The end came when he couldn't physically play his parts on Use your Illusion because he was so out of it. At that point the band felt they had no choice but to move on without him. I know he's played with Izzy, Duff and Slash a couple of times since and he' played with G & R at least once in the last couple of years, although I don't know if that was before or after the mini classic line up reunion, so it sounds like whatever wounds there were have mostly healed.

Not an issue for me. My preferred Jazz bass tone is everything on full.

Not sure it counts as a hit record, and it's staggeringly obvious but I'd go for Dave Gilmour on Comfortably Numb every day of the week, it's just perfect for that song and I don't even generally like long guitar solos. http://youtu.be/pl9dc5FhFYU

I fitted a Babicz to my modded Squier Jazz. It looks great and it's a very clever piece of engineering, much easier and quicker than than average BBOT to adjust, and much more stable too. I can't say I've noticed any improvement in tone or sustain compared to the original bridge though. You can't adjust the string spacing, mind, but there's not that many after market bridges that have that facility, the obvious one being the Schaller 3d.

Monsters of Rock '92. Almighty, Thunder, Wasp, Skid Row, Slayer and Iron Maiden. In '93 I staryed going to Glastonbury every year for the next 6 or 7. Absolutely loved it, it opened my mind to all sorts of music I'd never really given a chance to.

OK, fair play, he gave an astonishing performance. I still think he should get an adult guitar. The 3/4 size one makes him look like a giant.

There's something utterly joyous about watching older performers/bands, who must know their golden age is over, going out and not only winning over that massive crowd but absolutely slaying it. Best Glasto set I've watched this year.

Chic are absolutely nailing it at Glasto. I'm watching it live (hopefully uninterrupted by presenters) on iplayer, but I think it's also on BBC2.

String degradation happens so slowly it can be almost unnoticeable, especially if you practice every day.

Off topic. Currently watching Katy Perry. As I suspected the band, and especially the bass player are world class.

It's a cycical thing. We get the same sort of articles over here every few years. I remember journalists claiming guitar music was dying in the 90s just before the Britpop explosion of the 90s, and again shortly before Artic Monkeys inspired a whole load of new guitar bands.
