1. I'm a bit of a fan of M.I.A. and she's been quite prolific over the years, but I think this is her only big hit. http://youtu.be/7sei-eEjy4g
2. Build me up Buttercup is fairly well known over here, I personally don't know sky high but to be fair we live in different countries so it's not surprising that we have different one hit wonders.
3. I love jazzes, although my next bass is going to be a PJ. I reckon if you get an active jazz with a decent preamp and onboard EQ you can get pretty much any sound you like out of it. A P bass , active or passive doesn't have that versatility, purely in my opinion of course.
Embed fail again. Little help please?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z618ynL2U5s (remove the s from the https)
5. More Jazz/Hiphop/Neo Soul than funk, but Robert Glasper is playing Birmingham Town Hall on 20th November.
6. I'm hoping to get Snarky Puppy tickets, but I need to wait a couple of weeks for pay day and it's possible/likely that the face price tickets will sell out before then.
7. I had the pleasure of seeing Kamasi live recently. Patrice's vocals are even more stunning live. Her voice is perfect. I really hope she gets a solo album ( obviously with the West Coast Get Down) soon.
8. This is the one that introduced me to the genre. http://youtu.be/whi2fm2hzXg This as a much more recent favourite. http://youtu.be/U8NFS8WXfCI
9. This technical stuff is way over my head but there's a video about it here. http://www.gibson.com/News-Lifestyle/Gear-Tech/en-us/What-the-Heck-is-PLEK.aspx I was wrong about the neck not being attached to the body during the process.
10. As I understand the idea of Plek is to make all the frets completely uniform in terms of height. Which I think is how they are ideally supposed to be. I'm not even sure that the neck is on the guitar when they do it.
11. When it comes to technique and the ability to play in a lot of different styles there are a lot of much better guitarists. But in terms of pure emotion and doing the right thing for the song Gilmore is pretty much at the top of the premier league. I say that as someone who ,as a rule, doesn't really like long guitar solos.
12. Hammer on the roots with your left hand while cracking a whip with your right.
13. Awesome playing from Pino. From 80s pop to the Who to Neosoul and straight out Hip Hop, it's difficult to think of another bass player who's crossed genres the way he has. Meshell's pretty special too.
14. There's the Ibanez Mikro bass. https://www.gak.co.uk/en/ibanez-gsrm20-tr-mikro-bass-trans-red/128550?gclid=CjwKEAiAr4vBBRCG36e415-_l1wSJAAatjJZNPqJUgwhLONiSFz6N2SNAhy-iz97ryoRb7CZdaKLvhoC3Uzw_wcB It's 29ish inch scale though. From the description 'The Ibanez GSRM20-TR MiKro Bass is a great choice for people who are: a) Small b A child c) A small child.'
15. I'm not a huge Floyd aficionado, but this is one of my favourite songs of all time. http://youtu.be/JZkERB6dU_Y

That's the first non Telecaster or Les Paul shaped single cut that I've genuinely really liked the look of. Might buy a lottery ticket this weekend.
17.
Bass as a melodic and lead instrument is as valid as virtually any other instrument. It's people's narrow-mindedness that's the problem. People have preconceived ideas of what an instrument should, and shouldn't do.
I absolutely agree with that. In the example I posted it's not the fact the bass is the lead that's the problem, it's the insipid elevator music nature of the piece, which, considering the calibre of the musicians involved, makes it my least favourite cover version ever.
18. Bass as a lead/melodic instrument? Just because you can doesn't mean you should. http://youtu.be/7uLHrbKeHNU
19.
Are Gibson really discontinuing them?
I think they already have, but it'll only be temporary. They often drop stuff from their bass range, then reintroduce the same model or something very similar a of couple years later. There's no Thunderbird (as far as I know) in the 2016 catalogue, but next year, who knows?
20.
I wish everyone would stop the panic about Brexit. It is in Europe's interest as well as ours to do a good deal. Take the motor car industry for example. Mercedes Benz, BMW and VW have a vested interest in there being a good deal. VW in particular has more to loose than most. Not only are jobs in Germany under threat but also those at Seat in Spain and Skoda in the Czech Republic. As I understand it Volvo's biggest single market is the UK. That's Sweden as well. Apply the Dad's Army Principle. There are so many Private Frasers around saying "Wur doomed, doomed". But look, here's Corpral Jones; "Don't panic, don't panic. When you stuck you've got to show them the cold steel". In threatening a hard Brexit Theresa May might be seen as showing them the cold steel. When it comes down to it you know what Corpral Jones said about showing the cold steel. Indeed the pound dropping has actually benefited the UK economy. Our goods are now more competitive. Stop pinicing, that's what causes the problems.
So do you think the relatively large price rises in imported goods are strictly a temporary phenomenon, or that wages will quickly rise to match inflation so that in real terms we are not paying more? Personally, I'm probably a bit more Private Fraser in that respect.
21. I think a lot of the prices we're seeing now are 'old' stock, ie. stuff that retailers got in before the pound crashed, I reckon things will get even more expensive as they buy in more stuff. As an example some stores are selling some Yamaha BB1024xises for £733 whilst others, at the same store, are listed at £810, both prices are a fair whack more than what they cost this time last year. The latest MiM deluxe precision is already way more than I would have considered paying a year ago.
22.
I'd consider putting in on hold. Just my thoughts on it.
I've considered it, but if people are right about the pound finding it's natural level after being overvalued I think things will get worse before they get better. That and I'm really bad at delayed gratification.
23. I'm looking to make, what is for me, a fairly major bass purchase in January. It seems like every day I'm watching the prices of the basses I'm considering creep up.
