1.
I got one delivered today. Just had a quick play & for the money sounds/plays pretty good out the box. The pickup is worth about £25 on its own & its comes with Daddario strings so it seems great value so far. I'll update this if I have anymore info but I found the online reviews pretty helpful.
The weight is the main thing putting me off, my HB Jazz was far too heavy, so just interested in weight...
2. Out of interest, has anyone tried a Harley Benton PB50? Tempted to pick one up and give this whole 50s P bass thing a go.
3. Its strange to see how different and pale it looks without the varnish. Cant wait to see it with the veneer on now though...
4. Interesting watch. Did nothing to curb my '50s P Bass GAS like, but good nonetheless.
5.
Oh I would. I had a HB Jazz - it was a great sounding bass and there weren't any real flaws with it, other than the fact it was pretty heavy.
I agree, HBs are very good VFM. Plus my bass vi gas is making me want to buy it even more...
6. bought a hiscox hard case from Rich, dropped straight to the door, quick and easy transaction, nice bloke. Would recommend
7. Hi all, looking to buy a decent quality pedalboard from somewhere that will fit half a dozen or so pedals. I already have a power supply so that isnt an issue. Looking to spend no more than £60 on a board that is well made with Velcro and decently sized that can be transported in a bag easily. Any recommendations? Been looking at a pedaltrain nano+ or sometging similar.
8. looks cool imo, want to get all of the basses I own in working order first though.
9.
Maybe you can put a little 'time capsule' inside one of the cavities?
I like that idea. Just what to put in...
10.
Looking good so far. Will the tuners be swooped for lightweight ones, as is often done?
Maybe. I do want black or golden ones in there so they will be swapped, but as for lightweight or not - depends on balance when its reassembled. If it would benefit from lightweight tuners then sure, but if it isnt too much of an issue, then simple ones will do the job.
11. I for one like the cream colouring. Looks even more retro, like its a spaceship from an old sci-fi film. Id love to see it and hear it when its done.
12. My old bass teacher from way back when had one. He was called Mark too. Could it be?
13. And that appears to be about the only one around 😑. May be another project in the works later down the line Andy.
14. Keep it cream mate. Looks retro.
15. Does such a thing exist? I ran a google search that came up indecisive, with most of them being Gibson made and in very limited quantities.
16.
Fill it with bees so it doubles up as a honey dispenser. S.P.

Fill it with beads so it doubles up as maracas
17. Ive always wanted one but I dont have the quids. Je cri. GLWTS
18. Nice! Hopefully will now feel much much lighter
19. I think that silver one looks real nice. I dont think Ive ever seen them in that colour but man is it pretty.
20. looking good! a pound and a half(ish) lighter could make all the difference. Even more excited 😊
21.
Foxton used an Ibanez 2388B/DX neck-through, like this only black: You'll note it has Gibson style pickups - although they're both single-coil units, not humbuckers, so do tend to be quite bright. The same bass was also sold badged Greco, but you won't find too many in the UK. This model probably stopped production around 1974 or 5 - later ones were more accurate but far less cool, IMO. These are hard to find and sellers do tend to want high prices for them when they do turn up - even rough examples are unlikely to be less than £500. However there are plenty of different Fakers out there, and they come up for sale regularly. If you're not already a member, get on to the Rickenfakers FB group. All the basses we can't sell on BC turn up on there, and so far it's a John Hall-free zone. Fingers crossed...
Ive requested to join. Ive always wanted a bass like Foxtons (the man that made me buy a bass in the first place) but never had the cash to buy a real one.
22.
I have to say that I've seen the Rockinbetters and not been inclined to pick one up.
Ah right. Anyway, what Rickenfaker would people recommend? Looking for a 4001 copy that looks like (and at least sounds a little bit like) the one that Bruce Foxton used.
23. Wow... still, 10 oz is a step in the right direction. Even more excited now...
24.
made up my mind . its a shorty for him. and ill get myself the pb50. would have had the £40 jobbie but warrington is a bit of a trip.
Let us know how they are. Been eying up a PB50 myself from Harley Benton.
