanks Steve
 3. I was at that auction. I bought this... 4. It's very good. Not what you want to know but...

Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.30pm, but you can start a little later and/or finish a little earlier
On the website, it says you can make a standard precision or jazz style bass with a simple lacquer finish - you do have some freedom to make something a little more sophisticated, but there is only so much time.
You make the body, neck and fingerboard from raw wood.
Wood and hardware is high quality.
Typically use light machinery and hand tools
You'll make mistakes
6. I use an Acoustic Image amp with a Summit preamp. Both appear to be rack mountable (the amp has the mounts and a kit is available for the preamp). Both units are half standard width. How would I mount these in a rack? Thanks Steve
 7.
Thanks! I was having a play after work today, Im just so pleased. The balance is perfect, it looks cool and I can get all of the P-type sounds I need from it. Really good rock bass and I'd suspect it would do some pretty good funk tones too. Theres only three problems, and they are probably very minor but they bug me cos its mine: * The pickup route in the scratchguard is not quite centered in the strings, so Ive had to move the strings over towards the treble side a little. Schaller 2000 bridge made this really easy! I'll eventually make a new scratchguard. * The neck has a few dips and bumps. Its slimmest at the 5th fret but then gets thicker by a very small amount towards the volute. * The HIDEOUS three dots! Im tempted to keep all these imperfections as a reminder not to rush, and plan and measure EVERYTHING! But Im totally hooked on this building thing - Im planning another bass (after Merts of course), same thing but a little different...
Mike, My neck has a few bumps too, but I still like it. Where will you make your next bass? Steve
 8. And the finished bass... 10. I hope Chris doesn't mind me adding to his thread rather than starting a new one...I just thought it'd be OK as I was on the course with him last week. 11.
Can anybody suggest what to do before the dreaded ebay??? anyone??? Alex
Alex, This may sound a little dumb, but it has worked for me on at least three occasions. Change the title of the thread to "Mo Clifton Electric Double Bass / Electric Upright Bass / EUB for sale". The search engines will pick this up and you'll get a sale for someone new to Basschat. This worked for me when I sold a KYDD Piccolo, a Takamine eub and a Bridge eub. Each time, just as I was about to give up on the sale, someone picked it up via Google. Steve
 12.
Very enjoyable thread, and it seems a shame to spoil it by asking a serious question, but is that a 1-piece back? The photos are very clear but I can't make out a join down the centre. If it's a 1-piece back then it's most unusual to see that with 'Blade' pickups; as far as I remember (without digging through my reference books) the 1-piece back was used briefly in the late 50's and then again for 1964 only.
I've just taken a look, it's a two piece back. Each piece is about the size of one square of Cadbury's Dairy Mil. Steve

 15. Any comments on this? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=160336840819
