I keep it achored on the E unless I'm playing on it, in which case I either rest my palm on the body of the bass or I sort of rest my wrist on the top edge of the basses body. I'm self taught though and have several 'bad' habits.

I reckon the presence of hundreds of screaming teenage girls pretty much defines who can be called a teen idol. And the Beatles had them in spades.

Or maybe somewhere between the two? I've decided to treat myself to a new PJ in January and these are pretty near the top of my list of potentials.

I'd have put the Stingray in before the Thunderbird. The T bird is a cult classic, but I'm not sure it was ever a game changer.

London Marylebone to Leamington is about 1h 30 minutes, then it's about 5 minute a in a taxi to Bass Direct.

Funnily enough I had my first go on a cello on boxing day. After getting my head round the tuning difference it was actually fairly easy to get a tune out of, finger style only of course, I reckon bowing is probably a whole art in itself. It's made me seriously consider trying a proper double bass, or at least a EUB, at some point in the near future.

After 25 odd years of playing bass and skinny string guitars, but never in front of my family, after an impromptu boxing day jam with various brother in law's and friends of the family(who to be fair have only been playing for a fraction of that time), it turns out that they're quite impressed with my skills.

I like your MIJ 50s Precisions a lot, but if was to choose one bass from your collection, based purely on aesthetics, I'd take the ASAT every time.

I'm going to risk what little cred I have by saying I quite like his most recent stuff. He's been responsible for some utter sh*te as well but I think underneath the teen idol image (which he apparently has come to loathe) is a better than average vocal and song writing talent. There's also Youtube evidence that he's a decent guitar player.

I seem to remember someone advertising 4 to 5 string conversion kits in guitar mags in the early 90s. Maybe someone still makes them? Not sure I see the point though. Back then 5s still weren't that common and they tended to be a lot more expensive than 4 strings of the same model. These days they're easily obtainable and normally only a fraction more than the equivalent 4 string.
